i mainly do Desert Runs as follows...
Thirsty River : 20k (takes about 20 mins)
Dunes of Despair : 15k (takes about 20 mins)
Augry Rock to all desert missions + towns : 1k (takes about 15 mins)
Augry Rock to 1 Desert Location of your choice : 200 gold
Amnoon Oasis to Augry : 250 gold
Elonas Reach: 3k for yourself, 1k if you wait 5 mins for more(about 10 mins)
Desert Package : 37.5k (all places and missions complete) (about 1.5 hours or less)
You can now pay with Ectos (11k each) and Shards(3.5k each)

BTW, i dont like doing runs outside of the Ascalon area and Chrystal Desert. There are far too many hexes that make me move slow (that stack with other slow hexes). In the end, the desert is the most important part of the game...its got max collectors armor, ascension (for FoW and UW), and GRIFFON FARMING.
