Calling all warriors who PvP
Alone)
Alright, for about 2 weeks now I have been entering PvP competition arenas and I have been asking the opposite team if any warriors wanted to one on one. And I was just wondering if any of you who do want to one on one, would like to do so as well. It's something to do, and you get to know more about your warrior build against...other warriors. Obviously. But of course, with each build, there is a counter.
Obviously, people will call names, make fun of me, have no trust, etc. But that's a given. No one has control of their fellow teammates. If anyone interferes, well, just have to call it another day.
And no, I do not use one of those silly warrior/monk invincible builds. That's a waste of time. That's a tank for staying alive. Not dealing damage.
In Game Name: Aroan Taelight. I have already met a few of you in game, and hopefully see any of you others.
Record stands at 71:5. Really wish there one on one, and a scoring chart. I've been bored and been tallying on a post-it note on my laptop monitor. -_-

Actually this might work, you just need to get 7 other warriors who wishes to do 1 on 1 as well, then have all 8 of you enter the international Team Arenas, and duke it out in there?
Or the recent updates screwed this up? Like say even if you form a team in the international team arena, you will still get matched up with the normal team arenas?
Can anyone try this out? My guild is not that big and does not have that many members online at any given time.
If this method fails to achieve 1 on 1, then we can always try unranked Guild vs Guild

I love it when a Warrior (on the other team) calls that he wants a one on one duel with another Warrior.
That means my team practically gets a free win. Seriously, I will never insult someone in game who gives me easy faction by attacking a tank.

Man With No Name
I'm gonna guess what he brings. Since he claims he doesn't use W/Mo we'll go with...
W/Ele Sword
Some whacked out point distribution like:
Sword Mastery 12 ( 11 + 1 )
Tactics 14 ( 10 + 4 )
Earth 10
Gladiator's Defense
Riposte
Deadly Riposte
Healing Signet
Armour of Earth
Gash
Galrath Slash
Final Thrust
Full set of Platemail
Fire Sword with +1 Swordmanship Pommel
Seriously this is just daft. Any Warrior worth their salt will be attacking the soft targets.
Lock please...??

Ive heard there's suppose to be an update that allows dueling in the future as well as auction houses etc.
This will be cool.. maybe players should be allowed to bet on themselves to win? maybe make things more interesting if there is some reward?

yep, the Man with no name is right here. You don't learn anything from other warriors, except who is the better tank maybe. And tanking isn't exactly needed in PvP normally.
I predict that in the end, you have 2 warriors that can't kill each other, and boring each other to death.

Why do you flame him? He was just asking. If you want to play me,i'll play you. I'm a W/E as well, IGN is Hugh Snyder

Because it's not fun to have your match become lopsided because one of your members wants to lock himself in a pointless statemate instead of attacking a good target?
Seriously, Warriors are specifically built to soak physical damage. Especially when it comes down to just how many play the Sword/Shield Paladin build. A build that is even better at dealing with physical damage but tends not to be so good at inflicting physical damage. The best way to deal with your average Warrior is to disable him and kill him last.
Following that logic, Warrior is an absolutely lousy first target. They do not pose an immediate threat to your team as a Monk, Mesmer Elementalist, Necro, or even Ranger does. Attacking a Warrior first is playing up to his strength, it is the equivalent of standing in the middle of an Elementalist's Fire Storm. Diverting your damage from a worthy target to a Warrior is a great way to cause your team to lose or at the very least reduce the effective odds to 3v4.
Play however you want to play, but realize by doing so you are a burden on just about any team you will join.

If I was on a random team with a warrior who wanted to attack other warriors, I would happily leave. When I play random arena, I am not there to waste my time. Or I would be happy to heal him while he is dueling- thus spoiling the fight.
I can understand people wanting to duel, but the way things are currently set up, it is selfish to expect 6 other people to waste their time so you can enjoy dueling. And given the number of Wa/Mo's around, I doubt many duels would finish quickly.
If you really want to see how good your build is, try it against necros and mesmers. Although I suspect that against a good one, you would get eaten up easily.

