A plea for Pentalties
=HT=Ingram
I am Begging the developers to put into place some kind of penalty for people disconnecting in Competitive arenas. Every time I go into arenas we are doing fine, then one person dies and before I can even use a res signet on them, they leave the game cause they died. That is so cheap cause now the likelihood of winning a match with uneven teams is so low you might as well forget it. I stay in the game however and play as best I can, but normally I end up in there alone as people see one disconnetor and then they too leave cause they know full well they lost anyway. This pisses off people SOO much I can not express Civilly How I feel when This happens... Its not Fair game-play, its just Jerk offs wasting everyones time and efforts unless they are assured an EASY win. PERIOD. Any effort required at all on thier part and they are GONE. That just plain and simple Sucks.
I propose a Penalty for disconnecting from an Arena game. something like not being able to go into another Arena match for at least 20 mins. This will Discourage people from doing this lame --- practice and get REAL arena competition going. not what we have been having lately, which REALLY sucks.
I can understand a occasional mistaken disconnect, but not at the level we see in arenas. They disconnect EVERY game it seems like. and I am not the only one complaining about it in the districts when we come out. after about 8 times it happening I forget about it. Its a waste of time to play arenas as it is, now its a source of aggravation at Idiots that will not PLAY the dam game.
I mean seriously. How is anyone suppose to test builds and try new stuff out with things like this happening. I'm so pissed at this moment I'm ready to just forget about everything to do with guildwars at this point. Its not what it started out being anymore. Its perverted into this ... this... all I can think of is Jerk Fest (that will not get blocked by the forums)... that desire easy mode or something... And if they do not get their way, they storm off and screw the rest of the people that actually PLAY the game.
This has happened with the farmers, the Exploiters, now its happening with the Disconnectors. Whats next Friggen Hackers Making they godly weapons like happened in diablo? My prediction... Probably. That's the quality of players I have been seeing lately. the kind that would drive a shiv in your back rather then play a game fairly.

I am definitely with you on this one.
Those who say they should not be penalized for loss of connection, it won’t be a loss if you’re not connected. I think 3-5 mins is a more appropriate penalty, however.
That way, whatever time a leaver believed they may have “wasted” on a team not to their satisfaction, actually might make them play with at least a minimal effort.
And, what’s worse than someone who leaves before you have a chance to rez them? Someone who leaves the instant you finished using your rez sig on them.

If you think he'll be running around for more than five minutes, then you quit, make your coffee, and probably start playing again before he stops his marathon.

Totally agree on this one too. Not only Arena fights but in PvE cooperative missions, most of them i do with heches if possible. I prefer henches to some other players just becous they simply dont leave if they die one time and get some death penalty for a little while...Or if the healer wasn't targeting them at the moment or wasn't able to heal that ninja guy, that think he's god running around pounding on monsters like crazy just becuz there is a real healer in the group instead of a henchman... Idiotic...
There should be some kind of elite or seriousity districts, where you have to pass a few test to be able to join, or something like that.
A "Quitter" counter could be assigned to every player and showing the shame in big numbers hovering above their head how many times they retreated in the middle of a arena fight or a mission...

Lava map in compettition arena, many times i have been on a team that had two leavers within seconds of connecting.
It's as if they do not want to play that map.
A couple of days ago, i went to use a res on someone and they disconnected while i was casting the res.
I went to use it on someone else, and they disconnected.
I suggest permanently banning them temporarily.

Idea #17 here:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...0&postcount=60
Something like that can be implented, a money or any other penalty would be extra problematic since some people leave for other reasons (disconnected / game freezes or crashes)
That percentage would make it easier to make 'Reliable'-teammates.

Good topic, the competitive arenas are pathetic.
There could be a faction penalty for leaving.

I'd rather leave it how it is. The time saved from leaving doomed matches far outweighs the occasional annoyance of someone leaving prematurely.
I would suggest removing or revamping the lava map. That would cut down on the leaving a bit.

But the point of it was that it's more than an occasional annoyance, seeing as how there are even people who leave only to mess up other teams' fun.
The team should not be penalized because you're too impatient to put forth a modicum of effort to finish the match. Likewise, you SHOULD be penalized for screwing up the team's chances. Think about it, say 4v4, and you leave...suddenly everybody pretty much loses. You screwed over 3 other people with selfishness.
The game is about skill, not the better team you happen upon wins.

I've seen this from the other side as well. I remember watching this poor guy run over to his team mate, begin casting a Res, the dead one leaves, and I wail on the poor sap who was still casting the spell. I felt bad for them. That was one of the main reasons why I won that match. I didn't like the win, because I'm such a goody two-shoes, but still...
I like the idea of a time penalty. If you get disconected, then you're probably going to spend that much time fixing your connection.

