Backfire do nothing against Ring of Fire monk boss, because hex only last half duration on Mursat bosses.

A trick with Backfire is using it without any points in Domination. Not many people check to see how much dmg it does and would stop casting. Does not work against a complete noob though.

Ok, I believe you probably are wrong in the statement "backfire do nothing". Half duration only? Then that is 5 seconds, and if I remember right, the monk bosses are firing off their spells at a much quicker pace than that. And echoed backfire? That gives me two backfires to use, at half duration that is 5+5 = 10 seconds. Now that must do more than "nothing".

Still, backfire may not be efficient enough, may not be the best thing to cast, but I would like to try it, maybe tonight, and see what happens. Echoed backfire and guilt? Maybe the boss could heal himself to death? Be interesting to try.

Not true...someone that just got backfired (usually a caster) will suddenly not be casting...what else is he gonna do apart from check the backfire?

Backfire will work for 5 sec. During this time a higher level NPC usually stops casting. This is when you spam him with Wastrel's worry (only 5 energy/quick recharge). If he casts, backfire gets him. If he doesn't, Wastrel's worry gets him multiple times.

Anyhow, as I mentioned above, for a monk boss I use Power Block not backfire. This keeps normal NPCs from casting for 14 sec, so a boss would be down for ~7sec. Remember this elite stops ALL healing spells (spells of same attribute), then hit him with Wastrel's worry and Energy burn!

This is despite the fact that ineptitude only affects one foe at a time (causing damage and blinding). On the other hand, Energy surge, for example, causes damage to all surrounding creatures.

I don't know why this is the case; perhaps the combination of the fact that with henchies, all are targetting the same foe that I am targetting, and with ineptitude, this foe is then blinded and therefore helpless. So although ineptitude only affects one attacking foe at a time, I normally take this as my elite nowadays.

Anyway, the point is, when you consider "skill interruption" abilities of a mesmer, and if you consider the usual target of interrupting a skill (as opposed to a spell) to be a ranger or warrior foe, then the mesmer has more than just leech signet and cry of frustration. In effect, things like ineptitude and clumsiness are also extremely effective (although they don't actually stop a skill from occurring).
Definately. If I was to focus on warriors/rangers that would be the elite of choice...and with an all hench team, a very good choice. However, when playing on a team will real people, most assume the mesmer will be attacking the casters (decided before playing), so I focus on monks first, then necros, and eles. This means that I have to use a different elite, however, I alway keep one skill around to help out on the warriors/rangers...usually clumsiness or empathy.

The other good elite for warrior/rangers is signet of midnight. They are blinded for 15sec, but I prefer ineptitude also.