Whoever can interupt healing signet wins the match??????
I really don't see the point in this. Bring watchyourself + doylak signet, and the match can last as long as it takes.
Imagine two mesmer fighthing each and they just keep blacking out each other and humility-signeted each other's elite. Yeah, a typical " win -win " situation.

This is one of those threads that convinces me that should Anet ever implement a 1v1 mode, hardly anyone will take it seriously. Even then, eventually everyone will come to realize why it was never added to begin with.
Sofonisba
It would be difficult to implement because inevitably there will be one person who does not have local chat on to hear the 1 v 1 challenge, and chaos and bitter feelings ensue.
I would leave also if any such challenge were made and accepted. Fun for you, but I do not wish to pin all my hopes on one player... plus I want to play too!

All I did was ask. If you don't want to, that's your choice. No one ever said about having the other 6 players not fighting each other.
Santanus_Perro
Why flame the guy for suggesting warriors get together to duke it out? Moreover, if your argument against it is because GW is about team play; why then in the same breath talk about how a non-warrior can take a warrior out at will? The two arguments are not congruent with each other.
Obviously, there is no way to control if you are going to get an opposing team made of all warriors, but when you do, let the melee fighting begin!!!

The arguements aren't congruent, he was just making an aside that if Alone) wants to test his build, perhaps he should fight something that is actually dangerous to a Warrior.
Melee damage is pathetically easy to counter, ever notice a trend of the major hotspots to farm? Two Words: Warrior Mobs. That is why Warriors have such a low threat level in Random Arena, and that's why it's selfish for Warriors to duel. It's not an accomplishment for a Warrior to kill another Warrior, it's a drain on your team.
MSecorsky
I remember this one poor warrior bugger in the arenas, his whole team dropped on him so he offered (hoped) to take on our team (4 rangers) one on one. We were nice, I even offered to go first.
Poor guy. He did quit right before I got the kill though.
It wasn't pretty.

Furthermore, suggesting that this fellow try attacking someone like a necro was a way of pointing out that his win loss record isnt worth much until he faces some serious warrior hate.
If you break this game down into 1v1 it becomes not much more than rock paper and scissors. The team aspect is where we see the challenge and skill in the game.
Besides this guy was flamed. For the most part, people have been pointing out why they disagree with his attitude (i.e. selfish, wastes time, etc). You might disagree with their points, but they really arent flaming at all.
Eet GnomeSmasher
Well I think it's damn annoying and selfish when someone in my teams asks to duel someone...and yes it's pointless in a team situation like that, however...
It's just a game people. 1v1 could be fun (when and if implemented) whether or not if it's completely balanced. The smart ones will realize that the outcome of 1v1 means nothing except for fun so what's the harm?
And if you bring a healing monk into a 1v1 situation you are an idiot if you expect to win with any other means other than just surviving. So please don't make arguments based on what stupid people will do.
1v1 would be an OPTION...meaning that you people who don't like it wont have to participate. Simple as that. Geez.

consider running numbers if you had the opportunity to run a 1vs1 within your own guild ... you could run more effective builds in Guild battles, and tombs from more precise calculations. Sister guilds only can go so far in number crunching, especially if you belong to a tight nit guild like mine. This is where a 1vs1 environment can help guildwars. Not random, not ranked, not famed ... as an accessory to a guild ... sort of a training grounds. My thoughts on this topic.
Eet GnomeSmasher
Well I think there should be a random form of dueling but I agree with you on the rest that it shouldnt be ranked or anything....otherwise being only to fight your own guild members is pretty darn limiting...especially for those with small guilds like mine.
Just make it have no benefit to the contestants other than the fun of just beating up on each other.

I'm not a warrior, (I usually play either a monk, or more often a necromancer as my primary) but I'll still usually offer a duel one-on-one against a member of the opposing team. I have an unorthodox build, and it's always interesting to see how people deal with it.

I suppose I was more focused on two random people getting together for the "Dur, my character can own your character" aspect. Honestly, most people would get tired of it once they figured out that it'll tend to be either an unnecessarily drawn out, totally unfun stalemate or already decided from the start.

