I went to ToPK once and someone seriously asked for a activation code. You just can't get rid of them.
striderkaaru
we fight the good fight, ann. keep fighting it, no matter what the odds are.
Charcoal Ann
maybe Anet should just watch ToPk all the time for this. i can't help but feel that it doesn't just start when i am there.
EDIT: after watching the chat the advertiser seems to do it at totally equal intervals (45seconds) could they be using an advertbot?

i think i saw that exact same message last week in pre-searing. i took a screenie, but i never bothered to turn it in...
Ray
I think there's 3 different advertise bots, with the same message.
Definately bots =D

I was in TOPK the other day and said man I should sell my account on eBay. I was just joking around then next time a go to login I find out am suspended for 1 week. Some of the Nerdy ppl just need to back off and take a joke and not report everything they see and hear I mean common. Now the bot spamming yeah report it. I just ignore it I rather play the game then spend time trying to suck up to ANet for a hero badge damn. Lucky I have 5 accounts so I’m just playing on another account. /rant off

Yeah I saw this today. Lots of people said they were going to report it though.
Charcoal Ann
well. that bloke is reported too.
maybe they will get the idea soon.
and no i don't report people bantering about Ebay. why should i?
i would then be likely to report all swearing. i'd never be able to stop!
i watched this guy for like half an hour before the first report

I sure would love to know who did i even wrote a long letter to guildwars.com a pretty nasty one sence i was Rank 8 and have a very good rep with everyone. Man wish i knew who did that.
unienaule
Oh man, just because you're rank 8 means you can break rules? Sweet, I'm going to PvP now.

I've seen the same sort of thing, anybody play in the morning see the nugs guy? I reported that one each day i saw it, and i won't quit doing it.
Good to see others like me, I'm sure anet will continue to try fighting them as well... although i can see how repetitive it may get...
And, yes they're bots.

I saw them the other day both in pre searing, as well as post too. I wondered what the heck was going on.

How do you get it so you can spam so fast?

Play the game and let Anet worry about this. Not only are there too many of them, but most people don't buy this stuff. Or did you spend $50 to police a videogame? I sure as heck didn't and I am not going to waste my valuable gaming time doing something Anet employees get PAID to do.
Turn off local and go have fun in the game. Let someone else play gaming cop.

The atmosphere was a lot friendlier and a lot less flame pregnant. What do we have now? Get a group of 8 who don't speak to each other. They just accidently side along for a mission... they are like henchmen. Not saying a word, not reacting to anything. If you whisper them friendly you find yourself being on the ignorelist seconds after.
And it is getting worse each day...

Many people didn't buy this game to chat, so if they want to cut off their chat channels it's their right. I do it as well. I prefer to play mostly solo anyway and only group with guildies. I also report every situation I run into that appears to be bot spamming or advertises sales on ebay or anything that involves real money when I do have my chat channels open. So, if you don't want to be banned, don't even speak of such things even in jest, cause I will report it.
Rules are the same as laws to me, if you break them and you are a good citizen and see someone breaking them, it is your duty as a good citizen to report them dial 911 in real life situations and report ingame rule breaking to the proper authoroties when you see it. Take screen shots copy text, submit it and feel good about yourself for attempting to keep the game within the rules and limits that were created for it.
I was happy to read they are banning lots of accounts behind the scenes that are using bots and sweat factories. Good for A-Net at least they are concerned enough to do something unlike many other pay to play online mmorpgs out there. SOE just gave into it and now allows it on specific servers.

Why can't Anet just ban the domain 'virgoods.com' in chat? I think that would be an easy fix to the problem. Any time someone tries to send a message with 'virgoods.com' anywhere in it, the message will be blocked in a way similiar to when you spam messages too fast. That would be a simple way to stop those bots. Seems like a simple fix to me!

Keep reporting.
Each account banned means they have to buy another copy of guild wars.
See it as that the botters are subsidizing your playing.
