Err=7 (new thread)
Irongate
Well, I used to get Err=7 and then Anet fixed the issue for a while. However, err=7's have been recurring at an enourtmous rate. Constant and completely annoying err=7's. I can't play this game with constant interrupts. What is it? Why can't you sort it out? Half of my guild have left to go on to other things, can you not fix this one thing to keep at least a few people here? I dunno. Maybe I should just move on too. Fun while it lasted Anet. Thanks.

Can we have some details?
I have this now and again, and its basicly because i have crap phonelines, not anet.

Based on my own experience I think that in most cases Err7 is the result of a crappy connection and/or crappy hardware on the part of the end user.
If your Internet disconnects, you're gonna get an Err7 for sure. Which goes to show that it is not exclusively a game problem.
I think many people like to scapegoat their disconnections on Err7 instead of taking responsibility for their own crappy connection/hardware.
That said, this is not always the case and it would be nice of there could be different error message signifying different things. Ie:
Err7 = it's definitely your connection's fault.
Err8 = it may have been your connection's fault, it may have been the game's fault, but the Guild Wars program could not determine which.
Err9 = it is definitely the game's fault.
Of course I do not know how techically difficult it would be to implement this.
All I know is it definitely would help in weeding out the scapegoaters from those for who the game itself is legitimately the culprit.

I have a rock solid, uninterrupted, cable connection. This is definitely an Anet problem and always has been. They know it and it is widely recognised if you do a search of these forums.
It just happened again. I really cant be bothered Anet. OK game and all but I think I've had just about enough.
Thx Nyway

I've experienced more and more sudden "leavers" in groups during the past weeks. And I am sure that most of these are crash and Err 7 related, as there was no reason for the leaver to leave. It is very annoying.
Numa Pompilius
Err=7 appears to be any kind of loss of connection. I also have a rock-solid broadband connection, and have had maybe 5 err=7's since April; I think server crashes caused every one (they were all preceded either by severe lag or by inability to map-travel/change district).
Shanaeri Rynale
I would say this is on the increase, certainly in EU. A few times loads of people have been disconnected at once, and since they all lived in different countries I doubt it's the ISP's fault.
EU is also getting lag issues again, usually around the times it actually has favor so it could well be a capacity issue. (Do away with favor and you spread/reduce the network/server load too - lol ).
From the network status page on the GW website it seems as AN were having ISP related issues with their provider. I suspect the rise in Err 7's is somehow linked to that.

The Euro servers seem to kick the most people, I often lose teammates in pvp (even when we're winning) just to have the person whisper me almost immediately with an apology because the server kicked him.

Personally I'm convinced the lag is indeed a capacity issue.
If ANet has switched ISP, I suspect that is where the err=7's are coming from.

I've never had an err=7...

I've had many err=7's, but most of them have been because Brighthouse in Orlando sucks. I lose connection to my 8Mbit cable at least 4x a day.
Last night was my first official game-related err=7 in over 700 hours of gameplay. I was going to Granite Citadel for the first time with my necro. Got to the door finally, walked in, instead of loading GC, it gave me an err=7. I was a little unhappy. I reloaded the game and saw that I was in Copperhammer again. Yeah, very unhappy, until I saw the icon for GC on my map.

I have never had an Err=7- I have a simple broadband.
A monk whose group I was in the other day blamed her frequent err=7s on the number of people on her server or whatever. No idea what she meant.

You know, your computer when connected to the game isn't directly connected through one line right into ArenaNet's servers. Any disconnections without proper rerouting beforehand within the path to those servers will cause an Error 7. Your connection and computer as well as ArenaNet's servers may be completely uninterruptable, but the chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
tastegw
id have to agree that it is not merly arenanets fault.
i have error sevened about 2 times since release of the game.
i have lost connection more times due to hurricanes putting out my connection than i have by error 7.

I feel that Err=7 should not be blamed on A.net at all.
I had it once in my 300+ hours of gameplay, and it was becuase my useless ISP cut me off... I moved to a better one now.
Needless to say it was the ISP fault, Err=7 basically means connections lost to the A.net server, so if you having it often, speak to your Internet service provider and have a go at them.

