whats the check mean?

on the forum befor it it has a picture of like a hammer and stuff and i know what all that means because it says at the bottom but what does the black check over the picture mean?

A check mark means you've already posted in a "hot" thread.
Also notice if there is a empty document icon in the bottom-left corner (of a "normal" thread), it reflects the fact that you have yet to post in it, if the document has "lines" then you have posted in it.
