I noticed that Life Steal doesn't count as damage where every other type of attack other than degeneration does..

If I use Mark of Protection on someone, the spell cancels out all damage except degeneration.. And Life Steal. Same thing with Protection Spirit. Why is this? Life Steal looks like normal damage to me.

Is it becuase this type of damage counts as Health transferal and not damage or something?

This makes it impossible to stop or slow the damage from Necromancer blood-spike groups, aswell as Order Of The Vampire weilding IWAY and Ranger Spike builds.

I don't see why Life Steal should be the best type of damage. Not only does it ignor armor, but it also ignores.. everything else.

That is why. It's not damage, it's degeneration. Life stealing, bleeding, poison, etc. are all degeneration. Degeneration is treated differently in this game than damage (physical or elemental). Damage is countered by healing, but degeneration is countered by either removing the source of the degen (removing the hex or the condition) or by supplying regeneration to balance it out.

As has already been mentioned...it's a hex.....not a direct damage spell. It does it's damage over time not instantly....remove the hex and you stop the degen. Gee I would like to be able to Plague send Conjure Phantasm on the enemies.....but it's not a "condition".

Life steal is less efficient than any other damage, it makes up for it that way. Paying 15 energy for a touch range skill that only deals about 60 damage is proof of that. Life steals aren't overpowered. Protective Spirit and Mark of Protection protect against daamge, which this isn't. I think it's fine - life steals are less efficient than healing and less efficient than damage, have long recharges and only 2 are at all AoE - so they aren't exactly abusive. Why is it that anyone who loses a match has to come complain without looking at the balance?

Life steal counts as a condition, not as damage.

i agree. life stealing is one of the few ways the necromancer can hurt the enemy effectively..... and even then its not that effective...... personally i think that its more of a weakness than a strength.... you pull yourself into the middle of a fight to deal a little bit of damage...... not that good considering how easy necs can be to kill..... as for life draining.... technically.... as was said before...... its not damage.... all it can be counted as is a degenerative hex.... see if it were like fire storm where it does DAMAGE over time instead of draining it at a constant rate then it could be considered damage.

(Some of)You guys are confusing the concept of life stealing in GW with the skill Life Siphon (or Transfer). Vampiric gaze is a life stealing skill, get it? And it completely ignores defense and stuff.
But I agree that its fine as it is, the skills are costly as well as don't do all that much damage. If it was changed to not ignore armor, vampiric mods would probably also take a hit.
