-50 hp offhand
Kyle
I saw a guy yesterday saying that they nerfed this item in the recent patch. I have characters that have beaten game so i can not go back and check nor do i want to delete one of my chars to find this doesnt exist any more. Is this true or was this guy trying to scam someone out of 90k as he was selling it. Just wondering
Thanks for your help
Thanks for your help
Hockster
He was trying to scam you. They have not been nerfed.
Kool Pajamas
I'm pretty sure it has been taken out. I think it was originally in the cities of ascalon quest, but now you get 2 Ele focus items instead that give +energy. No -hp.
But I could be wrong about that.

Not sure....
I bought mine for 8k just because im so impaitent. I didnt wanna waste my time with the quest.
It would be nice if someone could verify here if they have been removed....
It would make the purchase worth it.
Thanks,
Jodie

I just did the quest 5 minutes ago and the -50 item is still the reward.
If you don't know, don't post.
And at 8K, you were ripped off.

Is it the cities of ascalon quest? Because mine doesnt give that reward I checked.
It gives 2 +6 energy focus items.
If it is a different quest could you tell what quest it is?

It is the cities of ascalon quest, its the +6 blood magic focus.
Kool Pajamas
oh, so it just doesnt list the -hp part in the quest description?
BeatWolf
I sold one of these for 20k
Fyre Brand
The reward is from the 'Cities of Ascalon' quest and it is clearly labeled.
I won't say it's worth 1k, 8k, or 50k absolutely, because, honestly item economics in this game makes little sense to me. I would say it's probably worth between 5k and 10k. My twisted logic arrives at it in this fashion using these factors:
1. The quest is long drawn out and fairly a pain in the ass.
2. A person has four chances to get it for themselves before they go and buy it.
3. It's used by people farming goods to sell at really insane prices. 5 - 10k is nothing in a days work for that build.
4. If it isn't worth that much I will probably just sell it to the merchant and move on to hunting and not dallying over a few hundred gold.
Anyway, here is a pic for that guy who doesn't think it's still part of the quest. This is after the SF update. I got this about a week ago.

My friend sold one to some sucker for 90K! I was laughin so he loaned me some money to get my monk up and running, using the 55 build you make more than 10K in one day.

yeah uh...
Like I said, im a lazy bastard. I dont waste time with noob quests. In fact, the first missions my characters do, are the desert missions. 8k? Nothing to me....
What really makes me angry, is when someone feels they need to critique me on the things I do.
And trust me buddy, I do *know*. If you read some of my other posts on these forums you may even learn something, hell...
I wasnt asking how or where the item could be attained. In fact, I really dont want your price check for it either. Simply, all I wanted to know was if it was still possible to get.
Back when I bought it the guy(or girl) selling it said c/o was 5k, so instead of bargaining with him, I simply made him an offer he wouldnt refuse.
Thanks for the informative posts on this subject, I really appreciated it.
Ill never return to this thread to see the flame responses this may receive, so dont bother, your comments arent appreciated.
-Jodie
P.s. Fyre Brand, thanks for the info. But one correction, us who are fortunate enough to have 2 accounts, get 8 of them(even though ill never bother to).

I remember getting that focus like the second day I played and saying it sucked..selling it to merchant..and now about to kill myself if I could have sold it for a few plat...
Chreelister
My buddy and I, just got one for doing the symon quest mentioned above and this was just last week. What I heard the nerf was about, is that A-Net added the 5 to Blood Magic requirement and there was no requirement before. Could be wrong on this, but I remember reading this somewhere.
Don't feel bad, Former Ruling, my buddy, being all brand spanking new to the game, said that this item sucked and sold it to merchant quicker than I could say whooaaa!! this is worth something.
Also I believe Symon gives out a few quests and not recalling the name offhand, I believe it is named Cities of Ascalon, its the one where you have to visit I believe 3 historical monuments, one in King's Watch, one in Surmia (the mission), and one in Nolani. You also get 1000xp. The other quest Symon hands out is the Counting the Fallen quest which you also get 2 focus items (not the -50hp focus item) and just 500xp.
P.S. -50 HP Focus Item For Sale

All of you seem to be saying that you got it a week or so ago, when I beleive it was the update last friday that nerfed it. This seems likely, since anet has not made an update log about the patch.
boxterduke
Well I got mine a couple of weeks ago from the quest. I still have not done the quest with my other 3 characters.
I will try tonight and post to let you know.

