Ideas for Ranger Spiker
3lite
I've just now been getting into pvp and heard of a so called "spiker". So i attempted to make a ranger spiker on my own, with some experimenting and research, I came up with this so far:
Professions:R/Me
Skills:
Quickshot [E]
Kindle
Duel Shot
Trolls Urgent
Throw Dirt/Whirling Def.
Disrupting Shot
Favorable Winds
Rez Sig
Wpns:Sundering Storm Bow of Fort. and a Zealous Ascalon Bow of Fort
Any suggestions to improve this build? Thx

I would propably get Read the Wind instead of Kindle and go with 14 in Expertise and 15 Marksmanship.

If you want to deal major damage, you want to bring TF and Short Bow or the other bow w/ fast speed but can't remember name....horn bow? although some would disagree that this is a machine gun and not a spike, the principle is same : put out high damage arrows at short amount of time.
[If you don't use TF, I'd suggest bringing 2 skills to keep you from warriors, maybe throw dirt/LR or throw dirt/whirling or throw dirt/troll unguent.]
^disregard this portion, didn't read carefully enough^
I don't know the benefit of RtW over Kindle, because people tell me they do not stack and Kindle does a lot more damage at less points into its category. Granted, putting 8/9 points into wilderness takes away that 16/15 (i think or 15/14), but I dunno...8 more damage each shot. Your take. If you want to use conjure I guess that'd work except that'd take even more points. IMO kindle is solid by itself.
That being said, I myself am thinking of switching to RtW.

RtW is viable mainly because of the way it speeds up your arrows, making them impossible to dodge. kindle is somewhat less effective because it turns your arrows into fire damage. (also, i think you mentioned that RtW and Kindle don't stack...they don't, because they're both preparations )

To the OP, you may way want to switch out Distracting Shot for Savage Shot....but your build really depends on what context you want to run it in. Anways with Savage, you can run a quick combo of: Dual Shot->Quick Shot->Savage Shot.

Like previously mentioned, drop kindle and put in read the wind. You want to be using a flatbow with rtw and favorable, they go together oh so nicely. I'd also drop unguent for TF.

Aren't they talking about a Ranger with the Spike Trap skill and Pin Down and other similiar crippling skills?

Thx guys for the info...ill have to try rtw instead of kindle...

I'd ditch TF just because it take points to be viable and go /warrior with frenzy or flurry instead.

By the way my bad when I said they don't stack I must have meant RtW and Fav Wind. just clearing it up.

Another benefit of RtW, at least I'm fairly sure, is that it's armor ignoring damage. Kindle is fire, and therefore someone could resist against it, or use wards and whatnot. RtW isn't subject to that. I have heard sooo many people argue about Favorable Winds+RtW.. I have no idea who to believe. I'd love to see the mysterious Mister Ensign make a guest apprearance on one of the many threads that discusses this.

Read the Wind vs. Kindle (I am ignoring Favorable Winds for this comparison)
RTW
More attribute efficient (it's Marksmanship and you have that anyway)
Allows you to use a longer range bow so positioning is less of a issue
Makes arrows harder to dodge
Damage is added to your arrow strikes, not as a separate hit
Keeps your damage as physical damage
Kindle
Requires high Wilderness (3 attribute Ranger)
No arrow speed buff
Kindle hits are separate from your arrow strikes
Converts damage into fire

i have a little experience with ranger spiking. i take dual shot, kindle arrows and conjure flame. hit em with a dual shot, followed up with a punishing shot. i take fav winds if pos, then the arrows move so the enemies cant dodge. v useful if ur a team of rangers. main draw back is this wont work with a necro with order of pain/vamp, as the bow does not do physical dmg, instead i ditch conjure and kindle, and take ignite instead, as only the secondary dmg is fire.
on the RtW vs kindle issue, in pve i will favour kindle, but in gvg RtW has its advantages. if u have fire bow then u can still use conjure flame, which ads an extra 10 dmg. if ur in a team of 3+rangers then fav winds is worth considering, despite the fact it only adds 6dmg.
ps. is fav winds stackable with RtW?. that could be some good fun, no use of course, but good fun.

First off, if you spiking you want punishing and RtW is better because orders doesnt effect fire damage arrows, as well as other curse orientated skills(barbs, winnowing, ect)
marzabadjeh
for the real mass dmg u need melandru's arrows.. they cause bleeding and do +max 30 dmg when target creature is under an enchantment
