I like a Ele/Necro with attributes in ES, Blood, And Fire... It is easy to do damage and mantain your health at the same time, but just be whatever you enjoy playing! ^-^

Any proffesion is fine even a pure ele would work, so just choose what most attracts you.

The ele is kind of lacking in self heals, so monk would be good. Or, you could use mesmer to gain energy from your enemies and keep spamming your fire spells.

As far as secondaries go...

/mo = self heal ability and support for team
/nec = self heal with blood magic/or ability to raise undead/or ability to debuff
/war = some defensive stances that are pretty decent
/rang= some defensive stances really worth looking at/ ability to heal
/me = ability to steal energy from foes/or destroy foes with different anti casts!

there is the cookie cutter idea!

With my PvE fire el, I went mesmer for secondary. It helped with a bit of energy management and there's alot of helpful skills you can swap in and out depending on the area you're in, such as the mantras which can help stave off different damage types or counter interupts. I tend to use mes for my air spike pvp char also, for the benefits of interupt counter, although with the recent updates there seems to be fewer interupt builds around, and going with hex counters would be a better choice, something mesmer is also good at dealing with.

It sounds to me like you're just starting out in PvE, so it will be quite a while before you really need to think about any type of spike build. Many of the skills those builds use aren't available until late in the game. The basic idea behind any spike build is to do as much damage to a single target as possible in the shortest amount of time. Typically they are only used in PvP, but they can be viable in PvE, although with el's, area of effect spells work out much better in PvE generally.

Venus gave you the best advice anyone could. Play around with things a little bit, and find something you enjoy playing. Even if other people tell you you're nuts for playing something, if you can play it effectively, and you have fun with it, that's the most important thing.

With the new update, echo is, in my opinion, not as good as glyph of renewal. GoR means instant recharge, every 15 seconds - this means that you can continuously keep a group of ememies doing situps with meteor shower, something any fire ele should try to do Also, you are free to be E/whatever instead of E/Me if you go with GoR.

It works for fire storm too. And, my e/mo is my favorite characher EVER, and he solos griffons, hydras, and ice golems quite well.

If you want to spike like a machine gun, then you go Ele/R using a 10wilderness Survival Serpent's Quickness...

That's hot stuff...
