Guildwarsguru.com buggy??

I run mozilla firefox on my PC and GWguru seems to be buggy lately. first of all - the newest ad banners (i.e. free ipod nano with girl shaking back and forth) seems to eat up resources so bad that I can't even scroll!

also, it is making mozilla unresponsive, requiring ctrl-alt-del fun!

but, most important to you all at GWguru - your front page isn't loading, aside from the left navigation bar and the oh-so-wonderful iPod nano advertisement.

you may want to look into this...

(i took a screenshot to show you, but i can't find it - i swear they make things easier to find on a mac, still getting used to my pc)

about an hour ago gwguru was bak to its best with the latest threads showing on the main page. but 20 mins later that went along with the whole front page except for the left side panel thing. is the site still bugged?

I've noticed a few problems as well, at first I thought maybe it was a few bits of some viruses and other bugs I might have gotten on some Internet venture, as it's happened in the past, but it's not with any other websites so I'll assume it's a gwg problem. Earlier today the bottom part of the left panel under "community" wouldn't show. Just now nothing except the side panel would show. The latest threads weren't on the main page for a long time, sometimes the page half-loads or loads images wrong, etc. Often times I get weird bits of the coding and error messages at the top of the site, it just depends.

So long as I can reach the forums though I'm alright.

are the newer ads taking up resources for you guys too? i have to right-click on the ads and set quality to low and try to turn the loop off (it doesn't always turn off) so that i can actually scroll on the page! more than 2 tabs (firefox) open and it freezes my browser.

and no, i'm not running a dinosaur PC here, amd athlon 64 3400+ and 1gb RAM, etc etc... and it's not a problem on other websites either (gwonline.net has ads that hog resources too, therefore i dont' use their site much). rather doubtful i have a virus - but i do need to do a spyware check (ugh).

Cheers.

First of all - I'm not complaining about their possible site issues, I'm simply informing them. I love this site, use it every day, minimize GW to look at stuff while in game, etc. I'm sure they want it to run as smoothly as possible. And honestly, if my computer has issues with this site, I imagine others do too.

And here are the screen shots to prove it. You're going to want to save these on your computer and zoom in, I imagine. I visited a few different sites and marked on the CPU load thingy, when that was. Notice the sustained CPU usage of GW guru (NOTHING ELSE OPEN). Yeah, and my CPU usage maxed out when I opened photoshop at the same time. But PS by itself only uses 5-10%.

I think you should complain to your advertisers...

(first scren is of my browser and CPU tracker, second is a screen of the screen in PS, showing that usage also).

Yes, the front page is loading fine now! yay!

EDIT: again - AMD Athlon 64 3400+ and 1gb RAM.

It's definitely the iPod Nano thing. I can't surf GWG and play GW at the same time (although whether I'm really playing GW is up to debate.)

Well, actually, I just added an anti-banner ad plugin to Firefox, and it seems to be working okay. I'd rather the problem isn't there in the first place.

ok i have banned that ad from appearing on our site. Hopefully its gone now. Just to note, CPU load only goes up high on Firefox but in IE its fine There's just something about firefox that uses up so much load

the ad is back....why?

oh, and i know that firefox is a bit more of a resource hog than IE, but i prefer it (tons). love tabbed browsing. and, as you could tell by the screenshots i posted, this was the only site that REALLY hogged my resources.

Update: some other ad is slowing down Firefox/GwG now. It seems to be because the ads are using Flash. I had to use other plugin to disable scripts. It's rather annoying, not being able to do runs and kill spam at the same time.

I have a few words to you ad-people.
Norton Internet Security, forty dollars.
Installing NIS, 2 hours.
Seeing no ads for the rest of your internet surfing days, priceless.

I'll screenshot whenever I'm not playing GW, as trying to run those ads during GW kills my comp.

Not playing GW...crap.

This one's evil, forgot to get where it links to though. It seems to be the ones advertising free stuff that kills Firefox.

When I am on a computer with Norton Internet Security that has Pop-up/Ad blocker on it I have no problem on this forum.

I have noticed that when I go into a thread at times at the bottom I can't find the GO button. Also it will mess up and I'll see the brown separator over a post. I have to click Refresh in order to fix it. This has probably been mentioned before.

I run McAfee Security Suite and the popup/ad-blocker is awsome. I didn't know GWGURU had ads. Just tells me that McAfee is working the way it should.

The evil evil iPod nano ad is back, linking to here. Unfortunately as I'm not at my home comp, I can't take pics or whatever.

*high five* I actually allow ads for sites I like such as Gwguru, Neowin.net, web comics (penny arcade, vg cats) I like to visit and such. Only site that is great but has extreme ad / popups I do block is warp2search.net
