Item linking in chat windows
Tailon
Other online rpg's I've played, have this neat feature that allows you to drag an item into your chat window. A link captioned with the item name will then appear in the chat window, which anyone can click on to get a dialog with the item stats in it.
I think this would be a pretty nice feature for GW too, since it would allow people to see other peoples items without having to use the trade function.
It would also make trading a bit easier, since people would know which stats the items have without having to whisper to get additional information, and because you don't need to include the stats in your WTS message (hence you can fit more items in one go).
What do you all think?

This would make trade spam unbearable. If you really want to trade, use out of game sites that are well known such as guildwars guru's ventari's sell or rpgtraders.com

Also, this is not just to simplify trading, but to simplify showing/looking at items. It may be a semi-useless feature, but it's one I would want to see in GW.

Yeah, this would help. If people are even mildly interested they can see the exact stats of an item without having to PM the seller and stuff, which gets annoying..

I know from my experience playing "another" MMORP that item linking would help to greatly reduce the trade SPAM in the local channel. If Anet were to implement item linking in every channel "Except" the local channel then people will start using the trade channel for selling and buying items simply because of the convenience. Restoring the local channel to it's originally intended function of serving general chatter information to the district.

This would definitely help decrease spam. Instead of typing two lines of to list all the details of an item, you only deal with the name of the item. Would clean up chat a lot.

Wow I'm really falling in love with what Syphon added. Definitely getting on Santa's good list this x-mas.

If item linked to Local channel in an outpost or a city, redirect the message into Trade channel, no matter what words are around the link.
If linked onto Local in Guild Hall/PvP areas, then link it to Local-channel normally.
Might actually help a bit on the trade spam since it forces those messages into trade more efficiently.

Also let us do the same thing with our skill bars while we're at it. You could use this feature to show the stats of the weapon you're wielding in battle aswell as what armor + runes.

While we are stealing ideas from WOW why dont we also get a 'dressing room' for our charaters too, by ctrl cliking the item in the bar, it shows you (in a little box) wearing it.

Anarchy Online, which predates WoW by some 3 years, has item linking as well

I was pleased when Everquest added item linking (oh, about 4 years ago). I'd love to see it in GW now. I think the only trouble with it would be the fact that GW items are so diverse due to mods of different values. I think it might not be feasible due to extra server and bandwidth usage just to lookup your items every time you sent a message.
