Some... concerns about GW.

Canada, eh?

Heh, now hear me out.

There was once an advertisment in PC Gamer, of Guild Wars.

It went along the lines of something like this,

"We believe that games should be played for fun, not for work. Thats why Guild Wars does not promote hours played, but simply skill and entertainment".

Alright, so the words weren't exactly like that, but thats how it went.

Now, I know the game has been out for.. what? Two days? Maybe a bit longer? But I am smart enough to know that there is something... odd about the whole thing.

Now don't get me wrong, I <beeping> love GW. If I wasn't writing this, I'd be playing it. Hell, I'm supposed to be doing homework right now.

But one thing does concern me. False advertising.

No fees? Well yeah! Thats awesome. I pay for a game.. and I get a game! I don't need to pay any stinkin' monthly fees.. *Grumble* Trying to sap me of my cash..

Thats one of the reasons why I love GW! It's free.. in a way.

And thats not just the tip of the ice berg, no - not only is it free, but it is fun!

Now, this is where the real meat of my post comes in. Unlike the advertisments.. and the features.. and faq, which states that a player who plays the game casually, and another who is a hardcore player, will basically be the same.

But, where, may I ask, are these steps aparent?

Well, there is one global server, so everyone plays, regardless of level. Thats good.

Adventuring with your pals, no matter what the level. Heck, thats good, too!

But what I am really worried about is the armour.

Why, NCSoft/ANet, why is there no level restrictions on armour? Sure, armour is hard to get and come by... and if there was level restrictions, everyone of a certain level would look the same...

But this causes an imbalance.. see... players who play the game hardcore-ly will earn more cash than the casual player, thus being able to get superior armour, thus kicking total ass in PvP.

I know it's a minor, whiney complaint... but this goes against advertising and disapoints me. Now, I hate WoW.. and I am against monthly fees... thats why I love GW.

I know the game isn't even a week old yet and I hope some of the issues with it gets fixed. (Seriously, did you *have* to put country names in the Hall of Heroes? Who's bright move was that?)

I really want this game to prosper... and I hope I didn't shell out more money for another 'Tribes Vengeance'. (Don't get me started..)

Thanks for your time,
Sid

I think because a LARGE majority plays PvE and not PvP, so therefore the advertising stays correct.

I just discovered PvP an hour ago. Until then, I leveled my W/R to lvl 8.

I am not a big PvP player, I'm just stating how hardcores can supress causuals. And how the armour should be fixed. :P

Yes, and to some that is a good thing.

But I think armour should have requirments beyond materials. For, ya know, balance issues and the like.

In a way, there is level restrictions on armor.
You cant buy armor to give to your lower-level character because when the crafter crafts it, the armor is automatically customized for YOU ONLY.
Also, you cant just give your lower-level character the ingredients(by which i mean scales or hide cloths) and the gold, because you can only buy armor that is available depending on how far you are in the quests, and the quest completion in dependant on your level.

There is no need for level restrictions on the armour because you level up so quickly. Play a bit more, you'll be level 20 before you know it and this will no longer be an issue...

Alright, alright - I now see where you all are going with this.

I take back my first post, because I, too have seen my noobish ways.
