There's two bears nearby, so it's pretty easy.
Kill the bear and return before the timer runs out, and they hand you Hunter's Ale.
"Drink! Drink! Drink!" If you hang around, they'll even say your name. Pretty cool. oh wow, thanks... I'd often passed those goofy guys and tried talking to them, but couldn't figure out their purpose...

After you complete the quest they eventually sing:
"Pass the mug, and string your bows,
bears beware, where (your name) goes"
Before you complete the quest they sing the same song with the name "Benton" in place of your name - Benton is one of them.
(I spent a ridiculous amount of time in pre searing !!)

I kept thinking of the great time I had there during the world beta event (one year ago)... This used to be choke-full of necrid horses and other nasties, during the beta weekend I led like 3 groups to that spot, and finally we went to that little castle and beat Rotscale after going past the hordes of undead mobs.
Then I bought the game recently and went back there, it was almost empty, there were some stupid trees (Pinesouls? Whatever), and only a few packs of undead wandering about. YAWN !!!

The ashford abbey catacombs are really beautiful 1ce cleared from all the enemies. Same with green hill catacombs.
Greygon
I think this might be the one that was mentioned... In Pre... A little hole in the wall (s. of Fort Ranik if I remember correctly) Not very big but really pretty scenery...

The catacombs are all interconnected. It has three entrances: Ashford, Green Hills, and Wizard's Folly.
I've always wanted to go exploring the area where you go through the academy, but I didn't want to ruin anyone else's party...

I have and it's not really that much. I wouldn't fret too much about the mission, it's nearly impossible to fail. In fact I was able to explore the area before they ran into that first major group of grawls
Arcanis the Omnipotent
The Garden was the sole reason I stuck around in Pre sear with my last character for as long as I did.
The beauty of that place just intoxicated me.

Actually, when I first started playing (and therefore didnt know anything about Post since I had never gone there), I cleared the North almost daily (summer vacation). I was a Warrior, and I usually did it with another warrior or a ranger to pull, since monks were useless when you are too far out to lure back to the gate, and we ended up just tanking, dying, and running back to keep going forward. It took many hours to do it each time, but it was always fun when I had found a good partner.
The view up North in Pre really is beautiful, but not many will see it because of the Charr hordes, probably specifically the Searing Shrine and the 4 bosses there (a mesmer (Ghast), monk (Blaze), ranger (Red), and necro, if I remember correctly). If you ever get the chance, it is incredible, made even more so because of the time required to get there.

Pre-searing is fun to explore, since there are so many areas in it that aren't touched on by quests. If you head all the way south of Fort Ranik, past the orchard, you will eventually come to a large rock by the water surrounded by aloe seeds. Behind it is the only Oak Heart (that I know of) in pre outside of the northern Charr areas.
Also, if you head north in Ascalon City, you can actually see soldiers battling the Charr below you. You can find the command post of that Charr group in the northern area. There are several bosses and a number of Charr guards there.

I am working on a M/W lvl5 right now. It is my second character and of course pre-sear still. My first character is post-sear and enjoyable but one reason for the second character is to experience all the areas/monsters/bosses/drops/visuals etc possible. I appreciate this thread as it gives me some goals to look into the next time I go to game. Thanks.

There is a quiet little spot away from the crowd in Lion's Arch, you can also go down the beach there.
*hint* It's on the way to Competition Arenas *hint*.
If you know how to please don't post the trick to get there, it's funnier that way for people to try and find it by themselves !

I found a cave just west of sarderlac (in post).
it is under the bridge that took u from ashford to regent valley in pre. u do have to get through some grawl to get to it.
I also found piken square in pre, not a secret area but pretty cool.

the devourer cave form pre searing is cool in post searing once you clean it out
Bane of Mortality
In the Aurora Glade outpost if you walk towards the warp and hug the left wall you'll go down a little dip and walk past the warp. You can walk around outside then without any enemies there. The area is limited though, just like the Granite Citidel glitch before it was fixed. Also in Aurora Glade next to the boat like thing if you walk at the wall there is a certain spot that you can walk right up the wall.

I'll try to give better instructions.
Go to the SHining BLade Scout in the outpost. Standing next to her, turn and look to the south. TO the right of your screen you should see the path that leads to the portal. Between that path and the left wall of the outpost there is a large wooden house/boat thing. Walk to the left of this figure, between its right wall and the outpost's left wall. If done in the right spot you will walk right up the wall. YOu cant walk around once you get up there though. All you can do is come back down.

