Hi there, I only do pvp in random arenas and I'm trying to play as monk.
I think I'm a pretty good monk, sometimes I turn really hopeless teams into winning teams. But with my current build, when i face a decent mesmer, I'm really kaputt. They throw on me tons of hexes like migraine, backfire, shame and I'm basically wasted.
Obviously I need some kind of hex remover, but i really don't know what to replace. Here is my build: comments, flames, insults are appreciated.
healing prayers 12+1+1
protection prayers 9+1
divine favor 9+1
1- heal other
2- orison of healing
3- dwayna's kiss
4- healing touch (for me)
5- mark of protection [E] (i really love this one when 3 smart wa/mos heal me from 23 hp to full life)
6- guardian
7- reversal of fortune
8- res signet
Any kind of suggestion is welcome.
random 4vs4 monk

Against a good mesmer there's not much a single monk can do, other than ask his teammates to kill the mesmer
generally for random arenas monking I go with a superior healing rune, a major protection and a minor divine on a monk/mesmer (And a minor in smiting if I use smite hex). equip a defensive (+5 armour) staff of enchanting (20%) based around healing and a sword with 20% enchanting pommel as a backup. The sword is a swap out weapon to end energy degen effects like wither, as by swapping out your staff your energy will hit 0 and the effect ends, enabling you to re-equip your staff.
Attribs should work out something like 13 healing, 12 prot, 12 divine, 7 inspiration, and you should have 405 health
healing hands (E) or Mark of protection (E) , dwaynas kiss, healing seed, healing touch, aegis, reversal of fortune/smite hex/sig of devotion, inspired hex, channeling
if you use Mark of protection you need to remember that your other prot based skills will be disabled for 10 secs, so if I bring that I wont bring reversal and wiill try and use it only while Aegis is recharging anyway. Smite hex, even with only 2 or 3 points in smiting, is well worth having because of the fast cast. Signet of devotion helps hugely with energy if you are getting difficulties that way. Pick which one best suits your game style
But basically, a good mesmer is a pain in the backside for any monk, and no matter what you do, they will always cause you issues.
There is always a temptation to bring a rez sig as a monk into arenas, but its really a very grey area, as your job is to keep folks alive rather than rez them, and the 3 second cast of a rez sig is often fatal to either you or another member of your team. Its a hard call, but I tend to lean away from rez at the moment.

as Patrograd said there is not really much a monk can do against a good mesmer, exept if he have desided to go anti warrior. The one i would change is res signet, but since its random you got no way of knowing if the others have brought it or not

I prefer a protect boon monk for random.
1) You will most likely be the only monk on the team
1a)you need to be able to heal
2) People like to go for you first so you really need to defend yourself well
3) Enchant stripping seems to be rare in 4v4 random
4) Hyper agressive teams seem to do well in 4v4 so I like to be able to stop them
my skill list
aegis
rof
hands
mend
smite hex
inspired hex
boon
rez sig/channel
I use channel when I am praticing for tombs. I like the skill decent enough. I understand that a rez is very important in 4v4 but sometimes people will drop if they die early and your rez ends up being a waste

best random monk (possibly team monk).
life bond
balthazar's spirit
blessed sig
armor of earth
orison
healing hands
healing breeze
healing 16
prot 10
divine 10
bond your teammates then spirit yourself. hit the armor and cover it with healing breeze. this build is an energy machine. teammate gets hit you gain 1 energy. you get hit you gain 1 energy. you don't get hit blessed sig every 10 seconds for 12 energy. majority of times i have enough energy flow to maintain breeze on the party for the entire match.

Bah boon+prot is the best monk. Kunts' CoP monk build is actually one of the most fun builds I have found ina while. It's basically like this Note: I didn't have the exact runes for it so these are just the base stats without headpiece and runes. The stats distribution was my choice and I modified some skills.
11 divine favor
10 prot
10 inspiration
{E}Mantra of recall
Contemplation of Purity
Divine Boon
Reversal of Fortune
Guardian
Signet of devotion/Inspired hex
Mend ailment
Divine Spirit/Shielding hands
The ones with the / are the ones i modified. But it works pretty well.

i totally agree boon protector is the best for random arenas. ok in team arenas if your team busies the other shutdown char
Mo/N
Mend Ailment
Reversal Of Fortune
Gaurdian
Shielding Hands
Remove Hex
Divine Boon
Offering Of Blood
Res Sig
12+2 Divine
10+2 Prot
8 Blood
It's really easy to heal and protect with this build. with divine boon plus the bonus you get from divine favor normally, you heal for 45+67 health for each cast. It's good for random arenas, untested in GvG and Tombs.

Life bonder/blessed signet monks (IMHO) are not well suited for pvp.
All it takes is for your blessed signet to get diversioned, interrupted, or in some way disabled and your energy is (basically) at a standstill.

I also find I have better results using only healing or only protection, and investing in a secondary attribute for energy management or self-defense skills, but that's a different matter.

The best 4v4 monk would probably be some combination of boon prot and contemplation of purity. CoP makes sure nobody can stack hexes on you, boon prot makes sure you can heal big damage spikes quickly, and the quick cast times make sure you can do it all in between knockdowns/interrupts.
