Anyone know where to get this Godly (Trapper) staff?

One of my guild member has this staff(trapper of course) and he say he got it from a quest reward but doesn't remember which one before Yak Bend is all he remember.

Smiting staff
+4 energy
3-4dmg(req 4 smit)
+3 energy(^hp80%)
+3 energy(^hp60%)
+3 energy(^hp40%)
= +13 energy
Then u can add insightful(+5)
=+18 energy

Great 4 Trapper with 16WS and 15 Expertise

So has anyone else seen this staff as a reward and can tell me what quest do i have to do to get it or has it been nerf?

i think i got this staff off a quest in piken sqaure not sure though but give it a try

heh... i used to use that staff for trapping... until i found a better weapon combo

What could be better? At most you could get +5 from a primary(best being an HoD sword) and +12 from an ofhand; but that offhad will be hampered by the lack of req, which will net you a whopping 3 energy from that offhand. The highest unreq'd offhand I've seen was a 7 energy, and I'm not 100% on that, so that would get you up to only 12 energy total. The modded staff would give between 9 and 18; and you'd have to be hurting to only get 9.

Anything better that I can think of offhand would have an energy degen, which is just what you don't want when trapping. But if you've a great setup we'd all love to hear it.

no... i can't tell... it's my uber 1337 trapping build... i swore an oath to nevah evah tell... if they find out i told someone... they'll kill me! omgz... i've said too much already... i must go :P

hmm... do anyone know the name of the quest cause i try all the piken square quests and i didnt get the staff. the only close reward with the same stat was "The Siege of Piken Square" but it mod with air magic. So did they nerf that staff?

plus Daegul Mistweaver rite the max energy can only be gotten through a staff without any req cause most trapper would put max into WS(16) and expertise(15) with only 6 attribute left.

With that much in expertise then energy should never be a problem anyways. Usually with 4 traps I am waiting for the traps to recharge before I run out of energy, and that is with serpant's quickness.

Not to mention that you can get collectors stuff that gives a lot of energy (with the neg recharge rate) but I don't even have to switch with 14 in it. Actually 14 is the best break off spot. As it only saves a point of energy each on Dust (10 energy at 15; 11 energy at 14) and Barbed (5 @ 15 7@ 14) when you have 15 versus 14 in expertise.

Did some checking and I do believe that quest reward has been changed. Although, now that I rememer it, I'm pretty sure those +3s were for decreasing health...so you'd only get the full extra +9 if you were below 80%.

If not someone grab a screenshot.

I had the same staff except it was req 3 domination but still called a smiting staff. For the longest time I couldn't sell it off so I just dumped it off to a merchant.

What might be a little easier, though not quite as good as the staff, unless you find a wand which also has +energy:

There is a collector you encounter as you go from Frontier Gate to Serenity Temple (or are doing the Frontier Gate Fugitives quest) who gives you a healing ankh +6e (req healing) and +15e unconditionally (along with -1 energy regen). You will obviously not get the first +6e, but you can get the +15. The collector takes 5 (stormy?) eyes, which you get off those floating jellyfish mesmer guys.

Problem with that is that, with trapping, you need the regen more than you need the extra energy. So you're better off with an unreq'd offhander that has 6 or so energy and a HoD sword/wand with 5.

I've noticed that items with very low reqs will give more energy for not meeting the req than items with higher req will. For example, a focus with req 3 and 8 energy will give you 6 if you have nothign in that req, but a req 8 with 10 will only give you 3 energy. Still messing with this idea, will have to see what happens with req 2s and 1s.

why not just take any max staff?

the req on a staff is just for the damage it does. as far as i know, the +10 to energy has no req. add in a max insightful staff head, and that's +15 unconditional energy. it may not be the +18 you want, but it's a lot easier than trying to look for that staff.

this is what i do when i go trapping.

I can confirm that it's still available as of today (Oct. 22/05) - just picked one up as a quest reward in Ascalon City.

Which quest? I don't recall seeing it as one of Captain Ame's rewards when I checked him with my w/n; maybe it varies by class?

yeh i also got the staff yesterday, only saw it today though -_- im not totally sure but think it might be fires in the east...if not then i dont know
