Theres a couple of ways...

1) If you are experienced and can use a hex editor and know how to create .reg files, you can do it yourself, this is however very risky and may not always work.

2) You can post here, or come onto irc.WorldGamers.Net ( #GuildWars ) and ask me niceley.

I have hex'd the GW.exe (will have to do it each time theres a new patch) and can now run 2 copies of guild wars, Im not putting the zip for manual download (IRC > DCC only) because of the risks and potential risks involved... I have a disclaimer in the read me should it appear on any websites but i use it, and the picture below should show that it works, I took it using a camera, instead of a Print Screen to prove theres no photo shopping trickery or anything...

If you would like to beable to do this, pop onto IRC, and ask me, I can also then offer help if you cant get it sorted.

What purpose would this serve if you only have one copy of the game?

And is this legal?

It only works on two seperate accounts. This allows you to swap items between accounts without jumping onto a different computer.

Yeah, let's see the desktop.

But, really, I'd rather not take a cracked .exe which potentially has a keylogger. I'd rather figure out a way to do this myself.

If only they would just allow us to buy more slots for our existing accounts. Cant see what the hold up is for making this happen. No unlocking of things all over again and they would still get the requisite amount of income they need per character file as relates to disk space. Just divide the cost of a new game by 4 and make each new character cost that. Who wouldnt pay $10 for another character slot as a one time fee? Works out to be the same as buying a second copy of the game, but infinitely better.

Besides, I think my PC would explode if I try to do something like this.

Aww. You're no fun. No cookie for you. But that's ok, since I'd buy 4 lol. Averages out.

the beauty of this is, I have 2 accounts, i want to run one account through the game using my main account,

I want to swap items between accounts...

And as for a potential key logger, sure, i understand, all i can offer is my personal assurance that it contains nothing like that, which is also the only reason i will only offer it via IRC and DCC, because if a website offers it for download, they could have modified it.. anyone is welcome to check the exe thierselves, ill even tell anyone who asks how i did it, (but not public)

you dont have to go thru any of that. just install it on a second windows account an you can run it twice simultaniously. you just have to switch accounts and viola...

Uh - how would you dupe gold using two different accounts just because they're running on one machine?

well the way i posted is 100% legal. if you 'dup' with it its not, but if you have 2 accounts and use them to trade w/each other its perfectly legal.

The method of running it on 2 user accounts is very long winded, and you cant run them simultaniously (at the exact same time) it takes alot to do it, registry edit this, change that, copy this... etc..

and what, if like me, you dont want loads more windows shit clogging shit up and its YOUR PC and no one else uses it, and you have it on one account and thats how you want it to stay?

And like you said, you gotta mess around switching between accounts, which takes a while.. i USED to use this method, and the only reason I did this little thing was so i diddnt have to mess around with a second account, i could just start them up, and BAM, its there...

But i guess its personal preference, and what you want....

and saying about duping... that doesnt stop shit, you could still do it with a friend, or a second computer.. or such like... (not that i have, not that i know how to or even that it was (still) possible)

Duping has to do with using the SAME account on one machine at the same time on multipule instances. this technique also works that way... and that's a problem... What I saying is this was something we discovered in Beta. I would just hate to see this happening in Live play now... It really hurts a Game when stuff starts getting duped. Like I said If you exploit it, you will get nailed. and the temptation to do so is very high. But if you use it for a legitimate purpose it is your choice. will not change the fact that if Anet catches you at it, it will be no different to you then if you did use it to dup items or gold... That's all I'm saying.

Though it seems innocent, the repercussions are too great...

But its not the same account, its 2 seperate accounts.. you cannot log into the same account at the same time with 2 instances, It logs you out of the first one if you even attempt to...

Ghozer is right, I've tried: you can't log in to one account twice.

You CAN run two instances of one account, by spoofing ID, but what you'll get is the exact same game in two instances, so that doesn't really allow duping either.

If one could dupe this way, you can bet people like our botter friends wouldn't be out farming, they'd be duping their heads off.

lol thats what I was afraid of getting out... lol though we beta and alpha testers prob know how it could be done. Its just NOT... for that simple reason... We dont want those people getting their grubby little hands on the technique. And I know Anet Doesnt want that knowledge out or used... so in anycase. thanks for the added assurance there...

No probs,

But just to re-iterate my intentions with this....

To provide a way of running 2 guild wars accounts, simultaniously, on the same machine, allowing a player to run thier other account through certain areas of the map, OR allowing trade between the accounts without relying on third party intervention..

IF aNet would make some form of storage deposite box where players can pay say, 100gp to place an item in the box, password it, give it a name, then the other player/account can go and pick up the item, using the password. they could also add an "acceptance cost" on it too, which would also help secure trading a little more. IF they did this, There would really be no need for running two at once, - you could ask a friend to run you through areas of the map (yeah, ok, you can do that any ways, but its just easier to do it yourself) but other than that, there would be no other reason to need 2 at once...

Just for you people like Ingram, In the zip that im willing to send people (remembring im not giving out an original Gw.exe file, AND im not giving out any keys (since its the key/packaging you pay for (as with ANY software)) So im not giving out warez) but inside this zip, is a disclaimer, advising people not to use it if they downloaded from a website etc, and only if they got it from me, because thats the only guarantee i can and will offer against any form of malicious code within the exe...

I will however, not do this, nor give it out should I be requested by ArenaNet/NCSoft etc.

I think it would be easier to manage the duo-accounts if you had two monitors connected to your PC. One Guild Wars window per screen =P

Nifty stuff by the way.

I had posted a risk-free way of doing it long back here
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...11&postcount=5

Though thats a very slow way, its assuredly 100% risk-free, legal and ethical. Using hex-editors is always a risk.

I have 2 monitors set up, But I put them on one for a few reasons.. 1) for the pic, because most people only have 1 monitor, just wanted to show 2, on 1.. and reason 2) havin them on 2 monitors, people may say "well, thats 2 pc's thats not really 2 on 1 pc" - etc..

But yes, 2 monitors works well...

Doesnt require 2 video cards, 99% of cards now come with Dual DVI or SVGA and 1 DVI, this allows the use of 2 monitors, on one card...

yes, it requires 2 accounts, but if your reading this thread you either have 2 accounts and want 2 copies running, or your thinking about getting a second account..
