I sincerely doubt that the date is a set-in-stone arrival date for Guild Wars' expansion. The report to which you referred us was released in September 2005 (2 months ago) and as we all know, even games with announced release dates are sometimes delayed past those dates.
This is a pretty far-fetched grasp at something even farther out of our reach at the moment.
The Guild Wars team itself has told us that the expansion will be released in the first half of 2006. Now, factor in the date that you supplied us with, and the fact that game delays can vary from weeks to even months at a time, and you'll see why they've only disclosed a release date of first-half 2006.
Many things can happen in 7 months that can affect a game's release date. I wouldn't get my hopes up.
The report is interesting to read, though.

Remember, until you hear it from us, it's not official. Honestly.

The devs will have to work even harder now - if that's possible. Got to keep the investors happy after all

Remember that this report is based on information from ANet. So let's say it is their goal to release it around that time, and that they will try to release it around that time.
I think based on this tidbit, we don't have to expect the next chapter in January of February (which was allready unlikely ). This will stop the more then likely post at 1 Junaury from some random poster 'Is chapter 2 here yet? Its the first half of 2006!'.

I hope I can make it 7 months and they keep us interested with updates till then!

All it says is 1Q2006. In case you dont know your halves of the year, that's the first half. Gasp.

Still, who's counting. It will arrive when it arrives and not before - much like our trains.
As long as it's not cancelled because there is no driver, or because the rubber band broke.

If IR reports or financial projections were anything to judge release dates by, Chapter 1 would have shipped in September 2004..... Really, I'm better off asking my dog for a release date than reading those things.

And I like this tidbit, because we now can stop mindless spam on this board in the first months of the year. So in that perspective, I am counting .
Transparency for the win. stops questions. altough some questions are quite stubborn...Just had to post a link to the expertise table again. positive side: aparantly still new players flock to the game.

Not to mention release dates publishers want and release dates developers want are rarely the same. This creates a fairly big problem for gamers one way or the other.
Publishers can force games to get released before they're done. On the other hand, developers can push their release dates back so much that far less people really care when it actually comes out. :P

Has there been any hard news at all on what will be in it? Or all entirely speculation?

When the expansion comes out Or Ch.2 you can say, do we have to start all over is does it just enhance the game. I do not want to start my 4 charecters over. I am sure u all get that point

To be honest all I really care about is the title of the expansion pack, not it's release date. Why? Cause titles are much cooler than release dates that constantly change.
EternalTempest
They gave there investors a "guess". It will be done when it's done. I will be getting it as soon as it comes out
That being said it is intresting about the date as a target date but I would not hold my breath. I did find the GW sales figures link more instersting actually.
Note this is from South Korea point of view and update 2005-07-04 (3 months ago)

Event NCsoft announced this morning that its U.S. and Europe Guild Wars sales reached 650,000 copies, while domestic license sales were only 27,000. Analysis Exceptional overseas start. We believe NCsoft’s Guild Wars sales of 650,000 copies in U.S. and Europe is outstanding, given this was achieved in just two months. Assuming average shipping price of US$40/box, it appears that gross revenue on GW has already reached $26 mn. The initial overseas sales figure is stronger than what we anticipated, but we keep our 1.1 mn outlook for the year at this time. Poor domestic launch. As suspected, Guild Wars sales in Korea for the first month of launch was disappointing with just 27,000 licenses (business and personal combined). We estimate the gross sales for the product has been about W1.5 bn, and NCsoft has acknowledged GW Korea sales will fall materially short of its original W30 bn target for ’05. We intend on monitoring progress for formation of GW game league for cable channel broadcasting in 2H05 before making any further adjustments. Focus on the portfolio and overseas progress. We believe NCsoft’s stronger than expected overseas GW sales should compensate for disappointing domestic launch, which we believe has been reflected in the share price through its recent decline. As we suggested in our previous report, the outstanding launch of NCsoft’s GW sales abroad provides a strong platform for optimism on other titles (Auto Assault, City of Villains, Exteel, etc.) in its pipeline. Moreover, we also believe NCsoft is well on its way to generating 50% or more of its revenues from abroad (on consolidated basis) by for FY05. We highlight that the anticipated adoption of consolidated earnings release starting in 2H should improve the transparency of the firm’s strong traction overseas. We believe this should allow the market to focus on NCsoft’s broad portfolio of product pipeline and geographic markets. |

i read that also with interest.
considering they passed the 1 million mark weeks ago they may surpass the 1.1 they hope for.
lets hope Christmas brings a lot more in .

Considering how the summer update was at the very end of the summer, I'll just assume the first expansion will be at the very end of the first half of 2006, so I won't be dissapointed :|

As someone who has many years of experience dealing with developers and release dates (really clever people will be able to track who I am), I can tell you with 100% certainty that 'Chapter 2' will be released when Anet is satisfied with it, and not a day sooner. Why is that?
While a smaller, less successful developer might have a 'carved in stone' drop-dead date imposed on them by their publisher, Anet has earned, through excellent sales of GW, the right to call their shot on Chapter 2. I would be surprised if anyone at Anet would even be able to guess within 30 days when Chapter 2 will be on store shelves. Given the attention to detail they have demonstrated with the current chapter, I'm guessing they will be as exacting, if not more so, with Chapter 2.
Let's also keep in mind that the concept of multiple chapters for this game is absolutely key to the long-term success of the GW franchise. It's the tradeoff for not having a monthly fee, and they're going to want to make it as enticing as possible for us in order to not only keep as many of us playing as possible, but entice others to join our 1 million+ member community. With those stakes, there's simply no reason for us to believe anything we read/hear about a release date for Chapter 2 unless it comes directly from Gaile and Anet.
The really great news about all of this, IMHO, is that they've had a 'test run' for added content: Sorrows' Furnace. The reaction to SF has been undeniably positive, proving that Anet can indeed integrate major new content seamlessly into the game. I have little doubt that they will come up with something that will not only satisfy our CORPG lust, but will bring old friends back into the game and introduce us to many new friends.
Until then, see you in GvG and the HoH!

Guild Wars: Chapter 2
nimloth32
But i think a few months will make a lot of differences to anet if they don't release the new expansion coz as i can see, there are some players who started deciding to quit guild wars coz they are starting to get bored with it after ascending, go everywhere and PvP. If they delayed the release of expansion, they will lose fans coz there will be new MMORPG released soon (like D&D Online, Lord of the Ring Online).

they got your money and leaving for something else for awhile will not hurt them like canceling a monthly charge game.
what counts is how many people had enough fun with chapter 1 to buy chapter 2.

Ah, I love a good speculation thread. Remember that Gaile works for ANet and her words carry more weight around here than those of, say, Gamespot or other companies looking to get preorders. And, as others have said, the report is over 2 months old. Tons of stuff happens in 2 months...some of which might not actually even advance the game.
And, as Loviatar said, the game was not intended to be played the same way that MMORPGs are played. It really -isn't- one in the traditional sense of the...er...not word...um...the traditional sense of the abbreviation.
At any rate, enough speculating for one night. This thread will close now and will surely be reinvented within days.
