My old HD collapsed, so I have installed everything from scratch, but now I have the weirdest problem, after a short amount of time, 2 - 20 minutes, the game freezes, and the audio turns into a highpitched white noise sound, and the only way to stop it is to reset the PC, I cant ctrl+alt+del out ....

So far I have updated all drivers + directX, Im now using the catalyst 5.5 driver wich should be the best one.
My bios settings are fast write OFF and 4x agp.

Im on a 3200 AMD
1gig ram
Radeon 9800pro 256
And I have absolutely no skill with PCs, so please contribute if you have a possible solution

(I never had a problem running GW before changing the HD)

I don't know if it would make any difference but is your hard drive the same as the last one?
Also consider the possibility that there might be an unnoticed problem elsewhere in your pc.
It might have been the cause of your hard drives death.

With you saying that it's ok for 2-20 minutes, my own personal assumption (if you haven't tried it already) is to check for overheating.
So try a forum search on that and get working on it.

I already cleaned the dust off the video card and CPU, I do that regularly, and I use a 530w power supply, so it shouldnt be power related.
What I find odd is that high pitched squeeking sound that accompanies the freeze, and I was hoping that someone here was able to pick up on that detail and say :"aah thats just the so and so, do this"

About my old HD, it really did crash, and had been acting up for a long time, I should have swapped it earlier.

I tried installing total overdose, and the same error happens.

I opened the logbook, and found several red errors under system, but my skills are not with PCs, so Im not sure what they mean.

I get a lot of disk errors, and in the details it says : the driver detected a controller error on \device\harddisk0\D

I also get some Atapi errors, they read: a parity error was discovered on \device\ide\ideport1

(I translated the error descriptions from Danish, so they may not be exactly like the English version)

Still not fixed, it still freezes with a high pitched tone after a few minutes.