From the hints that ANet has given us, I believe that 1v1 will become an option, but I think it will be available within a guild rather than random. Thus, people will be able to do controlled tests and such easily and with cooperation. I think that this will kill a few birds in one fell swoop (if I can mix metaphors )

Thanks for all the replies.
Anyways. There has never been a stalemate when I have been doing 1v1's. Nor has anyone had it decided from the start. And no, it's not wether to be "I can own your character." And it is skillwise. I use no runes, no over 100k worth weapon nor shield. Just skills alone. I feel that the reason so many people say it is pointless, becase none of you have really tried it yet. It is beneficial. You learn from your mistakes, or you know what to do again when the same situation occurs. 1v1 has helped me learn to build upon progress or change in the tactics of a full 4v4, or in tombs as well.
And besides. I have fun discussing builds with other warriors after the fight. Whether I lose or win.

I'm pretty tired of the people who keep saying this and that shouldnt be in the game just because they don't like it even if such option wouldnt really affect them.
"Oh it shouldnt be put in because it's a team game..." or "It shouldnt be put in because it's pointless blah blah blah"
Those are such examples.

People are going to say "That's a stupid idea" when there are threads that suggest a stupid idea.
Welcome to the internet, Eet GnomeSmasher. If you're tired of common behavior on gaming forums, I suggest you log off, because this isn't something that is going to change as long as human beings both have the capacity and the right to a dissenting opinion.

That's funny Sanji. Telling me to log off just because I expressed an opinion of being tired of seeing a type of behaviour. I could also turn it around on you and say that if you think these threads are "stupid" you could also log off and not read or reply to them.
That's my suggestion to you.
EDIT: Also I was not referring to the responses to the OP's invitation to duel but the responses to any suggestion of putting in 1v1.
Not that it changes your response...which was baffling to me why you'd respond that way..

Tactical-Dillusions
I had a 1v1 with another tank once when our teammates died. It was going forever.
I was using conditions, victory is mine, mending and signet, he was using breeze/signet/mending. After around 20 minutes, we decided to take our mending off and try again.
We stood back and removed mending.....but it was still a draw.
Confused, we asked if we should call it a draw, while our teammates (the few that was left) hung on for a few measley points.
He suggested we remove our armour aswell and without thinking, i agreed.
I died because he was using energy attacks and i needed to build adrenaline. lol.
Waste of half an hour but it was great fun.

I don't see the problem here. I strongly support the idea of 1v1 fighting. Personally, I wouldn't use it much. However, I know how much people would like it so why not support it? I mean, if they implement a seperate area for
1v1 then the people who want to do that can go there and the people who find it pointless can go somewhere else and do what they like.
I don't see why there's anything to discuss.
"It's pointless, you learn nothing". Pardon? First of all, I think many people could learn from a good duel once in a while, since even if you're fighting in a team normally, you still can't attack more than one target at once. Second, dueling would be, for those who like it, entertainment. If entertainment is pointless then the whole bleeding GAME is pointless, along with listening to music, watching tv, playing a game of cards or reading a book. Crikey, if people like it, let them do it.
"It's a waste of the rest of the team's time." Ok, point taken. In a 8v8 (or something like that) someone starts a duel I see it can be pretty annoying for everyone else. But there are ways of solving the problem. A) Duel while the others fight. This is a bad idea since most people will kill each other, leaving the duelist to duel forever and ever untill they decide to call it a night. Bad idea. B) Make a seperate place for people to fight 1v1. Ridicoulousy good idea, compared to the other one. The plusses are that everyone can fight without annoying other people, no one has to do something they don't like and everyone gets what they want. The minus is that Anet has to implement it first.
Make a seperate place for 1v1 and it's a win-win situation for everyone, as I see it.
My main concern is that people who wanted to duel find out that it isn't as fun as they thought, resulting in wasted hours of work for the Anet staff.
Oh yeah, if I sounded a little harsh or threatening, sorry about that. I mean no harm. I just don't see why there's a need to discuss it, except that the Anet staff might waste some time doing it. My point is that it's like asking if there should be chocolate cake AND strawberry cake or just chocolate cake. If 50% of the guests like strawberry cake then why not give them strawberry cake? Those who like chocolate cake can eat their chokolate cake and not pay any attention to those eating strawberry cake. There's no reason to think that baking strawberry cake should suddenly make the chocolate cake disappear.
Ok that was my input.
