Confure <flame/ice/lightning> and an elemental upgrade to your weapon can be good. It is a 60 second enchantment with a 60 second recylce so if you are in an area where enchantments don't get stripped all the time can get up to +13 on your attacks.

Pick a couple of area effect spells that are not too expensive and don't cause exhaustion and are not too long to cast to avoid interrupts. I like to gather a group of monsters and use lava font and inferno.

Use a +12 energy in the offhand plus the gladiators armor to get energy up, mine is at 39. You can also keep the big +energy wand and artifact in an alt slot to swap to if needed. Or perhaps the 20/20 items to get faster casting/recycle of the Conjure.

Look around and you will find hammer knockdown builds as well.

Ah, misread it, sorry. So what are you hoping to do with the character, both melee and spells? Just spells? Give us an idea of where you want to go so we can offer some helpful advise.

You need defense then if you are going into melee. Look at your earth spells for things like Armor of Earth and Kinetic Armor and later Obsidian Flesh. Enchantments can get stripped though so also look at a tactics-based stance or two. So you might have something like:

- Galrath Slash (Sword Attack)
- Savage Slash (Sword Attack)
- Eruption (Earth)
- Crystal Wave (Earth)
- Armor of Earth (Earth)
- Bonnetti's Defense (Tactics - adrenaline)
- Disciplined Stance (Tactics - energy)

Keep your armor as high as possible for the area you are in and have sword/shield + sword/artifact + wand/artifact weapon options.

As a melee/caster hybrid you are spreading yourself out so perhaps won't be focused in any one thing.

The problem is that you are taking a low-armor character into the midst of melee so you need to have something to keep yourself alive. If you don't, monks are going to hate you as you will be taking all of their time and energy.

Look at the skills that you do have and use what's available. Look at the quests you have not completed for skill rewards as well. Perhaps that means that for now you have low sword skills with a low req sword and put more in fire for lava font + inferno, for example.

The wards are also nice and are not enchantments so don't get cancelled.

If you are truly wanting to focus on damage then take an element to 16, say Fire, plus energy storage plus something defensive like earth or tactics and skip the point blank warrior stuff.

Here's another example from the "elem basics" at the top of the page:

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...?t=2810&page=3

Used this in PvE and PvP, it seems to work alright.

E/W

12+1+3 Earth Magic
11 Hammer Mastery
6+1 Energy Storage

1: Earthshaker Bash (Elite)
2: Counter Blow
3: Crushing Blow
4: Earthquake
5: Aftershock
6: Ward against Melee
7: Armor of Earth
8: Crystal Wave / Res Signet

Use Armor of Earth to get high armor and run in swinging. Ward against Melee if you get into fights with Warriors. Earthquake tends to be more of a finisher because no one usually runs from you until they are at about 20% life(either from Deep Wound/Aftershock or light armored characters that get hit from 1 aftershock), and since your a tad slower than everyone(Armor of Earth) it will either kill the target or buy some time for either you or a teammate to close in. I prefer to use Crystal Wave over Res signet, because at 16 it does 106 damage that can't be reduced in anyway. But most of the time, I need to take signet with me at the party's request.

By the way...

Crystal Wave

Don't forget Glyph of Elemental power for that big +2 to the conjure. And Mark of Rodgart so you aren't totally pathetic.

You cant take an ele in with a melee weapon. lol Id just invest in some tactics and take a defensive shout or two like watch yourself and shields up. If you use this combined with defensive wards then you'll get on the monks good side.

Something like

Earth Attunement
Glyph of energy
obsidian flame
earthquake
aftershock
Ward against melee
Ward against foes
Watch youself

and fit in a res sig somewhere
