Suggestions for Ranger spiker build
Waylayer Brixt
I recently started messing around with rangers and this is my current build, if you could give some (hopefully positive) (and) (hopefully constructive) suggestions, that would ROCK!
Ranger/Elementalist
Resurrection Signet
Conjure Flame
Kindle Arrows
Troll Unguent
Favorable Winds
Tiger's Fury
Dual Shot
Quick Shot [E]
Short Bow (for the speed)
Fiery bow string
+30 Health grip
+1 Marksmanship hankie
Sup Vig
Major Marksmanship
Minor Expertise
Minor Wilderness
Minor Beast Mastery
Fire: 9
Wilderness: 10+1
Marksmanship: 11+1+2
Expertise 7+1
Beast Mastery: 1+2
My main problem i think is that Im spreading my attributes too thin, but i think the skills mesh well...
Anyway, please give suggestions, and plz dont FLAME.

I've addressed the "third prep" issue many times for rangers, at the risk of seeming incredibly arrogant - self quote ensues:

Personally, I think its unnecessary, a pure ranger decked out correctly with spirits and attributes pumped can achieve exactly the same. Heres the up/downsides.
Conjure Flame can be used if you do Kindle Arrows, this is because the bow's attack is turned to fire, and you can use conjure while holding a zealous bow. The problem here is that you have to spread your attributes between five attributes (expertise, marks, wilderness, beastmastery, fire)...thats...tons. Considering you absolutely CANNOT go lower than 10 in expertise, this limits the overall effectiveness of your shots. You get, lower kindles, worse spirits, lower bow damage, lesser TFs...for like...a 7 point conjure which costs you 10 energy regardless. I don't like.
Judge's Insight doesn't last as long as conjure, and according to some it doesn't do as much damage as either. You use Read the Winds to boost your normal attack damage, and since you're using that...you can pump your normal bow attack high as well. This is much better for distribution, especially since you don't need to have high smiting to get a lot out of Judge's Insight. Word is...in all practical ways RTW doesn't stack with favourable winds so thats a downside. Also you have to consider that Judge's Insight doesn't last as long as a Conjure would and it takes 2 seconds to cast on top of your normal 2 seconds with your prep. Thats a lot of time you're not shooting at anyone. The most you can get out of your ranger spike is key in 3 shots. Under Tiger's Fury you fire: Dual Shot+Quick Shot+Savage Shot. You place the long casting shot at the start, the extremely fast shot which has an aftercast at the end and the Quick Shot comes off fast under TF and has no aftercast so you sandwich it. You can get 4 arrows into the air mightily quickly. This is generic, you may not need all of these skills for a large team of ranger spikers. You will want to adapt according to your skill setup.
Troll Unguent meshes well with nothing, Conjure is in doubt for the reasons listed above. The following is a very generic ranger spiker you can use.

Attribute lines go 10[14] expertise / 10[11] marks / 10[11] wilderness / 5[6] beast. It's better for energy definately, you're using 10 energy shots in Dual Shot and Savage Shot, I don't know how you're managing with 8 expertise but for 10 energy shots 14 is what you want. You can take 2 sup runes and fortitude gear to leave you with 13 wilderness survival and high power kindle and 410 health.

better to bring hex breaker instead of TF, imo.

I think most ranger spike teams go with RTW instead of kindle.

ummm, wheres the RES sig???

yknow i tried a build where i was warrior primary, had 16 strength and 12 marksmanship. i couldnt come up with a decent energy managementh tho, i used penetrating attack like once before i had to wait several hours. fun part was i could hit for up to 70 damage on a normal hit (if i got lucky). best i think was ~100 damage on penetrating attack.
ohh i can see it... a bunch of noobby w/r with bows using a penetrating attack spike... LOL

Most spike teams go with RTW instead of kindle for a couple reasons.
1.) faster arrows 2.) damage is still physical and as such will trigger Order of the Vampire and Order of Pain, both of which will bump up your damage enormously over kindle if you're in the right group. AtomicMew
Do penetrating shot and strength stack? I would think they wouldn't because the melee version doesn't (or so I've heard).
also, for energy management: flourish? ;x smurfhunter

also, for energy management: flourish? ;x i thought they might. like hey, why not? the idea of flourish was i would be able to go power attack, penetrating attack, flourish, etc. problem was flourish takes like 1 second to cast and by the time it was done all my skills were recharged and i had no energy left. lol it was funny tho |