Shanaeri Rynale
I dont thnk anyone is blaming anyone, just trying to help pinpoint the nature of the fault. It cannot be a single ISP if multiple people in multiple countries get err 7's at exactly the same time for example.
Xanthar
Actually, it CAN be the fault of a single ISP even if the affected users are geographically dispersed. Allow me the use of an illustration...
Due to fixed routing, a situation such as this might easily occur. An Err=7 could be because of a failure anywhere in this (hypothetical) network. If it's at ANet, everyone will be affected. If it's at ISP1, you and Jonnny will be cut off. If it's ISP2, you alone will be shown the dreaded error dialogue. In neither case is the ISP you bought your line from that is directly at fault, but rather their partners.
Might be a bit redundant, but it'll explain why sometimes a lot of people get thrown out and it might actually be neither ANets fault nor the (direct) fault of your ISP...
Code:
ANet --> ISP1 --> ISP2 --> YourISP --> You | | v v ISP3 ISP4 --> ISP5 --> JohnnysISP --> Johnny | v ISP6 --> YourNeighboursISP --> YourNeighbour
Might be a bit redundant, but it'll explain why sometimes a lot of people get thrown out and it might actually be neither ANets fault nor the (direct) fault of your ISP...
Shanaeri Rynale
Sure nationally it's possible but i doubt it is even in different countries 1000's of miles apart??? The more people affected the closer it has to be to the servers.
Ashleigh McMahon
Mostly happens too me when loading " The Underworld" stage in the tombs.

I would download and run this utility from Anet:
ftp://ftp.guildwars.com/diag/netinfotool_allos_gw.exe
It's from this article on connection testing.
http://support.guildwars.com/cgi-bin...p?p_faqid=2856
Since the connection is mostly up, may not reveal too much but if you notice certain parts of the connection lagging higher then others or run it when you are getting the error 7.

I've been playing since beta back in January, and never had one.. until last weekend. The whole party got kicked from Dragon's Lair with Err=7.
My wife was playing right next to me on her account in a different area and was fine...
I think they're having server hiccups.

Im sorry but if you have a rock solid connection you wouldn't have any problems at all. I have had 2 Err7 since I got the game pre-order and all, and both where Server crashes later reported by Anet. Its either a shitty connection or shitty hardware in between period, stop puting blame on other people. Run a trace route or run the available tools and provide information on the cricumstances. Guild wars is a thin client the streams data, it dosn't take much of anything at all to interrupt a stream of data and boot you off the stream.
tuperwho
I've had one err=7 since I've had the game (3-4 mo's). It was definitely A'net's fault. I was playing and an update was posted, so I exited and tried to restart... err=7. Sure enough, it was the patch or servers or something, as GWguru's site even crashed from everyone trying to see what was wrong. When I finaly could get back on, everyone ingame said they had it too. Point being, there may be many causes, including at the NCsoft/A.net end.
EternalTempest
I've had the disconnect errors a lot after the initial SF release and downloading / lag connection but for the most part, rarely get the error myself any other time.
(Edit)
There still haveing some server trouble.

We are currently experiencing a service outage for those players in locations served by the Los Angeles Data Center. Investigation indicates that this is an external problem located on an Internet backbone. An estimated time for service resumption is not yet known. We will post more information as it becomes available. We apologize for this interruption. |

I get a lot of Err=7 lockups and think that the problem is within my ISP, but...
...when I get the error my connection is cut off for only one or two seconds. Why is it not possible to recover and jump back into a game session when the interrupt only lasts for a few moments?
Other online games accomplish that, so I´d say that ANet could do something about that issue...

I think at this point it's fair to say that A.Net can be blamed for at least some portion of these errors.

There still having the same network issue in LA server according to there status page. I've been very lucky and not experienced this issue.

It's ANet (or their ISP).
I run the netinfotool (thanks for that link) and there are some instances of 100% packet loss when going from ALTER.NET (Los Angeles) to plaync.com (West Coast). Traces to the East Coast servers choked also, through Level3.
I spent 2 hours testing on DSLReports too... nothing wrong with my 5Mbit connection.

