Looking for high speed internet.

But I don't know what to get so I'm wondering what you all use.
How much does it cost, how fast is it, is it reliable, and any links to a site of theirs is always nice.

do you have cable tv at your house?

I had to slow my internet down on purpose when my mom got on to convince her that dialup sucks.
No I have no cable TV. I'm deprived child!

have you seen any cable tv commercials lately? or what about your friends?

Why not just type in Google Reviews of ISPs. Let the internet do your research for you.

The cost for decent cable access is within the $30-$40 range. Avoid "High Speed Dialup" as it won't help your GW speeds at all, only web pages. I've come to trust in the reliabilty of my own Charter access, but I live in a city of less then 50,000 people so you may have a different story in your area on that front.

i have SBC dsl and since i am less than 2000 feet from a fiber optic hard point i get over 300 KB/sec easy.
less than 40 a month on promotion.
150 KB/sec can be about 20/ month

SBC Yahoo isn't available in Oregon. Man.... Oregon sucks.

That is decent speed. I have 6mbs too. Also if you are a new subscriber to Comcast you can get a deal. I got 6 months at $22.00/month....then $45.00 after that.
Killion
6mbit connection should get you around 550 kb\s unless you're far away from the central.

Hey killion are you refering to my download or upload speed?

who's your local phone through if it's verizon chances are good that there's DSL available otherwise at the very least look into the god forsaken AOL they have DSL now although it's extremely expensive and AOL sucks
but for playing GW you don't need a fast connection I used to play it using my cellphone to connect through my laptop and i was still loading up faster than most others in my party I honestly don't notice a difference between my cell dialup and and DSL at home for gameplay
BTW the cellphone runs at about 14.4

The other thing to take into consideration when looking at DSL is you need to be within "x" feet of a junction and even if you are withing the proper feet spec of the junction the farther away from it you are the slower your signal becomes. I had a friend who was within 30 feet of the junction (the corner of his back yard) and another friend who was about 500 feet from the same junction and he could never attain the same speeds as the one 30 feet from it with a similar spec'd system.
