Ive played most classes in the game (pvp wise) and unlocked most skills for them.

I dont have ANY necro skills so ..

1. should i make a new character (necro) and start all over and unlock stuff along the way?

2. change my main chars (beat game) secondary to necro and do some quests?

3. use tons of factions points?

4. other? suggestions?

5. also what are some preferred secondary classes for necro?

In my experience, i made a monk farmer during the protective bond craze and unlocked everything that way.

Do you intend to use the unlocked skills for PvP or PvE? If you only plan on PvP, i would say unlocking through PvP is your best bet. You not only gain the experience playing a necro in PvP (which i assume you enjoy) but it is a guaranteed way of unlocking because of the fast faction gain.
PvE can be slower for unlocking, depending on how much time you have to play but you can also use that same character in PvP too, whereas a PvP char cannot step outside.

yes

no this is probably the slowest way to unlock especially if you dont have a PvE Monk or warrior that can solo farm. plus you probabaly did a majority of the skill quest already.

depends on where your pvp faction points comes from. Comp arena/team arena takes about 20-30 minutes to unlock one normal skill. Tombs isnt really great for faction. Gvg can be decent if your guild can win fast and has a decent rating to get higher faction.

I have my main account fully unlocked and I have a secondary account 90% unlocked. If you have already beaten the PvE game and know what to expect from the missions and quest you can easily rush A toon through the pve game and get about 60-70 out of 75 skills unlocked easily. (40 from quest, 20-25 from leveling, 15 from Missions)

If you have done the quests before and know what to expect they each take about 5-15 minutes to do with henchies. If you can get help from runners, friends, guildmates it can be even quicker to finish PvE.

my advice

rush your guy through the game. (get friends, guildmates, and runners to help you)
Try to get droks armor as soon as you can.
do all the skill quest from this list http://www.guildwiki.org/guildwars/i...p/Skill_Quests.
skip the longer missions if you can, the only real missions you need to do are sanctum cay, the 3 crystal desert missions, iron mines (Just for Infusion),thunderhead keep, and ring of fire missions if you want the elites.
If you need skill points you can go back for the skipped missions later.

get a runner to run you to these places in this order Ascalon City-> Piken Square-> Grendich CourtHouse ->Yaks Bend-> Ice Tooth Cave -> Beacons Perch ->Droknors Forge (Buy Armor head back to Becaon) -> Gates of kyrta -> Lions Arch -> Bergen ->Temple of the Ages-> Fisherman's haven-> Sanctum Cay-> Amoon Oasis
once you reach ammon go back and do skill quests and get some xp

if your sub level 10 you migth want to kill the level 12 Mergoyles outside the gates of kyrta to get to level 12 or so

try to get to level 15-16 before you try fighting you doppleganger I think you need about 90k xp to ascend directly to 20.

once you ascend to 20 just play normal try to set aside 15 skill points for Elites.

If you PvP a lot, I'd say do a mix of levling a PvE and Faction spending.

My situation is almost the same, so here's what I did. I started a PvE Necro who will work from the start and unlock things along the way.

After a night of PvP I spend the faction on Necro skills you won't find till Copperhammer Mines for example. Saving the elites for last incase your PvE reaches elites you could easily capture instead of blowing 3k faction on.

PvE a character is a great way to get start, you unlock most of the skills that way, I gain most my faction from GvG battles, can make upto 500+ with each battle lasting no more then 10 mins

If you are running with a good party then getting faction in Tombs can be pretty fast. Oftentimes, it is not hard for a good party in Tombs to get flawless victories on the first few maps of Tombs, which is 200 faction each plus the faction for each kill.

Hence I highly recommend unlocking skills that way, if you want the skills for PVP.

Back when i was soloing smite runs with my monk i used to get a skil point per run or so. I also did a lot of FoW quests and there you can get a couple of skill points per outing easily.
Well, to make it short, I have over 150 skill points on my Monk. When I want
to unlock skills for PvP characters I change the secondary on my Monk and go to Ember Light camp to purchase all the nessecery skills. For the Elites, I either unlock them with faction or get henchies and go out to cap them.

I find this way much much faster than starting a new PvE char and getting through the same story all over again. I did it 2 times and I think that's pretty close to my limit..

If you're a patient sort and can tolerate a hefty dose of PvE, it's definately the best way to go. If you do ALL the quests that give skills, buy all the cap sigs you need for elites up front, and then spend the leftover points on purchase only skills... you can get to the end of the game with only a dozen or so skills left to buy/unlock. That's what I did with all my PvE toons and now I only have a handful of skills left to unlock.

Of course if you prefer PvP... then the increased faction awards make that an option as well. Once you add it all up though... it would probably take longer to do it this way than to do it in PvE, unless you're in a high ranked guild that GvG's a lot and gives you a ton of faction.

I agree with the comments regarding unlocking skills via PvE questing. It's the cheapest, and easiest, IMO.

Faction is best used for item unlocks, which can be difficult or rare to unlock/find in PvE.

i didnt have any necro skills and not very many mesmer skills. i made a new character, rushed him through, did all the quests to get skills, and within a day had all skills for both classes unlocked.

thx for all the replies..nah i dont think ill go use faction points to unlock necro.. like i said i NEVER played a necro, not even 1 necro skill ive used... so i kinda gotta experiment my pvp build a little bit and play around with the skills. So i guess ill rush to droknars and get armor first :\
