Halloween was indeed very nice! So i must say: Thank You ANet! I especialy loved the dance parties in lions. I think on Sunday (or was it Sat? O_o) we had a line of necros (about 10 necs including mine) a line of male warriors, a female W line, M rangers, F Rangers doing sync in d2 LA
It was awesome i must say! Or the 2 circle monk sync in the following day (i was in it too ).

Waiting for the Mad King was same fun either and when he arrived (for the 1st time for me), i was suprised i didnt miss him (I always seem to miss the Frog and You Gaile )

Well i can only repeat the others: Halloween was very very good. Lots of fun and good ideas. I can only hope the next 1 will be as good as this. + i see lot more ppl on GW these days! Its obvious they came back because of the Halloween event

So: Congrats and many thanx for the devs and for everyone who made it happen!

Doh! Well I'm sure to have an upset toddler whenever the server kicks me for having an old build; I haven't played since Halloween night. Since then my little one has been running around north Kryta with the "candies" that make the "magic smallers" for him; poor guy will be heartbroken.

Thanks for a VERY well thought-out script for the Mad King event as well as the excellent decorations (the candimen should stay though!)! Not sure what you'd do for thanksgiving though...chase tengu about with axes?

Any excuse for a party!
Careful mate. They'll have us dressed as Morris dancers - that's more than I could take.

Good job Anet and thanks.

Thanks ANET. Great way to get everyone involved. Mad King was very fun, and I really enjoyed all the Holloween toys, especially the pumpkin crowns. Maybe, if we do something for Christmas, we could all get Santa hats! Whohoo! That would be cool. Everyone running in a conga line with Santa hats! Thanks for everything! You guys rock!

Good point about the various holidays, with the amount of time europe takes off work for holidays the release will surely be delayed.
So is Budhism based off Hinduism.
It gives you an ethical system to reach Nirvana, which in Hinduism is actually rejoining with Brahaman, the world-entity(Or God/heaven)

Cheers Gaile and devs for a great event

It was the first time 11 people had been on in my guild for several weeks, and we all went to the Mad King together, had lots of fun.
I've saved up a lot of potions, not really knowing the reason why I'm doing it .
PS: I drunk a lot of Witches' Brew. Whoa...remembering it makes me feel bad.

I certainly respect your view, I just want to make a clarification on the meaning of the X in X-mas.

Quote:
USAGE NOTE Xmas has been used for hundreds of years in religious writing, where the X represents a Greek chi, the first letter of Χριστος, “Christ.” In this use it is parallel to other forms like Xtian, “Christian.” But people unaware of the Greek origin of this X often mistakenly interpret Xmas as an informal shortening pronounced (ĕks'məs). Many therefore frown upon the term Xmas because it seems to them a commercial convenience that omits Christ from Christmas.

Staying off topic briefly... that was introduced after the fact. The "X" in X-mas is an abbreviation used because the "X" resembles a cross (tilted), so you phonetically get cross-mas sound in the head (close enough) when writing a shortened version. The Greek thing is coincidental.

No, sorry, I won't "scratch it off the list" - your zenophobic comments are now starting to border on racist. Because there is no God that means a belief system is not a "religion"? WTG, you just insulted about 80% of the world's population.

re·li·gion (n).

Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.

In short, the world doesn't revolve around Christianity, or the US, or US holidays. I am not against events such as what ANet did for Holloween, and I do hope they do more for other holidays, but I also acknowledge that the world outside of my own personal space and beliefs has just as valid reasons to be catered to.

And Anet (personally) shouldn't get wrapped up in religous debates - they are a game company.

I do think it would be kind of neat for ANet to do something unique for the Koreans specifically - like a special event honoring one of their major holidays that everyone could participate in. The Lunar New Year is fast approaching...

Really?

May I ask for your resources on this. I took a year in Koine Greek in seminary. I never heard of this. I'm not trying to sound doubtful, just that the manuscripts are considered ancient.

Thanks!

PS: Here is another excerpt from the article I linked to:

Quote:
In many manuscripts of the New Testament, X abbreviates Christos (Xristos). The Oxford English Dictionary documents the use of this abbreviation back to 1551, fifty years before the first English colonists came to America and sixty years earlier than the completion of the King James Version of the Bible. At the same time, Xian and Xianity were in frequent use as abbreviations of Christian and Christianity.

Try to stay on-topic guys. Although word origins are interesting, this thread's about the past and future Guild Wars events, and issues that may affect them, not the semantics of Christmas. If you'd like to discuss the origins of the word and its variants, PMs are probably the best mode of communication.

Thanks

This is a nice way to reach a compromise between those who would like us to keep the decorations forever and those who are prepared to return to regular day-to-day life in Lion's Arch, Tomb of the Primeval Kings, and Droknar's Forge.

We are delighted with your positive response and your kind comments about the Halloween Event, and look forward to fun events like this in the future. In the meantime, look for a little keepsake on the official site tomorrow.
So... I keep waiting and there is both no keepsake and no reverting towns. Making promises you cannot keep? Seems unlike Anet, but then again they've been promising guild improvements for a long time.

Edit: Wouldn't you know it that I'd put my foot in my mouth an hour before the update. I apologise for my doubting Anet. I can already hear the responce from Gaile: "Oh ye of little faith...". Yeah yeah, I'm an idiot for doubting Anet.

I can wait!!! I'm already dealing with "No candy bye-bye! *sob*"; not much luck explaining that the candies will go home tonight and not be around tomorrow. I need to be able to buy one for a pet or something; add one as a henchie to ToA/HotSprings/Beetle...heck I'd be happy to pay plat to hire! :P
