I see classes but wheres races?
Joop
No races to choose from? that would be a big dissapointment
BlackArrow
The only playable race right now is human. In future expansions there might be other races, but that hasn't been decided yet.
What's so good about different races anyways?

Different races are teh cool!!
They could provide exclusive guilds, more towns, factions / grudges between each other, special race only abilities, more items, more customisation

Granted I am just now looking into Guild Wars after being on something of a RPG hiatus, but the added dimension of race gives people another avenue to make their characters unique. The last RPG I played was the beta of City of Heroes. One of the main things I liked about that game was the fact that even though you had a thousand people running around on any given server, not only did most everyone look pretty different, there where three major dimensions (Origin, Primary Archetype and Secondary Archetype) to make them behave slightly different.
Primary Archetype and Secondary Archetype determined which powers where available to you in exactly the same way that Primary and Secondary Professions determines which skills you can use in Guild Wars.
Origin determined which Enhancements you could use. Enhancements in Guild Wars could be something along the lines of magic items.
Adding another dimension to the character, like race, will make game balancing a little more difficult, but it will add to the richness of the game environment.
Like I said earlier, I just started looking into Guild Wars and look forward to joining in on the Beta event coming up.

I would think that races could be done strictly for making the character more unique and possibly aiding in quests/storyline. There would be no need to make them any different stat wise(despite peoples conceptions of dwarves, elves etc). This would cut down on the clone problem, but perhaps increase difficulties somewhere else...who can say?

If different races were ever to be implemented, that's how I'd like to see them done. The choice would be made based entirely on appearance, story, etc. No statistical differences at all.

the only thing i would think races could do bad is if you were in a dif. race than some of your guild mates than you would have a dif. story, so you couldnt go on pve missions with them
Loviatar
if any one bothered to notice Gaile mentioned the possibility of other races by saying we would be limited to humans in the first chapter

In the first chapter you will be able to play characters from the human race. In subsequent chapters of Guild Wars, you may be able to play members of other races.

i think most everyone knew about that...well at least i did, i was just stating i didnt think dif races would be the best thing :/

I have no argument against GW having different races at some point.... primarily because I am confident that the devs will do it justice. As a former player of CoH I can say that I didn't like the origin choice much. I thought it was a pointless way to distribute enhancement NPCs all over the place and make you go searching for them (this is City of Heroes not Heroquest) instead of having them in one conveniant location. It also made no difference for the first 10-15 levels or so....because you could use nothing but generic ones that applied to every origin.
The RPr in me would love to see more races, the gamer in me doesn't care.

Currently there is a "scale" adjustment. If they add others such as "Height", "Width", and "Thickness", there would be a lot more visual varity.
The current profession and skill combinations allow the characters to behave quite differently. Future expansions will only add to that.
If you are looking for "Racial Advantages", I hope to Never see that happen.
