Ideas for Christmas !!!
kawaii_bat
Here's a link where you can post ideas for Christmas!
Feel free to add games, places, events and anything related to the next holiday to just give imput on what we'd like to see in the Christmas events.
__________________________________________________ __________
Place where St-Nic should appear:
No doubt about it! Droknar's forge!
It's in the cold northern mountains and it's got a bunch of dwarves/midgets around!
----------------------------------------------
Items given my St-Nicolas:
Surprise Crackers(Works like absinth)
*Poof* and you get blinded a bit. Except it's christmas colored.
Glowing red noses and antlers(Works like the pumpkin head),
As the descriptor says.
Eggnog(Works like witch's brew),
You drink eggnog you get drunk.
Spirit of christmas (Works like ghost-in-the-box)
A little elf-spirit appears and starts dancing and chanting a christmas tune.
-----------------------------------------------------
Special item (like the pumkin head)-Customized
Spell casters: Max dmg req 9(attribute with most points on character at the moment)U] Candy canes staffs![/U]
Warriors get a max Al damage resistance 1 (req9Tactics) Gingerbread cookie shields with Gum-drop buttons!
Rangers get Max dmg Toy bows (The ones with the plunger tops you see in cartoons you know?) They should be like shortbows.
That would be awesome!-Not to say Hilarious!
----------------------------------------------
How do you get items/where should he appear?
He could be far up in the Shiverpeak mountain, in trouble of some sorts caused by *the wicked ice queen* and you have to party to rescue him. This could be a week-long event of somekind. Not too hard but not too easy either
OR
He comes On Christmas eve up till Christmas like the Mad-king and plays games.

Dear Devs:
I know that alot of people won't have time to play on christmas day because of family friends and holidays spent away from home.
Christmas is *way* to tight for everyone. Please make sure you do it so it lasts a relatively long period (1 week instead of 4 days befor Halloween) and the great evetn might be better played at the eve up till Christmas itself to give a chance to everyone to get their X-mas item

Couldn't resist.
But yeah, new headgear like a Santa/Elf hat would be cool.

Just put a box on the character creation screen that changes the skin on the PvP items and armor to christmas themes.
It would be really funny to see people doing serious battle with candy canes and Christmas hats

Hmmmmm ...... Tiny little skimpy xmas themed outfits for female Charachters...... and big fat fat santa outfits with sacks for male charachters.
kawaii_bat
Let's see some jingling elves!
Go male mesmers! Do that brake dancing!
Wooooooooo!

ok, lets think about some realistic changes using the changes made in haloween.
The Cauldron... Obviously a large Christmas Tree.
The Mad King.. Obviously Santa..
Transforming Krytans into all sorts of christmas characters..
Haloween Items... Crackers, Turkey, Mistletoe (thats my favorite) snow balls.
Snowing in all areas.
Large Snowman in Droknars... (I love Snowmen )
I dont like the idea of a christmas hat.. I much prefer the idea of Santa out-fits for males and.... mmm.. well, I will leave female suggestions to your imagination

A winter wonderland with loads of lights. Christmas lights are my favorite so every building decked out in lights.

probably the event will happen in Droknar or Yaks since those to places are the snowy regions.

Replace all the grawl outside of Port Sledge with undead Reindeer. That would be a hoot!
Aera Lure
lol @ humbug. They could stay that way permanently too. Pretty much that is how I feel about them year round.
New item: Red Rocket. Its a one-use sled item that you can only use in a snowy area. You click on it, your character sits down, a sled appears underneath him or her, and you shoot off at high speed. Distance travelled could be affected by whether or not you are going up or downhill, if the game can recognize and calculate these changes on the fly, to introduce unpredictability. You cannot steer. Should you go into the wall, you stop. Should you hit a tree or somesuch, you fall down. Thinking only in terms of fun, mind you, and not either practicality or potential abusability - but it was the first thing I thought of. Sled racing FTW!

This would be very fun. I think that santa hats would be cool. I think the santa event should be an actual event not like just dancing with santa. I also think it should last for 12 days that way if people miss the first day they have another chance.
Carinae
We really need a /kiss emote to enjoy mistletoe!!
I want a Santa Hat personally!

It'll be cool to have Christmas Presents that you could buy from a merchant in each town. Presents would be either slighty higher the cost of a key, or double the price of a key. The Present would be a box wrapped in different color wrapping, with a bow.
Why have Presents/packages so expensive compared to keys? Well, depending on which area you buy the present from, the present acts similar to a chest from that area. When double clicked you instantly get a rare or unique item that you'd normally get from a chest located in that area.
How hard would that be to program in? Well, seems hard to me, but the chests work, so presents could too.
One other thing, Presents are gifts you know, so of course you couldnt buy a present and open it yourself, thated just be a "worm hole to get rich." So, when you buy a Present, that present restricts you from opening it, and to fix the problem with characters buying a present for their other character, Presents in package form couldn't be put in your storage, and cannot be salvaged while in package form.
This would be an awesome thing to give to say, your Guild officers or leader, or the reverse; giving to your ordinary guild members, thanking them for being an active player, or making the guild better.
Since the Christmas Holiday Spirit is to give to others, this would be a really cool idea.
*(Scammers and cheaters are everywhere unfortunately, which might make this idea lose interest.)