Sorry if this seems a little noobish, but WTF is the big deal about this item. I know it has something to do with a monk build, but why would you want your HP to be dropped by 50 points in the first place?
Just curious...

Protective Bond - Enchantment Spell
While you maintain this "Enchantment", target ally cannot take more than 5% damage at one time. When Protective Bond prevents damage, you lose 6-3 energy or the spell ends.
Lower HP = less damage = more efficient healing. Used for solo monk farming builds.

Item is overrated, and you can get plenty of -20 itmes with better mods.
If all people are doing is hunting griffons, then they can easilly do that with 105, and NO minus HPs. I can take as many griffs as I can aggro with 105, and I never die.
It does help against enemies that cause bleeding, but not a lot of people can hunt those anyways unless someone gives them a blueprint and a mp. Even then they get wiped pretty fast, especially if there is an interupt enemy there as well.
As for whether or not it is nerfed. Doesn't really matter IMO, since there are A LOT of them kicking around. Most are 5-10K. Anyone that is farming doesn't care as they will make it up pretty quickly. If they did nerf it, I also doubt it would get seriously more expensive. if it did then one or two guys might actully buyone, and everyone else would not be able to sell.
It doesn't do a whole lot. If you are not in UW just die and you get down to 33 health anyways.
VERY overrated.

but if you die and get 33 hp, then as soon as you kill a few mobs, your health goes back up very quickly.

I only die with 105 when I am trying 7-9 giants and a couple of scorpions. Usually because I get an interupt that stops a divine heal.
RobotMULE
Lets say you're fighting a group of 15 griffons and 15 minotaurs at once.
With 33 hp from dp, what can happen is all the minotaurs die before the griffons do (I forget which really die first but its just an example). Then you have 105 hp again, and the remaining 15 griffons may kill you. Its a hassle to run all the way back to pick up all the loot just sitting there.
Basically with 55 hps, its easier to kill a larger group and move on directly to the next group without having to die again and run all the way back.
The effect of healing breeze or mending (combined with prot spirit of course) is basically doubled with 55 vs 105 hp, which allows you to take groups twice as large.

You won't be able to aggro that many. I am not sure but I think the most that can actually get to you is 12 enemies. Not to mention that griffons will only come in 2 at a time so you aggro 4 groups you get 8 on you and 4 watching.
I have tried to aggro as many as I can, I think 11 was the most I got (not counting scorpions and elementals) which are ranged. But unlesss you have SOJ and get it off those are guys you don't want to mess with.
But I understand what you are saying. But against Griffons and minotaurs you shouldn't be dying at 105 or at 55. But by the time you get to 105 you should have enough of them killed to take the dmg. Think it takes 8 or 9 kills to get 15% DP erased.

They didnt nerf it, i just got it on my monk by doing the quest (finished it 10 minutes ago!!!)

The guy gives two quests. Only the second one gives the item.

Thanks for the posts...I did "Counting the Fallen" and still no "cities" quest available. Did I miss something?
kvndoom
You have to complete your first mission, Northern Wall I think, and "Counting" quest, then he'll give the quest to you. My Ranger just got the item 2 days ago, so it hasn't gone anywhere.
Former Ruling
I've gotten it on 4 more characters now (I deleted a few that were just past doing the quest and redid character), one merely a few days ago.
I sell them from 6k-10k depending on how many minutes I want to spam selling it in Ascalon. Really isn't anything big.

You can find a botter in Ascalon District 1 buying them for 10K almost constantly. I sold mine to them after 2 minutes of browsing yesterday.
The bots need the -50 hp focus to do their solo griffon farming, and they don't have the time to do the quests themselves.

Ohhh....well then I should try it with the ONE character that has done the first mission, heh. Thanks again.
