created this monk for arenas just so i could make use of shield of deflection cus it looks so cool when you cast it i wanted to use it just for once.
mend ailment
shield of deflection
reversal
devo sig
prot spirit
inspired hex
channelling
hex breaker
15 df
11 prot
9 insp
4 dom
(not exactly sure on what the atts were but you get the idea)
it did pretty well and was much easier to use than other monks ive used... it did the job but it lacks a big heal spell, so if i was getting spiked i couldnt heal fast enough even with prot spirit up. having HB/Channeling/SoD all up hile standing next to some warriors is a really nice feeling though :P
anyways it wasnt meant to be a really serious build but since it did decent i figre meh maybe it can be improved a little to make it actually worthwhile (maybe)
SoD monk: silliness turned out ok

Get spirit of failure, and mask the casting time with a initial sod; youll make the energy back in about 2s.

No, that doesn't work, SoF only triggers when they miss, not when you dodge, block or evade.

No, it's, "Fails to hit in combat", which means as long as the attack doesn't hit the target, the energy is gained.
Spirit of Failure is excellent for use in the random arenas, and while similar to Blind+SoF, the hexxed person is more likely to continue attacking, though I rarely see people stop attacking no matter what they're hexxed with.
In organized PvP, it's likely to be a waste as you can be sure they're not going to let get away with an energy engine like that for long.

In higher levels, sof is alright as long as you stack a load more stuff on top of it.

duration really doesnt make stacking very effective since SoD will dissappear and when you recast it will be on top again. recahrge is good enough though, that it doesnt need stacking.

its a save skill. if the target is getting demolished even with your protection. you hit the sod and let the healer take over. this skill is great b/c of that. it gives the healer another 6 seconds to heal the target.

this is for arena... only one monk usually

Decreasing an opponents chances of striking one of your team is always a good thing.
How you obtain that "miss," be it: protection spells, or mesmers spells; defensively or offensively, is a personal choice every gamer makes when he/she decides his/her build type.

I really hate dealing with SoD.
It's not easy to Dis. Chop it, Wild Blow doesn't do much point with it, and Swift Chop seems to be the only way to put a dent in the caster using it. [for outright damage, you'd need Warrior's cunning, which is waayyy too conditional for me to use in my opinion]
Rending it isn't feasible either. Only thing I see worth doing to it is Diversion when it goes down.

the way SoD monks usually go down is either through attrition (hard to keep up a 5s chant that costs 10e) or throug heavy caster attack, since SoD does nothing vs eles/necros/mesmer

Signet of Humility. 'Owned'
Usually if your in for a rigourous spamming game youve got sof for energy management (in ca) and then for the eles you pick up elemental resistance from a /me. With the +20 from sod youve got very little work to do.... so just get ether feast, blindfold yourself, and then press 5,1,2,1,2,1,2,4,1,2,1,2,3,1,2,1,4,2,1,2,1,3,1,2,4, 1,2,1,2,4,1,2,3,4,5, repeat ftw! (thats sod:1, Guardian: 2, Ether Feast; 4 sof: 3 ele resistance: 5
