I don't know much about the Ranger primary skills, but divine favor are good for what I'm thinking of. I'm trying to get a solo build that can do the following:

Use a pet as a tank
Heal the tank
Smite off the tank
Use range or staff to deal damage (most likely a smiting fire dmg staff)
Use leftover points to aide in divine favor.

Any suggestions/ideas? I'm thinking maybe getting a new pet every time I do this so that I can use things such as protective bond. It'd be like an invinci-pet build so to speak. After it levels up, toss it and get a new one.

But I've thought of a similar build that uses the pet as a tank. Basically you've got a level 1 pet that has really low hp. Put essence bond, life bond, life barrier on the pet and balths spirit on yourself. At this point you should be gaining 2 energy everytime your pet gets hit at the cost of having 0 energy regen. So pack Divine signet for some energy to cast Symbiotic bond which redirects another 50% damage the pet takes to yourself. Now you should be gaining 3 energy everytime your pet gets hit and the pet should only be taking 12.5% of the damage.

Its up to you how youre going to deal with the rest of the damage your pet takes and the damage that gets redirected to you and how youre actually going to kill the enemy (smite off the pet maybe?)

That doesn't sound bad at all.

16 Smiting using Draw Conditions + Zealot's Fire would be quite amusing to say the least...

Problem is you can't get your pet to attack first so getting aataxes or whatever to aggro your pet might be a problem.

as koren mentioned, the only problem would be ensuring that your pet has aggro. if even 1 gets by, you'll have to run around a little in order to try to get the aggro on your pet. if your pet is being attacked while you're running, it will die at such a low level.

just to let you know, i solo with my pet (not really soloing) around the desert area as a r/mo, and it works very effectively. i'm not sure how the extra healing from divine favor would factor in. i'm sure you can make it work, but it's just the problem of ensuring aggro on your pet.