I would be happy if it was just a instant spawn of a henchmen, even if its a dead one. So it can be res in the disconnectors place. Then at least you got a chance. Yes the next round you get a henchman in their place, but for the current man your still screwed in the process. Glad I'm not the only one that had seen this. its been happening so much, I'm starting to wonder if its a new way of faction farming in some way... I was in tonight and saw 3 teams just join and disconnect immediately. I was like ???? HUH.. instant flawless victories??? Thats still cheap. I suppose some of them could be just bots that connect, enter match, and disconnect... who knows... Still a pentalty would be helpfull in stopping this action. Either time or faction loss. something...

I was giving some of our gold items from my PvP guild storage for rewards. lol Seriously. that was SOO fun today. thanks all you guys . This was very nice to see for a change...

---------------------------------
1- A quitter should have a 1-3 minute penalty that bars access from the same competition/arena and/or mission because he wishes to go faster.
2-A quitter should have a counter on his head and/or some way to show that he has quit in the middle of a battle/mission and others penalized him for it, this counter should appear in the respective mission/arena and is redeemable by playing in *good conduct* of by using faction points . One more reason to use faction points other than unlocking skills (Cleans you're file )
3-When someone quits a henchmen of the same proffession take their place.
4-If someone is afk and/or does nothing or does not talk within a period of
10 minutes a yes/no boot vote is initiated. If he is booted a henchman of his proffession teleports to the team's location. (This takes care of unecessary afkers or free-loaders) and he has the same penalty as a leaver.
--------------
[U]Suggestion/U]: In the game Battlefield2, when someone team kills, the person who was killed has the option to forgive the player(alleviating his score penalty) or not to forgive (keeping his penalty). I think this would be a great idea to enter in GW. Players could privately vote when someone leaves so as not to penalize the player if he had advised them so, they where loosing or is a guildy. If someone leaves for a valid reason then that person doesn't get penalized
You'd have to have a majority of the players say I forgive yes/no for a penalty or nonpenalty.
If 1/4, 2/6, 3/8 of the members (depend on the size of the party) votes *yes* in a given team then the system could look at the total counts of the other players yes/no. If someone has voted no more than 5-10 times in the past (and in a row) for the heck of it in parties where the same number of players (as metnioned above) had voteed yes, then the system treats him as *a jerk* and ignores his vote
This could be a very good anti-jerk system.

Hey here is a good one for you. I am in an arena and the Necro on the team commits suicide by using sacrifice spells (during the timer countdown). I type in "WTF!?!" one of the remaining players leaves, I just stood there dumbfounded and got killed by the other team. The Warrior on my team took a few hits before he reacted to the attack. The other team actually let the warrior on my team go 1 on 1 for a bit till he attacked several of them then they killed him. It was actually funny if you think about it...but I feel your pain about the jerks hosing people like that. But this is unfortunately what happens when you have a game that draws so many to it. Many of them are the same people that were aggravating us on D2.
EDIT: I do have to agree with MSecorsky's post below mine though.

Have quitters replaced by henches, that should alleviate the pain a bit.
As for a quit counter, it has problems...sometimes people quit in a mission because of a RL event that requires all of their attention, or because they simply got DC. But maybe make some signal that someone quit his/her mission during the last hour? If people have RL stuff to attend to, they usually wouldn't be online during that hour, so they don't get penalised. And the difference between DC and a deliberate quit can usually be detected.

If the person is going to log or "break the connection" the time to do this manually to log out, log back in, load character would be too furstration for the faction farmers.
If it's repeat keep adding more time (as bots would auto do this).

Are penalties really needed? Why not just make it a major annoyance to leave battles before they are fully determined?

It's called random arena's for a reason. The abilities of your teamates is random, more often than not, so is there actions, I refused to be penalized by leaving a fight that has already been lost. Random Arena is there for me to test builds and screw around, I couldn't really care less about anyone else participating in the battle.
johnnylange
If they leave the battle then map travel is disabled for 5 mins and all the town guards will go hostle on them. The reality is there's nothing you can do about it nor is Anet going to bother implementing some pentalty system...I'll bet the farm that they read all these posts and laugh their a**es off!

There are valid reasons for leaving and getting a penalty for that is not acceptable. Just don't take those arenas too seriously. I sometimes go in with a testbuild and when it turns out to be utter crap i just leave as i'm of no use to the team anyways. This way i simply cut the "ololoool noob!" flaming and harassing at the end of a match.
There are several more valid reasons for leaving, two of wich i will name:
First:
A moron starts flaming his team. I'm not enduring the anger of some random freak on the internet just because his favorite porn picture was taken offline.
-> Instant Leave
Second:
Lowlevels. If they can't be bothered to make a PVP Character or atleast level up to 20, i can't be bothered to play with them in a team. No love for the team? No love from me.
-> Instant Leave
/not signed from me
So basically, the way to deal with leavers that buhuhuu screw your fun:
Dig a hole.
Cry yourself a river.
Build a bridge and get over it.

Um... Random and Serious don't go together. If you don't want people leaving constantly then don't play random arenas. Penalizing people for leaving is SUCH a bad idea. I'd say about half if not more of the random arenas I go into there is a person on the losing team who runs around trying not to die.
Yes every other match I want to wait for god knows how long for them to kill him for 5+minutes because I left. That's a brilliant idea.
