I really got caught up in the pre-order spirit of guildwars, as well as the collector's edition. I was wondering how well to the pre-order items hold up to the weapons now in guildwars. Out of the 7 unique key unlocks (pre-order items + collector's divine aura) I only have 2 missing (War Pick - Gamestop / Chermic Prism - Europe Pre-order).
The pre-orders items themselves can't be used at full potential at start due to there minimum requirements until latter in the game to meet the pre-req's. Not only that, they were altered due to be too powerful early on.

Before they came out, there were pre-order kits that allowed you to play in the monthly beta events (aka play the current game for a weekend a month as they were finishing it). There were 5 vender's that if you got the pre-order kit from them, use the pre-order key in your full account would give you there unique item. The sixth item was a "generic" pre-order that everyone else had.
You can add as many pre-order keys to your account and get access to all the items if you have the correct keys. Get the EB pre kit and get the EB unique pre-order item added to your account.
You can ebay and still get some of the pre-order items dirt cheap (you're buying the kit) for cheap. Do a search for "guild wars pre-order" or "guild wars preorder" on ebay.
When you created a new character, you start with all your pre-order items in your inventory or do the /preorder command to add them back at any time. You can't sell or trade these items.

I'm actually using the Carthan Targe with my axe warrior. I have max armor and a +5 armor haft so the loss of 2 AL with the shield not being a max 16 is no big loss, but the +30 health is very nice.

I still like my ithas bow appearing on every build I make. Its a decent puller... I'm not too fond of EBgames for other reasons pertaining to the preorder, but all in all the bonus item is nice to have. I'm anxious to see if they offer another bonus item for Chapter two preorder. I will DEFINATLY not get it from EBGAMES... no matter what it is though.
BTW: on my first Ranger build I used my Ithas bow, with 2 upgrades for approximately 2/3s the game. Then I got a max dmg collectors Acalon bow (Long bow) and put 2 more Hale / fortitude upgrades on it. But the ithas bow lasted me well. and I personally found it GREAT in presearing, even with the requirements...

As soon as I could I used the chimeric prism on my Warrior/ele (The Snowman) saved me loads of money on looking for a 16 armour sheilds, and gives a valuble 5 energy which I use in combination with a zealous sword.
Cant use it for hammer guy tho, and any ranger with bow cant use it or anyone with two handed stuff.
So I think the chimeric prism was always going to be utterly useless to most people from the start, and looking at the rest, they all look like they only have specific uses also.
I do have a question on the Prism that has been bugging me for ages though..
Does the Chimeric prism armour bonus 'act' as sheild armour for purposes of melee and positioning?
I read that a sheild only gives you bonus for attacks in front of you, so if you strafe around a warrior he doesnt have the armour... is that the same for the prism.. or any armour giving item really?
As for the 'Divine Aura'... well this to me makes the collectors edition worth every single damn penny!!... Its not often you see the aura these days, and these people are becoming more rare every time someone buys a copy of GW.. in a few years time they will be ultra rare!.... and forever people will ask me "how do you do that?"...muahahaha

Yes, you can dye them. I dyed the hammer. And I still use the hammer for my PvE character. For PvP, every point of damage you can muster as a warrior is critical. Therefore, the preorder hammer, at 2 less damage than max has to be put aside.

my lvl 15 healer is currently using chimeric prism. She has 9 div favour, so she gets +8 energy and +5 armour. I'm sure later on I'll find something nicer, but so far nothing has come close.

I actually use my Canthan Targe. IMO with my farming build, the +2 energy and +30 health are much better than anything any other shield in the game can offer me. The 14 armor instead of 16 is offset by my +5 on my sword.

I have the chimeric prism. And it's not that useful, i used to use it with my monk but with a staff you can get +10 armor and you'll have more energy.
(btw, it's +8 armor req 8 divine favor, not +5).
It's only really usefull for very specific build *cough* Wa/El w/ Gale *cough*
edit: btw, i don't know if you have this bug too but i can't use the preorder with any fresh pvp char. I have to "/preorder" them before putting them in the character slot.

Unfortunately for some the divine aura never worked on their accounts despite having the CE, furthermore tech has seemed unable, and disinclined to find an answer to the problem. This is the only problem I've had with tech, in all other matters they have been extremely helpful.

Actually I think the shield isnt that great. The tactics req is high and it's not even max armor. There are better max armor shields out there with a much lower requirement that give you +30 health (and no str req either) plus another mod such as a useful blind reduction mod.
But I guess some people think all that is worth a +2 energy gain.

On top of that, you can get +30 always (not just when in stance), so the targe is really not a bad item. Not max armor, but still a good shield for the right situation.

If you're really desperate for energy, you're better off with a focus that provides some armor.

And you can't preorder something from a game that is already out.
Search Ebay, and you might find some unused Preorder CDs keys, thats the only way you'll get one.

the chimeric prism came with the Collectors Edition which was a limited edition pre-order version. there are no more available unless you find one on ebay which will almost certainly be very overpriced
