i was treking with some pals today. They had the 'ashes' quest, the one where you go and collect that chicks ashes.

I had done this before and led them to where i had gotten it with a previous party. Right next to the Bloodfang quest, and next to Bloodfang himself.

All the way me and my mate were arguing, hes saying this isnt the way and me saying id done the quest and it was the way coz this is where i got the ashes.

so we bet 100gp on it (lol) coz it was getting heated. and i got there, and OMG they werent there. I just couldnt believe it.

this is where im sure i got them, right up on that altar thing next to the fire. Next to Bloodfang..

Now, what is going on. Is there another quest that finishes up there?? Ive done the ashes quest (Barradin doesnt offer it to me and only offers me Hammer and Anvil) and never been to the place my mate describes.

I noticed GW downloaded an update today, have they moved the ashes and cost me 100gp?!

She may have to be leader for the quest to spawn in the instance.

AH. so coz i was the party leader (which i was) and didnt have the quest (coz id done it), the alter and ashes didnt spawn?

Sounds a little buggy to me, but that does make a werid kinda sense.

It also sucks, but my team members arrows were pointing way off for thier ashes quest, no where near where i describe in that screenie.

They spoke of like a water portal or something, something ive never seen, to do the ashes quest.

Anyone collected the ashes from the spot in the screenie?

So that IS the place?

Im thinking now that today's update fixed ashes and COST ME 100GP!!

What happend was they had the altar spawn in the wrong place before (the place in your picture) and on top of that the arrow was pointing in the wrong direction. Its now fixed and is in the flame temple corridor me and my friend did it yesterday.

Hate to make this my first post here, guys, but I'm sorry to say that the arrow was right and you were wrong. If it makes you feel any better, I led my group to the same place, and they all told me I was wrong. :P So, I decided to trust them and let someone else lead. Sure enough, there's an entirely different area that you have to go to to find the ashes. That place is NOT the Charr Flame Temple.

The 'water portal' to which you refer is actually a portal that you have to run through a good stretch of tar to reach. Once you do that, you find a new area called the Charr Flame Temple, which is huge and is filled to the nines with the little beasties. My party had an incredible time getting through it (there's a bit of ruin with stairs on either side in one corner of the temple complex that we had an absolute blast defending from), and by the time we reached the altar where the ashes lay we were all at 60% death penalty, but we rushed the altar and our warrior grabbed the ashes right before he fell dead...again. Right behind the altar is the portal to Dragon's Gullet where all of the hydra are.

I'd post a link, but GWOnline.net has pretty strict policies about linking to other fansites, and I'll sheepishly admit that I've not read the forum rules yet, but I'd go try and find a detailed map of Ascalon. You'll better what I'm saying that way.

I'd just like to point out:

http://www.guildwars.com/news/gameupdates.html

On the Sunday, May 1 update there's

"Incorporate quest improvements to "Althea's Ashes" and "Regent Valley Defense""

-- so yes, they did change around the quest a bit to make the location of the ashes consistant with the description. If you did it before the update on Sunday, the ashes were in Diessa Lowlands by Garfazz Bloodfang. If you do the quest now, the ashes are located in the Flame Temple Corridor.

Heh, I can agree with the Flame Temple Corridor being a real bitch to get through. My party was also at the -60%. We got lucky though, died on the far side of the temple near the hydras and the res brought us to the otherside and immeadiate combat. It's interesting to get res'd only to die almost immeadiately because there are charr nice and close

I just did this quest with a guildy last night and I must say, it was one of the most frustrating quests (we too both got down to -60%), but then was one of the most satisfying when we came back after healing up (and were a tad more careful 2nd time around) and laid that entire zone to waste, leaving not one charr alive. Mmmmmm, sweet revenge.
