Bleak months ahead without a new realease ?
Andraax
I heard the next large expansion was to be expected before mid 2006.
That's a very long time to wait, even if it arrives in february, for instance.
As I have to this date done everything I felt I wanted to do : explored every single place with every single character type, helped out on very many missions, GvGed and PvPed (though I'm not very interested in the latter, because I have a competitive job and I don't need more competition here), I don't know just what I'll do on GW come late 2005.
I play about 15-20 hours a week, and I could do something else in the mean time, but then I'm afraid I'd just get involved in that something, and I don't think that is what either I or Arena want. I just like the feel of the game, the fact it doesn't cost me anything to play, and the friends I've met there. But even that is becoming old. Anyone else feel that way ?
Sooooo, the question now is : will anything like the summer mini-expansion come out any time soon ? Perhaps an autumn or winter mini-expansion ? Something that would keep my attention until the larger expansion ?

Correction andraax that would be the FIRST large expansion.
Also, not really, considering anet is releaseing all sorts of new content for chapter 1 in the meantime.

95% of us feel this way, but we still strangely keep playing ...... i dont know why and when you say new content, sorrows furnace kept my busy for ummm a few days then it got boring, repetitive and reminded me of everything else ive done prior to the update

I really hope we get a new area for the holidays or something, since im guessing allot of people are going to stop playing since like you guys there is nothing left to do.

I am not making assumptions about you, Andraax, but I'm speaking more in general way people mistakeningly feel betrayed by Guild Wars not being built to have infinite replay value. It doesn't, Guild Wars has finite content. It doesn't offer you level 100, it doesn't have three difficulty modes to play through the game with, and it doesn't have mad loots.
To that end, Guild Wars really doesn't support the fanatic and constant playstyle of a real MMORPG. Anet, likewise, can't really do anything for the people who want to play the game like an MMORPG or a Diablo Clone. I can't guess what Anet's intentions behind Guild Wars is, but after playing it as long and as much as I have (Been playing since last years' October public preview, each monthly prerelease event, and finally 780 hours after release) that it is a very different beast than your typical online roleplaying game.
This game does require pacing (that is the occasional break) and the ability to play it without being tied up in the "This game is only fun if I'm rewarded for playing it" orientated attitude. If you can't do either, it's hard to see much chance somebody truly enjoying Guild Wars for what it is, not what it isn't and won't be.
If I have one criticism about Guild Wars, is that while Anet did do something different, they did it in spite of years of games programing players to both think of and play games a certain way. To that end, some people just aren't going to be able to adjust to Guild Wars as a hybrid game that tries to shrug off traditional artificial replay mechanics.

I got bored of the PvE content quite a while ago now, I sometimes dip into it now and again. I'm currently running my 3rd char (necromancer) through ascension after all but abandoning her a few months ago. Really i'm only doing this because I need to unlock skills, and I feel obliged to get a 3rd character through the game. It's not really that entertaining to complete the game a 3rd time...
The only longetivity this game has is the PvP, which i'm happy to say i'm still very interested in. GvG and Tombs are great and a real challenge. If you don't like PvP then you are out of luck sadly, because that's where all the late game entertainment is to be had.

this game was meant to be played until it gets boring and then put back on the shelf until the next chapter/big update comes along.
when OBLIVION comes out i am gone.............until chapter 2 comes out and then i will return.
each new chapter that is added means a longer game for a new player just starting.
by chapter 3-4 there might be enough content to keep a casual newplayer going indefinitely

probably because you play too much....
of course u'll get bored if u play a game for 20 hours a week.....get a life and then come back to it in a week

20 hours a week? I often do that in a DAY, lol.
I myself have reached a crucial milestone today...i have unlocked my last skill and i now have nothing to unlock until C2.
I was kinda thinking of tearing the last two months from my calendar to make the pain more bareable.

The way I have fun now days? I bought a second copy for my girlfriend as soon as she got a decent computer. Now we play together.

That's a bit less than 3 hours a day. My dad is a casual gamer and plays more than that O_o

the way this game keeps me entertained is when i make it hard for myself to kills things. i fight nude and with another weapon type that isnt with my profession, i dont take a full group of henchies, i lure like 3 groups instead of just one. i do those sort of stuff to keep the game fun for me and i also do gvg (best fun ever)

I'm not that crazy myself but i did change secondary on my ranger and go solo farming with the basic skills that you get. My /death count increased a fair bit.