Likewise, i have had no problems with my connection. Yesterday i suspected my ISP but their maintenance has finished already and i am still getting lots of err=7's.
Three PUG's and three disconnects.
Constant lag spikes in certain places, such as ring of fire and comp arenas too.

getting err 7s again here.. in uk, and nothing else is dc'ing. ack!
Sir Skullcrasher
I got error 7 from time to time. I got one when i was doing mission! And once when i was running around the map with henchies and it give me error 7. I guess Error 7 is random and that only certain people at different area is affected by this.
Ares_The_Immoral
I've also been having the same error 7. I keep getting cut for like 30 secs and sometimes it connects back to the game otherwise I'm disconnected and have to login again. I was thinking it may be my wireless connection or isp but I've been using them for over 3 years and not a single problem. I've only begun having problems after these updates. Note: I have a high-end computer.

I started a new thread on this and it got closed, so i'm pasting my previous post here:

I was playing with a tombs team earlier today. I did a couple of runs with on PUG, then they split. After waiting for a bit I got started with another decent PUG. We did one run and everything was fine. On our second run I got error 7 right after we killed the ghosts. I logged back on, apologised and they came back for me. On our next run guess what, error 7 even before we kill any ghosts. So I logged back on and sent a whisper saying sorry again. I then decided not to ruin any more teams and stopped playing for the day. The most annoying thing about error 7 is that it messes up teamplay in a big way. I don't mind as much if I lag out on a skill capping run or while I'm in an outpost, but I really hate letting my team down especially in tombs/UW/FoW. Luckily enough most of the people I've played with are understanding enough and let me back in the group. However I'm sure there's a limit to their patience and one day I'll develop a reputation for lagging out and be forever scorned from ever joining another group. I'm curious whether this is a problem confined to the Euro servers or a global problem. I've experience error 7 quite frequently especially in the past month or so. When I first bought the game it was not a problem. On whether or not it's my Internet connection that's to blame, my wireless network connection status says I've been connected for 4+ hours, and I was PvPing during this time. So there was no loss of connection. Also I've had error 7 before and TS/Vent stayed connected in spite of it. I'm quite curious to know how widespread this problem is so please post if you've been affected. EDIT: Can you also post which servers you play on and at what times you get error 7, just to get a general idea. |

Since the patch that came out the other day (the japenese support one) ive been getting these like crazy. Especially going from lornars pass to beacons perch I get them 9 out of 10 times. Its not my connection because it never did it before then it started right when the patch came.
Brother Andicus
I heard there were 4 err=7's in a high end GvG between Fnld and EP. That should give the issue a very high priority seeing as high end gvg is supposed to be the a top focus.

These seem to affect certain areas only. Last weekend I was tombing with a german ranger spike team and we were all lagging like crazy and were unable to synchronize the spikes.
Whenever we came up against american teams they didn't seem to have any lag issues which resulted in our team being owned by american iways more than once.
Also at one point we were in a 3 way halls match and during one big lag spike 2 people dropped off my team and 1 person dropped off of the holding team while the other attacking team, which was an american team, didn't complain about any lag.

two very weird errs i recieved
1 forming a tombs group (some poeple call it new uw or uw, but dont cause its not new, same place, and it gets confused with toa uw, call it tombs or topk, ty) when suddendly almost eveyone if not all were disconnected in a crash. wehn we all signed back on alot of people started complaining thtat tehy were kicked out of their guild(didnt happen to me) but holding down ctrl showed that about half of a full district were guildless. wonder if officers were reimburesd the 100g to invite them back?
2 reccently (and still yet not nearly as often) i have been disconnected from the frineds server. it makes you look like ur not online whne you are, and whne you hit n it makes you retype ur pw into your friends list. when this first started happening we were arranging a guild battle when i noticed this. i told them to relog to friends server so the other 3 that were offline did and then the guild battle started and all who reloged on friends were instantly kicked. needless to say wel ost that guildbattle outnumbered 8-4

If you say its my connection, then it should affect my other games as well.. which is not the case.. and its getting worse with each update..
Anet better resolve this issue or it has one less customer for factions.. not that they would care anyways right?
