Me/R
Tyler_Shortbow
So i decided to make a Me/R and let me tell you I love him. For anyone that wants a good team/solo/pvp type character this is your mix. I have heard most people say that its not as good as R/ME but I beg to differ. First I use a bow so I am pulling in some decent melee damage which is good against casters and healers. secondly I use domination magic. I use 3 spells empathy against warriors to kill them when they want to go head to head with my teams warrior, I also use energy burn as my primary nuke (at 12 i am seeing hits of up to 95 with this against some monsters usually around 50 though) and for casters and healers i use backfire to destroy them when they try to cast spells. My other slots are filled with marksman shots and one slot for my pet. This build may not be the best build ever but honestly I am in love with it. I have been surprised to see that no matter what position im in I always seem to be able to turn the tides just enough to either defeat an opponent or be the last one standing in a wipe. Let me know what you think of this build.

Sounds like it's working for you. I played a Ranger/Mesmer in the final BWE. I'm playing Ranger/Monk atm, but I'll probably start a Mesmer/x character at some point.

I am considering the same type of mix. Just curious how do your atribute points look?

I have the same question.
I play the Mesmer class almost exclusively, but have been intending to learn Ranger soon. So far, I've seen use in any sub with the Mesmer primary, excepting Ranger.
What benefits do you see in playing Me/R over playing R/Me?

To answer your questions. Most people would say that R/Me is the better choice so that you can get expertise, but I chose Me/R for the fast casting over expertise. You see i dont use my marksman skills as often as my Me spells. so the fast casting really saves me when the faster i can cast the sooner the mob will die. Also my attributes are distributed in marksman, domination, and fast casting, and that is it. I use a pet also but it is just for some extra damage and maybe eventually not at all. i found that the domination skills are best with this setup because your primary purpose is to just do as much damage to all types as you possibly can, any tank that gets empathy on them will understand this and any caster with backfire will understand why mesmers kick butt across the playing field. I support it and you get the cool classy look of the mesmer with a bow. hope that answers your questions. need to mess around with a pvp character to get the max skill points used and such but havent done that yet.

Yeah, if you're using mostly Mesmer stuff, then that makes sense.
I think I stilll need to try out the R/Me combo myself. Thanks!

I've been playing R/Me since I first got the game, and I love it! I finally got some better Mesmer skills, and now I kick total arse

Any caster that is casting through a backfire needs his head examined....
Me/Ra and Ra/Me are a natural fit though, that much is true.

Thank you, now I can build an effective work around for our first encounter
But seriously, I have it the same, but im backwards, as a r/mes. I have almost the same setup most times, and it owns. I am a very big supporter of Chaos Storm. That stuff is mad cool on lrge clusters of snacks

You would be surprised. I find the most effective time to use it is when the caster begins to cast a spell. With fast casting i know I will cast mine much faster than the caster so it lands mid spell cast or just right before they cast. Then it leaves them stranded not able to cast for 10 seconds. works great and in that time i can destroy them with energy burn and some quick arrows. Thank you all for the feedback on this build and hope it helps some of you out.

I prefer the ME/R build for that little bit of extra energy. Empathy just shuts down an attacking character and your pet is very useful at lower levels for getting in the way of attacking monsters. I generally don't have more than 1 bow skill in use and fill the bar with mesmer skills.

Oh, I agree it shuts down their casting while it's up - if they have a good group it'll be stripped off fast though. It is great PvE and PvP, in that it at least forces a delay in momentum while it gets squelched, and at best it kills the caster (the dumb ones).

I was using Backfire one some casters and the spells just went straight through :/
Weird.
