Armor question

I'm a relatively new player (level 5 w/n) and forgive my stupidity but I have a few unanswered queries. Anyway I've began scavenging resources (iron, bone etc.) and im just curious as to what/how much resources I need to get some decent armor and once I get the materials where can I turn them into. Also how would one go about acquiring a guild cape? Any help would be groovy.

And, you can also aqquire a guild, and cape, from the Guild Creator And Emblemer, you can find them in Ascalon after the searing.
