The chat filter should filter urls as well.

for example, a fan site like guildwarsguru.com would be on the allow list while some hacking or botting site will be blocked and replaced with the words "-Url blocked-"

The allow list could be everything on the fansites list and known "good" (as in non-malicious) urls like google.com

Or you could use common sense and not go to a site you've never heard of...

I think this falls under the "buyer beware" category.

It may sound mean, but anyone that falls for "download godmode at ihaxoryou.com" clearly either has 1) no common sense or 2) needs to learn that the internet is a dangerous place. Some people need to make mistakes to learn a lesson.

Besides, I think a "safe url" filter is completely unreasonable to expect of a game company. How many urls do you expect them to keep in a database for no reason other than to protect people from their own stupidity (or ignorance)? I mean, really, theres millions upon millions of websites out there that are free of malicious content, not counting the thousands of domains being created every day.

What about when a malicious webmaster starts off with a "good" website and gets onto the "safe list", only to switch content for a few hours, get a few suckers, and switch back?

lol. I thought it was worth posting. You have a chat filter ingame. It doesn't filter anything that is actually harmful to people over 18. WOW Cursing!

On the other hand, you wouldn't believe the amount of people that are dumb enough to get their paypal scammed and stuff like that. This goes for Ebaying gold too. You can have it block ebay sites and gold buying sites.

Just because someone is (lets say hypothetically) 50, doesn't meanthey know enoguh about the internet not to fall for scams and trojan horse viruses.

Warning: The Internet may be hazardous to your health. Consult your doctor before using. Do not use if you suffer from stupidity.

You can't seriously expect Anet to evaluate the contents of the entire internet and make a comprehensive blocklist to be used in game. There are companies who are dedicated to doing such things and they still are an utter failure at it. It's a huge waste of time and resources.

I like the idea of a new filter for URLs, it's just not feasible to make a database of safe-sites. So to have a filter for ALL URLs I agree, but to expect Anet to do what others have tried and failed but faster and with a smaller workforce is just naive...

better idea:
Track down the web criminals and sue their RED ENGINE GORED ass?
Sure, things like this can be reportered. But there needs to be actual actions taken against web-criminals!

Yeah and block advertisement of guild's web and forum sites so they can't tell members... and who controls the "known" list?

Bad idea from someone who obviously has no idea about the internet that much....

They didn't implement it in 2005 when this thread was made, and I don't think they'll implement it now.

People have obviously shown themselves to have an iota of common sense and therefore the thread has proved itself unnecessary.
