Weapons Merchants that sell "WEAPONS"
Athis Strider
Does anyone know if GW plans on having the Weapons Merchans sell weapons? I don't mean the silly little selection that they carry. I mean the kind of weapons we typically buy from eachother. Would this not be fair to the economy or the game? Could pricing be set so that it would give real players a better shot at selling? The reason I am bringing this up is because I spent the better part of a Saturday, just to buy a bow I have been looking for. (short, +15%>50, no player added mods) Last question, I've heard talk of a Auction House". Is this a better alternative.
I would love to hear your opinions.

They do. The weapon smith in Drok's sells 15>50 weapons for 5 plat + materials; think the bow is a longbow though. If you don't care about the skin though just do a search on bows and collectors and I think you'll find that there's a collector 15>50 shortbow that requires troll tusks.
An auction house would be exclusively player-driven so a 15>50 bow would be pricy there, but at least you'd have all the variety you could ask for.

I would love to see the weapons merchants sell weapon upgrades, and not the base weapons themselves - those should stay with the collectors.

Theres a 15>50 max damage Ascalon Bow req.9 (Shortbow stats) in the desert that costs 5 dessicated hydra claws. I know. I use it. (Also in the desert theres Ascalon bows of every other class)
Boom..your Saturday could have been saved in 5 minutes if you dont mind the default "Two sticks tied together" Flatbow skin.
If you say "I am not using that bow because it has an ugly skin" then I really cant say much except "Ok..then don't complain about how long it takes to get your good skin bow".
Collectors provide EVERY default (non-upgrade) mod setup and stats you'd ever need on any weapon for almost nothing (a few carapaces..or claws), but people still pay 5k or so for weapons that are the same or inferior to them - becuase of the skin. I say - use what you can and worry about how pretty your bow is when you have the time and money and wont complain about it.

Personally I use bows that I find and thats pretty much it but I wish GW and Anet would put a consignment shop in Ascalon city where you could put your items and set the price so people could just go there and browse for what they want make a bid or buy it outright without the scams and the trade spam in the chat it works fairly well on SWG although I know GW isn't SWG the marketplace is extremely difficult to deal with in GW and it makes me dump most of my stuff on merchants rather than deal with trying to sell it to other players

yea man the only place that sells max weps wit a perfect mod on em is droknars forge, and yea is 5k plus a lot of materials. i dont think the admins will make weaponsmiths sell weps or mods becuz then farming runs prices would go down, the pl that find perfect suyndering or fortitude mods will go bankrupt if u can buy them at a mercant. most of the fun in guiold wars is the suppl y and demand aspect, making ur game exp change based on wut other ppl accomplish
One and Two
You should be glad that you can even buy "max" weapons.
World of Warcraft: Rare orange weapon that drops 0.01% of time from uber boss (only one boss in entire game, requires skilled 40 man party). This weapon makes you basically the ownage. You can't craft that...not even close.

Flat bows shoot with the following stats.
Re-fire rate=2.0 seconds
Range=100'
flight time is 1.0 seconds.
A shortbow has
Re-fire rate=2.0 seconds
Range=60' '
flighttime is .65 seconds.
Now before everyones goes nuts let me clarify a few things. First, i dont care what the bow looks like. Second while these stats are apart by mere fractions of a second we can discuss and argue all day long about pros and cons.
My point is not complaining. My point is that sometimes it take a long time to purchase something specific. I used a bow as an example, but Jet Doc makes an intresting point. What about the upgrades? And many other things like it.
Should we incorporate a diffrent option other than the current sale system?
Should we have trade channels for separate classes like Rangers, Warriors, ect?
Ps. I might be wrong on the collector bow thing. It is possible I mistakenly thought it was a collectors shortbow. But I have yet to see the fire rate I get out of my short from collectors.

There is a post if you search wherer the frog says there might be wep mod and shield mod upgrade merchants in the future. Might be the expansion pack though. Will be cool if its done correctly though - high prices or crafting materials that will keep the economy going.
Cant wait!
