Deten

As the title says, what are the characteristics of the different colors. I believe theres only Purple, Yellow and Blue...
Tell me everything you know about each one.
Thanks

I know blue is your kinda standard magic items. Just a step above the fodder stuff. Purple...I just got a very nice purple text staff tonight. Has like 4 or 5 things on it. Unlike most blue ones which have 1-2 stat plusses.
So purple I guess is sorta rare magical. Not sure about yellow.

I guess they each have some complex ingredients to each. Purple and Yellow are definitely better finds/drops (more rare than blue) whereas blue is just a smidge above regular drops when it comes to their magical properties.
Purple and Yellow *unlock* better items for your toon to use and also for your PvP character to use when going to battle.

If memory serves me well, blue is an unidentified/identifies item, purple is a rare drop, yellow means highly salvageable I think.
Soul Monarch
Er... think Diablo 2-esque.
White: Normal
Blue: Uncommon
Purple: Rare
Yellow: Ultra-Rare
Items are all random, but usually it goes in that order for quality of the properties as well. (Although my first Purple Drop was utter crap. I've had better blues. )

purple is unlockable and gold (yellow) is a rare item
Erod
I do appologize for saying you all are wrong, but you are.
White is a normal item.
Blue is a magical item, with common attributes such as;
-Precious (sells for more gold)
-Highly Salvageable (get anywhere from 2-3x ammount of salvage materials)
and other attributes still found on blues, even rune salvaging, Attributes +1 ect
Purple is an *im not sure what to call it* item but always gives somthing to Unlock/Salvage (rune/upgrade mat)
Yellow/Gold Is a Rare item *says "a rare war axe dropped"*
These are generally awsome items, Major runes come from these babys, nice weapons, these are the sought after "gosuness" of Guild wars.

To clarify, are you guys talking about the text color or the actual item's color?

The text color I can see the misinturpritation.. but honestly.. when have you ever seen a purple battle axe? I mean.. come on?

Someone mentioned orange and red items. Is this true? If so where do they fall in the list...
Erod
I think orange could be derived from the yellow (misinterpritation of color) differant gamma settings, ect.
But red? No idea. Cannot prove or disprove.

Okay let us make this even clearer, when looking at an item’s text if the color is: White is common, Blue is an item that is unidentified or has been identified and has magical attributes attached to it. Purple is an item that is highly salvageable meaning it will give you a rune/weapon upgrade component. Yellow is a rare item.

I'd love to see a screenie of a red item.

I've heard several different people claim to have seen a red item. I haven't myself, but I believe them at this point.
Gold items aren't that great, I have a gold Truncheon, the damage is like 1 point better than other ones it's level, and it's only mod is 11% chance to increase cast speed, which seems to double cast speed when it goes off.

Here is an example of a purple item if anyone is curious....
BTW when I found it and identified it I got 2 unlock messages....
Item Unlocked: Insightful Staff head
Item Unlocked: Staff Wrapping of Warding

Yeah, who didn't see it coming? But it still had to be done.

I'm color blind, and confuse blue and purple VERY easily. This sucks
Zaklex
It's not red people, the four colors(white doesn't count) are:
Blue
Purple
Yellow
Orange/Gold(which can be mistaken for Red under the right circumstances, adjust your color settings properly)

purple doesn't ALWAYS unlock something. both my bf and i found purple salvagable item drops while killing charr, and when we used the expert kit on them - it just gave us 2 raw cloths. -_-;;
DeadEnder
I thought I had a cool salvageable in a purple armor from a semi nasty Charr. I ended up with 2 raw cloths. Did I do something wrong?
Harvey Blade
Did you ID it first? You've never got a 100% chance of getting the unlocked items out of a salvage item, but I think you've got to ID it to have any chance at all.
Dyeeo
Hmm I found 3 items, 2 are purple and one is yellow. They are all salvage items from silverpeak. That means I cant really do anything with them. Just identifying all three of them gave me three runes. Now what should I do? Just salvage all three?
Weezer_Blue
White = Normal Item. Nothing Special
Blue = Something special about it. Use ID kit to see what it is.
If you get a blue piece of enemy armour (like an Ettin's Pauldron or something like that), make sure you ID it. If when you ID it, it unlocks an item for your PvP characters are says "blah blah of Smiting Prayers +1", then make sure to use an expert salvage kit on it (may also say "Fiery bow" or "bow of defense" and so on.)
... Mods like "+11% vs hexed foes" can't be salvaged. Either sell it, use it, or salvage it for raw materials.
As for Yellow and Purple... I'm not really sure. Something about their rarity.

Going to resurrect an old thread for two reasons--to answer a question in it and to put a new question out there.
First, you are never guaranteed of salvaging a rune/weapon mod from an item, even if you unlocked it. Unlocking only means that you will have that item available for a pre-made PvP character. Salvage Kits give you a certain percentage chance to salvage the rune, and Expert Salvage Kits give you a higher chance.
Second, I never saw this before the last update (May 11) but I've seen it a few times now. I will get a purple drop and when I go to ID the item, there is nothing special about it. No magical (or other) modifiers at all. In my mind, this is tied somehow to the fact that the last update included a "balancing" of rare items (i.e. nerfing riverside, drakes, underworld and increasing rare drops in explorable areas). I haven't tried salvaging any of them yet because they had no modifiers or anything that I wanted, and I didn't need the crafting materials that they would have provided. Would this be a bug, or is it pretty common. Like I said, I never saw it before the update but I see it now.

Ya, I had a staff like that. It did have requirements though, something like 5 domination I think. It was crappy, I salvaged it with an expert kit and got 2 bones. No big loss really.
TheUncleanOne
I've had one or 2 purple items with no mods/unlocks.. but generally I get upto one unlock from a blue, and upto 2 unlocks from a purple... I haven't seen enough yellow/gold to know what these are like... And as previously stated, use an Expert Kit for your best possible salvage (which still isn't 100%).
Bandin
Mind showing us the difference between a Yellow and an Orange/Gold?
Jade
There is no difference, when people say yellow they should be saying gold.