What they should do as a present idea would be to on Christmas day, every GW account that has a character at level 20 should get some sort of gold item, and not just some crappy item that just has a gold name and maybe +5 armor while hexed or something, I mean REAL gold items that someone would really use or sell for a decent amount of money. If Anet doesn't want to do that, they could deposit money into everyone's bank accounts, and depending on what lvl thier highest lvl character is, they get a certain sum of money. That way the people who don't need all that money can still get a decent amount, but not an insane amount like 50 plat or something. just an idea

has anyone played Asheron's Call? Out of all the MMOs I've played, Asheron's Call has to be my number 1 for being able to scew around with so much in game without actually hunting/questing/etc. During Winter there are killer snowmen (with 2 heads) and much more. I think AC is a great place for ideas. But AC is very old and nothing compared to GW for gameplay. Well I suppose this isn't a suggestion... except killer snowmen. =P

Don't have Christmas decorations.

We need a skill trainer that will teach you a Hurl Snowball skill (No Attribute. Hurl a snowball at either an ally or an enemy for 5 damage).
And I want the Titans to wear Santa hats.

Give people a snowball weapon that does 0 damage and can only be used in towns.
The Pirate
hey hey heres one that would stay permant. SANTAS BAG gives you more space in your storage. works like a bag but it doesnt have its own slots it just adds more space to your stoargae yey or nay?
Tyrent Frath
lets see...
i like the present idea, but i think it should be odd-based
like this: you choose how much you want to pay for the present (1k minimum) and depending on how much you pick, it improves your chances of getting something GODLY
...something along the lines of...1k minimum, 50k maximum, at 1k you have a 1% chance of getting something perfect, at 50k you have a 15% chance of getting something perfect
feedback?

Shouldn't be Christmas per se... not everyone or every culture does that. However, a winter solstice celebration would cover the same thing and would cross to all (most at least) cultures.
This also allows for creativity beyond the "Santa hat" (even though I'd love to see that...)
Evennia should be the Snow Queen, along with her seven dwarves...

Dont start the whole religous debate.
They called it a "Halloween" event and some religions dislike halloween, so "Christmas" can stay Christmas.
If your one of those people that doesnt celebrate Christmas then I imagine you've dealt with 9/10 people (in real-life) around you celebrating Christmas before and can deal with it in-game.
Now, that that is done, they could:
-Have Hot Chocolate as an item,
-And Have groups of Caroller (how DO you spell that?) NPC's in the towns.
-Stockings full of the previously mention items?
-A train set could circle some of the towns.

For that matter... what holidays may be coming primarily celebrated by our overseas friends that would be a nice touch for GW to recognize? I understand the Chinese New Year celebrations can be something... and people miss fireworks in GW, no?
Think outside the box.

When Halloween came I was disappointed to see that the charr werent celebrating it. I mean they could have dressed them up with bunny ears and a puffy tail. Why not for Christmass dress the creatures up. The white mantel can be santa clause and the charr can have reigndeer antlers.

cultures are intimately related to religions,
Merriam-webster:
a : the integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior that depends upon man's capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations
b : the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, RELIGIOUS, or social group.
Therefore my son, I suggest you realise there is no box, and stop trying to use incorrect cliche's.
You say I should start thinking outside the box.
I say you should just START thinking to begin with.

However, things have drifted off topic.
Charr in bunny ears... heh heh. I'd expect the bunny ears to be stuck between their teeth though...
I would like to see a holiday event encompassing a great many cultures, be they religious or not, so as to not only include everyone but to also introduce people to other cultures, other ideas. A united festivity.
With free stuff.

Add another quest in Sorrow's where you have to eventually defeat Bad Santa, and on the way his crazed reindeer. Be a good chance to slaughter some elves as well.
Sorrow's could look like the North Pole.
Could get special items like Candy Canes

Man there are alot of good ideas here. Hopefully these will be good additions. I like the ideas for collectors items but instead of an elf in the box i'd say go with snow balls. the way they work is they can only be used in town. Highlight a target and use the snowball, you throw the snowball at the target and they are effected by the ice condition (like what you find in marhans grotto) so they are slowed in town for 5 seconds while they are moving. Also I think a district wide snow ball war would be an awsome sight.
For the item you get from Santa a present that gives you a random high class item (either purple or gold, or one of the more expensive dyes) or even something like a christmas dye that when used turns your whole armor set red and green?

Throw snowball skill ftw! Also, sleds. Permanant item. Can only be used in snowy areas and on a downhill slope. Speed depends on slope but is faster than walking. Can be steered to some extent and cannot be used when you have aggro. When coming off a slope and onto a flat area, you slide for some distance.
Akilles
I want to see multi-colored christmas lights hung everywhere, snowmen henchman, Mad Santa!!!!!! Santa Hats!!!! Snow in L.A.!!!! Jingle Bell sounds! Christmas music (subtle) giant Christmas Trees.
pyrohex
New armor - like a big Bow-Wrapped-Package. Imagine all the walking pink squares...
The Son Of Morgoth
IMO i would rather have ArenaNet Work on the second Expansion and also maybe another big game update instead of something for Christmas i hate all this Christmas hype especially since i dont celebrate it....
Omega_2005
What about a Santa equippable set for christmas, and also where the Ettins and mobs that drop armor items, they should drop more purple/gold Santa's Boots that always have Major/Superior runes!?

A couple of things.
1) I don't think that anyone "got" the fact that my other (now-closed) thread "Dear Santa" was just for humor's sake. Just thought I should clarify.
2) Suggestions:
- I think one of the handout items should be a candy cane. And of course, all that sugar gives you a 5-second Sprint-like speed boost (non-stackable or max stack 2 or 3).
- Eggnog = Witches' Brew / Ale
- A friend brought up an interesting one: a Santa Sack that replaces the belt pouch and holds up to 20 items?
However, I don't think they want all events to be a mirror image of each other.
What I thought might be interesting is a few short new seasonal quests. Resurrect a small unused map (an early area from the betas?), retexture, throw in several dwarves beating up on elves and a few twisted objectives.
Either way, I'm sure what they come up with will be fun.
