Is there no interesting unique loot that drops in this game?

Hi I'm new to Guild Wars and have been playing it to see if it's worth my time and the game seems to have a lot of potential. One of the things that really concerns me at lvl 8 and a couple of missions under my belt is the absolute lack of unique drops ie loot.

I've played everquest and eq2 in the past and one of the things I really like in an online roleplaying game is, unique gear, not just this linear progression of generic items that everyone else has from level 1 to 20 that I seem to be seeing. Am I missing something here??? Is there some cool unique loot that drops? I mean even diablo had rare drops that were part of sets etc. Hell even Diablos normal 'random' drops had more flare than the armor and weapons I've seen drop. I realize that you have to craft your own armor but even the weapons that have dropped are so plain it's not even funny.

My main is an elementalist and all of the staves and wands that i've seen drop so far are completely boring and to some extent stupid. None of the staves really have any bonuses that are useful for a caster, I'm better off using a sword that is one handed and equip a held item for the extra energy.

The armor crafting system seems really linear too, you are limited to the same line of armor depending on the city you are in. Is this pretty much how it is even in the late game? Am I just going to be wearing the same 'elementalist robe' but instead of +30 armor and +5 energy it's going to be +75 armor and +15 energy or something?

Please tell me I'm missing something and it gets more original in the late game or else shoot it to me straight so I don't waste any more time playing this game.

Thanks,

There actually ARE unique drops, but like they're supposed to be, they're pretty rare!" there white drops (normal), blue drops (magic), purple drops (rare) and golden drops (very rare). Example for one of those drops is the hammer I got:

Hope I could help! Just be patient and you may find something too!

Ya, you are missing a lot. I'd suggest searching the forum a bit to find out what.

Yea last beta I had a rare flame sword like Prince Rurics sword... and a battle axe that had rune abilities. So I know there are good weapons to be found, but most of them were in the far western regions of Tyira. I found both of those in the falls...
Best still is finding unused Runes so you can appily abilities of your choosing to the best weapons you can get your hands on. Down side... only one special ability at a time per weapon or armor. At least from runes...

Another good area to find good weapons.. (not as powerful but good none the less) is north of Ascalon. the dragons gullet I believe its called. Lots of hydra drop good weapons... Lots is a conservative estimate. Cause there are a BUTT LOAD OF THEM...

thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll stick it out in hopes of there being more personality to the late game. I know you guys have said unique weapons drop but what about armor? Is it pretty much the same ol stuff?

Presumed missing...

Yes and no: armour can be upgraded with runes and coloured with dyes.

By the way: weapons also can be modded.

There have been a lot of threads like this and there will be a lot more. Not everyone is coming out and saying it, but folks just want some ultra cool looking gear to roll into town with. It doesn't matter if it's any more powerful then the next guys gear. It's about styling. If some guy strolls into town with some shimmering turquoise gauntlets I know I'm going to be thinking "oooh that guy looks cool" and be jealous. I know I won't be the only one. It won't matter if they are actually 5 points weaker than the ones I have on, I will still want them.

I don't think that most people are worried about the functionality of weapons and armor, just the variations from a purely aesthestic point of view. Maybe later in the game there is more unique looking equipment and this is much ado about nothing.

I do wish I could wear my cool looking silver helmet into town though

like most games including diablo and eq2, the furthe you progress in the game, the better your chances of finding a rare are. I agree with you though. I'm a lv.12 elementalist and the best staff/wand I've found is a fire staff with fire damage 5-8.
