Shaman/Runes/Mantles

Currently I have a Necromancer Shaman in my inventory that I'd like to use and a friend of mine has a Ranger Mantle that gives +1 to Beast Mastery that he would like to use. What do we need to do in order to use these items?

I take it from your post that you have identified these items. So now you need to use an expert salvage kit to retreive the runes imbedded in them. Note: the Expert salvage kit may not give you the rune everytime. There is no 100% sure method to recover the runes. The expert salvage kit gives you the best chance. Once you have the rune you can apply it to your armor by double clicking the rune and then clicking the pc of armor you want to apply it to.

Okay so I can't take the Shaman for instance, identified already, and apply it to anything? Without salvaging it first that is.

You've got the idea. The item found has to be "broken down" into it's components which can then be used elsewhere.

I take it from the descriptions of the items that they are profession specific. So if i have a Warrior Rune of X, then as a RAnger I could not use it. if my secondary profession were warrior, could I then use it? In other words is rune use limited to only your primary profession?

Yes, but at least now I know, and our guild can better deploy its runes to the players that can use them. Thanks for the quick info. GW community is outstanding in its help.

I read somewhere in a thread a while back about getting a better chance of recovering runes. The poster had said that the chances were higher if you salvaged the item (expert kit) BEFORE you identified it. It would salvage into 2 items and then you could identify the rune. This may have been during beta though, can anyone shed any light on this?

Is the expert salvage an "automatic" or is there still a chance the item will be ruined and only yield standard materials?
