Collectors at Crystal Desert and beyond give out max damage weapons for next to nothing.
Example:
Ascalon Bow (composite)
15-28 (max damage)
+15% damage ^ 50% health (very nice)
if you then costomize it..
+20% damage
Then you have the ability to add 2 more upgrades like
sundering 10:10
fortitude +30
you have one really nice weapon with the mods you want without having to worry about limiting conditions like hexes or enchantments, ect...
I've tried to explain this to people but they tell me to get a "real" weapon.
I use this weapon explained above and it works very well.
Am i missing something or do people just want Gold or Green weapons. It seems the way I have described above is an easier lower cost way of getting a fantastic weapon.
Please tell me if im missing something with this theory.
Bye the way the weapons dealer at the forge has a long sword, max dam, +15% dam ^50% health for 5k
thanks.
max weapons at low cost

For fighting, I use greens (cheap by the way since I'm a necro).
Some people like to collect stuff since they have no where else to spend the money.
There is a limit as to how much gold you can carry/store.
And long-term PvE goals in this game are scarce.
After getting FoW armour, some people are still rich, so they collect weapons.
Items such as crystalline swords and sickles are very rare and to some people, they look good and prefer to wield a good looking weapon.
In terms of damage-dealing and stuff, they're the same.

I like collectors weapons exactly for the fact that you don't worry too much about whether or not to customize them. With uber gold items you always wonder if you should or if you're better off trading it.

If you're going for pure damage it's hard to beat a collector weapon; argueably the 15% always are better if you can handle the negative, but for the money collector's can't be beat. The only reason to go for a non-collector is the look; same way FoW armor is so much more expensive than Drok's, is the way a 15>50 crystaline is more expensive than a collectors. Your collectors bow is doing just as much damage as their halfmoon; if they try to tell you otherwise they're delusional (called "having the l33t5"), unless they are sporting a 15% always halfmoon.
Offhands, however, are a different story. The 45/-2 stance shield is good; but if you want options like a -2/-2 stanced/enchanted, you're going to have to find it yourself. You just can't find the stats on collector items that you can on looted offands. Then there's that whole look thing again...

It depends a lot on the weapon. Some of the collector items are just amazing, but others can be replaced by better ones. For instance, the collector axes are only +15% in stance and +15% while enchanted, which are certainly decent and playable mods, but not as good as 15%>50 for instance. Similarly, swords are only +15% while enchanted, which is of limited use to non-W/Mo's (now, the weapon guy at forge sells a 15%>50 for 5k). Staffs, wands, and non-shield artifacts are normally far better from the collector than anything you can find normally.
