If this is possible without server overloading:
-When friend is added, notify person added/removed
-Friend channel for chat with a chat limit of 1 message every 5 seconds.
-Notes next to person added for where they were added , optional user-inputted notes like "why they were added"
-More activities for friends, like guilds can form alliances if friends are in them.
-Borrow weapon system --> let your friend borrow an uncustomized weapon for a specified amount of time.
Currently, it is more like a "monitor when this person logs on list"

More stuff you could add: Nicknames/proper names
I hate how the first name you added will be the name you remember, regardless if the person deleted that character. A way to rename a friend with a nickname or real name while their current character name in parentheses would really help, especially since people change characters often, the nickname/proper name would never change.

Personally I'm a bit of a hermit, and sometimes I don't want people to know where I am. Actually I'd like it if it didn't show when I'm online as a different character. If there was a two-tier friend status or something, that'd be nice (and maybe a little insulting to some of your friends
).
But I definately approve of having "friend notes" because I have a long list of friends and cannot remember when or why I added many of them. Before I started cleaning house there were friends on my list I met only once way back in Ascalon with my first character who has now finished the game. Also, it's embarrassing when someone on your list contacts you after a long time and you cannot remember who they are. "I don't mean to offend you, but how do I know you again?"

especially the notes idea is good. people take so weird names in guildwars, it's hard to remember who is who ^^.
... another nice thing would be a new status (like busy, online, etc.) called "looking for toombsgroup" or something, so you could see at one glance who in your friendlist is available for pvp.

what about another program that allows you to acces your friends list out of game, like say if for some reason you didnt want to go through the process of logging in the client thing, there was a different program that allowed you to talk and see who is online within your friends, not to actually bring up the GW client and go through the loading etc but to log on with a different program like msn for GW... is that possible??

Anything to make the friends list more friendly would be appreciated. Maybe something that would display some of their other charcters? I hate it when someone whispers me, and I have no idea who they are and they're not on my friends list, but they somehow know me, and they're on a different character, so I have no idea who I'm talking to...

Wouldn't really have any privacy if you did that. I mean, what if you and a friend got in a fight or something and you just wanted to ignore them? They don't need to know where you are. Which that's another idea, about the ignore thing - why not make it so that if you're ignoring someone they just appear offline to you? Then it's not so annoying that you try to message them and it says So and so is ignoring you.
