yes they are serious. You do realize that why they all posted those numbers Factions hadn't even been released, let alone any Nightfall content. The post just before yours is a year old. Sure your dat file is bigger since you have more stuff installed that wasn't even available back then.

Mines weird....

Last week I un-installed GW and then reinstalled the cilent off the official site, I then ran the -image shortcut thing. My GW Dat file is 3.21 GB...

Think they said it should be around 2.7 GB, so I guess its fine, its probably just updated areas where ive previously visited.

Is something wrong with mine...? Because it shows as 4,906,927 KB, which is a LOT bigger than you guys'. I did -image.

Small question. File shows 4,906,927 KB, 4.67 GB, and 5,024,693,248 Bytes. Which one is the correct one, what are the differences about them, and how come they are different? I'm not a computer genius...

But anyways, I have a bigger file...lol.

They're all the same, the factor between levels is 1024 not 1000, so 1KB = 1024 bytes, etc.

Depending on how fragmented your dat file is it can be as big as 10gb with all three chapters fully loaded in it.

However with Prophecies, Factions and WPE of Nightfall I get a Dat of about
2.5 GB That's a fresh dat last day of WPE for Nightfall. I had to do that for my laptop that had to have a reinstall, and I copied the GW.dat over to my server afterward to replace the smaller one I had there.

You can decompress the DAT file if you want to but as far as I can tell it does not seem to improve load times anyway... As it is, it only takes a second to load any map in the game.

Dont be so quick to call people idiots, i have reformatted my PC a few times since ive been playing guildwars and defragged even more, but isntead of re-downloading the GW.dat file every time i reformat i copy it into disk and copy it back after, saves a lot of time.