That's just highly artifical way of having fun, more like fun forced out of boredom, than anything else.

if im with human players i play properly as its fun already with human players. when im bored and got nothing to do i do that and yes i go naked when i solo
(the low lvl monsters only. easy kills makes me happy )

They really should let us play different storyline characters.. like for instance, from a charr perspective, or from a stone summit's perspective, or from a mursatt's perspective.
And I don't mean lame quests like Galen trusk where you just go in as humans and pretend to be spys, I really meant your character will be a mursatt in the grand scheme of things, etc.
Of course it would also radically change the design of the game, but IMHO, that is the true approach to great replayability... the true integration of PvP and PvE too.

ya GW seems to be dieing off a bit for me. after november ill have been playing it for a year! pve has lost its luster, and i dont really have much motivation to get that set of fissure armor. but pvp has caught my eye now. i pretty much pvp exclusivly these days, and it keeps me on GW. its always different, and almost always fun. but to get me back into pve, im guna need somethin really different.
PieXags
I'd play more if they'd update my 15k tormentors set.
TopGun
Keep in mind guys... there are other games in existance.

Guild Wars isn't WoW. Take a break, or choose to only play a few hours a week. Give PvP a shot (if you haven't already). I love Guild Wars but I probably play equal amount of Freelancer and Metroid Prime.

You're only having a problem because you're imagining that Guild Wars is in direct competition with EQ and WoW in the first place, it isn't.
That is, Guild Wars isn't an MMORPG. This isn't World of Warcraft Lite or Diablo 3. Maybe you think I am doing some PR for Anet, but I am not. I am just stating that this game isn't for everyone and that part of the problem with people burning out on the game is because they think they need to rush through it instead of enjoying it. I'm not ignoring Guild Wars' flaws, I'm just not bothered by them as other people.
So yeah. If you want a traditional MMORPG or a Dungeon Crawler, you probably should move on.

Guild War's competitive edge is to offer an online game that looks like a MMO, sounds like an MMO, and almost is an MMO for no monthly charge. Actual MMO's like WoW and EQ/2 charge to play but they offer way more support, content, and updates then GW. (that's their competitive edge)
I enjoyed the game for a few months, but the problem I have with GW's is the lack of content and replayability. You can only PvP and play the same mission(s) over and over before you finally say this is getting old. Personally, just like the others who rush through the game, I too don't really feel like going though the same old "noobie" missions everytime I create a new character. But if you and others don't mind it, enjoy. But as for me, it was time to move on long ago.

I played the game to death. I couldnt put it down and was addicted. Tried pacing it and couldnt. Finished every part 2 month before Summer update, Very long two month waiting and being promised that the new area will be the hardest yet????? finished sorrows in 4 days all quests. And did 95% with henchies??.
Now use the game as a chat channel.
Will buy the 2nd part but for now started playing other games. Sniper elite, Fable lost chapters, Battlefield 2,
I find this website a good pointer towards new games and free alpha testing opertunities.

If you did both pve and pve for a few months you still haven't done pvp to it's fullest. Sure, it's easy to do everything in pve in that time, but you obviously didn't want to try and succeed at pvp at the different levels.
If you don't exhaust the entire pvp options of GW then you have no argument the game is lacking content and replayability.

and also, thanks to its lack of monthly fee, it is more of a popular game. it will be bought by people who have never bothered with any MMORPG's.
i am not bored. i will never be bored. my family want me to play EQ2. i will not. i can not.
i've recently started a new ranger. i'm gonna do all the quests. every last one of them.

Arenanet are probably hard at work on chapter 2, observer mode and the auction house. A bit more communication as to what they are up to would be nice, but they already do more community contact than any other games company I've seen.

I rather Arena-Net take their time and put out a good solid game then rush into it with all sorts of problems.
Also on the 25th of October....CIV4 is being released. I know that will be my main game of this coming winter.

Even though I agree that the content and replayability of GW doesnt seem comparable to other online games, I like it for just one reason alone:
It doesnt FORCE me to play nonstop just to obtain UBER-GODLY weapons or armor so that I can compete fairly with "elite" players that can afford to spend the whole day at the game.
So for those of you who wish to move to other more time-consuming games, your entitled to your choice of playstyle but dont blame the game design itself.

But having said that, I took a break off GW and after playing a couple other games I've popped it back on..... now it's fun again. I only play about an hour or two when I get a chance, but there's no need to rush. Lot's of good games are out there to play, and GW will get there when you come back.

Actually back in april is when I quit. I think a few days after release is when. I played the game for the pve aspect. Quests really didn't mean much to me so that is why I just started playing again. PvP (except low level random arenas) are not fun to me. I like it when everyone is still equal. When you get to level 20 arenas everyone is not do to the fact of money. I do not have that much. So really I cannot have all these superior runes and what not. Anyways I just wish they would put more pve stuff in. Quests are not as fun as the missions as I like to get more of a storyline..

There is one thing that will never happen but how I wish it would.. That would be that the game was never released. The beta weekends were so much more fun. Everyone was new, no one was twinked with droknars armor in the ascalon arena. And the waiting for the next weekend was so much more fun.

It could be very competative and fun just on a different level. Just like there are different levels of many sports.
Ah well it's my impression atleast, not that I have any power or anything.
