Smites run yeah?

This is a little rant about my recent uw trips.
I play on euro server and always go in uw in a trapper team.
And every single time there's someone asking "smites run ok?" "are we doing smites?"

And yes, I usually start my uw trips with smites, then i clear the forgottens vale and take the spider quest, if anybody wanna charm it. When the vale is cleared, if we are still 4-5 at least, I go behemots and chaos plains.
But there is always someone leaving just after the smites.

My question is: why people are so smites-obsessed? Their drops really sucks, and in about 40 uw trips I have seen a lot more ectos dropped from Aatxes or Mindblades.

And people dont realize that the terrorwebs have a higher chance to drop good items, so nobody want to take the restore monuments quest "because it's pointless"

The chest-point is stupid, because usually there is one chest per area (sometimes 2 in an area and 0 in another), and the vale- and mesmer-chest are a lot easier to reach.

I just cannot see the reason wich people love so much smites for.

because they glow in the dark.

well i personally never have time to do a 'real' UW wacking session. not that i like smites. i hate them. they remind me of those bloody jade scarabs and are THE most annoying creature type in the game.
the only good thing about them is the sense of superiority they lend the warriors when they stand in the middle of a writhing mass of hundreds of smite crawlers.

What you're saying is not correct. Smites have great drops, along with many other monsters in the uw, of course: what makes them better is that they're easy to kill with the right setup. This means you can kill MANY smites in a SHORT amount of time, with a LITTLE grp. The ratio hours spent/items farmed is better than in any other place in the game. That's why people are so smites obsessed.

I agree with you on the point that after a while smites runs do get boring. Cleaning the underworld, though, can't be done with a small grp.
