Hi everybody! I am a level 14 ranger / necro. The topic of this thread basically states what mind set I am in. I LOVE the ranger class. In every mmo rpg I just love being able to kite and barrage foes with arrows. The problem I have is well.... are Ranger/ Necros good at pvp? I orignally picked necro as my secondary because of the good debuff options they have. However, from what pvp I've noticed ( the only pvp I've done is well at the areans in whatever town I am in) it seems that I am very useless? I don't do as much damage as a Ranger/Mes or Ranger/Ele, I don't have the survivablity as a Ranger/Monk. As of right now, it seems that doing insane damge or being able to survie are more important to debuff. I don't have rend enchantments yet but I do have shadow of fear. I am confused and scared. I basically don't want to sux in pvp and I feel that well with this combo I will. I am just a noob that doesn't realize the power or rend enchantments? Can somehelp me!!@!@ I really don't want to start over as a Ranger/Mes ( the reason why i would start over with this one is becuase of the insane damage. I've versed ranger/mes and I have been killed rather quick)
Help a ranger/necro recognize his role and pvp.

Well, it seems you've already recognized your role in PvP, but the problem is you're trying to fit that role to the arena, which isn't actually PvP, more of a gathering place for nubs. Every good PvP will benefit from a secondary necro running Rend + 1 or 2 good debuffs. Ranger/Necro is a good a combination as any other for this task, especially seeing as you like the ranger playstyle.
Rangers are one of those classes that need to get to lvl20 (they're very dependant on having a large number of attribute points to dump into expertise and marksmanship) and pick up a few choice skills before they can start to shine damage wise, so don't fret if you seem to be tailing behind a bit atm.
Necro is actually one of the best secondaries to take for a Ranger. Due to the way they're setup atm, the best rangers will be those that dump at most 5 (preferably less) attribute points into their secondary skills, and curses is the perfect line for that. That's from a PvP perspective anyway.
And try your best to take no notice at all of what goes on in the arena. It in no way, shape or form represents how things playout in organised PvP. It's a good place for Wa/Mos to gather and grunt at each other, but not a place to try a character that is tooled to fit nicely into an 8 man team

yeah, pharalon is right-you just need to level some more, and get more choice skills. I also have a ranger/necro, and have problems with that at its low level. One question- is the epidemic spell a necro or a mesmer ? if its a necro, good idea- use a crippling/bleeding attack at one person, then cast epidemic to spread it ^^ useful when guarding the hall of heros.
EDIT: Nope, its a mesmer skill