DeathDealer
Go out of Ice tooth cave, and look to the south south east for the super tall mountain. Kill all of the minos and shiverpeak horsie dudes and go up there....it is utter tranquility....it is the best arear and scenery I have seen yet. it is a super tall mountain and the view is magnificient
. If you cant find it, PM me here or ingame and I will take you there. ign to the left under the avatar >.<
Carinae
I agree that the northern shiverpeaks have some very pretty, serene vistas. It blows me away when I'm out there.
King's Spectre
Run the Great Northern Wall mission with anyone who can run 100% of the time. When you trigger the cut, run north through the gap that the charr come through and keep running north and east.
Eventually you'll get to an area that nobody thought to quite finish. There's a cathedral that's all black and the area in/around it is all black (no textures) too. If you look north you see the end of the world. Spooky for those of us who missed the early game testing.

Caged Fury
We were suppose to be doing the Ventari's Refuge quest "Blood and Smoke", when we decided go pass the druid and continue exploring the area.
Found an area with a Balthazar shrine and teaming with Jungle Trolls. Within this almost closed area was an out of way vine branch bridge that led to another closed off area with wind riders and a collector named "Agrippa Stonehands".
A nice, out of the way, quiet area to explore.

Ohhh! Speculation! Speculation! These areas may have/will play a role eventually. If they used to, then now they have been scrapped, Anet forgot to remove those areas, or meant to leave them around for amusement. Perhaps they're areas for secret rifts? At the stroke of midnight, perhaps a rift opens for mere seconds...nah...
I'ma check the area out with my Presearing Ele. I haven't ever found the bear quest, so...

Does anyone know where the place with candles is? I know this is vague, but I don't know what else to say about this spot.

Im surprised that no one has mentioned my place yet...
behind where I am standing is a dead end btw.
I am gunna go look for some more spots, and if I find any ill post them

Thrawn Foxheed
=P All shiverpeak areas look pretty similar to me, although there are quite a few nice scenery spots, most notably in Mineral Springs. Theres a small cliff where it looks like an avalanche had stopped halfway, and when you stand beneath it some frost wurms pop up
.
Also, i've been travelling Tyria unconvering the map while waiting for chapter two and i've taken some interesting screens =].
I'll edit them in later as imageshack seems to have frozen for me =\.
This is DeathDealer's spot i assume, yes the view there is immensely deep and beautiful.
These screens give but a glimpse, you really MUST be there yourself. It is truly breathtaking.

Wow.. This thread is so neat! It inspired me to go exploring myself! I don't have a screenshot, but if you go south westst of Temple of ages, there is a portal. Instead of going in the portal, I went east, near Kessex Peak. There I came upon some lvl 19 Forest Minotaurs, and the first one I killed dropped a blue Sundering Piercing Axe of Defense. It was precious, 10/5 sundering, and had +4 armor. This seems odd to me since I have never seen a blue item that's precious and had 2 mods on it. Also, I found a level 28 Warrior boss Forest Minotaur named Rage Maulhoof. Check it out sometime!
King's Spectre
Found another last night! I was solo sight-seeing and headed south-east from Ice Tooth Cave. Dodging dryders, I saw 4 green NCPs on the map so I investigated. At the top of a steep slope was a small dwarven village with two healers and two warriors standing guard. Shortly thereafter, every dryder in the world headed up the slope at us.
They came in waves of 3-4, sometimes 3 waves at once. The dwarven warriors quickly fell, but the healers would dart forward to heal me and dart back out of agro range.
After what seemed like forever, we defeated the dryders. The dwarves never said a word, but I could tell that they were grateful.

I noticed someone mentioned the Temple of Balthazar hidden waaaay back in The Falls. I found it today, and thought it was pretty amazing. I would have taken more, but about that time, a big 'ol mob of Jungle Trolls did me in.

Some places 'weird' :
In Ascalon (pre searing) : small groto estway from Balth statue, surronded by golems. The music changes when you enter it, yet nth happens. Seems to be the grotto in which the lone man gives a elementalist quest in post searing Ascalon.
In Ascalon (post searing) : Where has gone Barradin's place ? Some kind of path seems to be going to it from Rin, but the path is blocked by a wall
In Northern Shiverpeaks : There is a place between Beacon's Pearch and the Frost Gate, surronded by a wall. But no entrance ...
in Kryta : on the beach (north from Beetletun) you can see a wonderful castle. Yet no way to cross the water. (Lots of small islands with or without buildings are not reachable in Kryta)
Between Kryta and Maaguma : there is a way to go from ToA to Maguuma by foot, you have to fight your way through and area where you can find 4 bone dragons and 1 boss. It seems that this place, according to the name and what you can be told in ToA, was a kind of shelter for the former kritian royal family , but has now been invaded by hordes of undeads.
In Maguuma : the usual Bath's temple, known by too few people
(the one Brother Doug speaks about. Monsters here are up to lvl 18, you can go north too from Balth Temple)
Between Destiny's Gorge and Thirsty River, there is place surrounded by rocks, the only entrance seems to be a teleporter. Problem : the other teleporter (the one you could take to enter that place) is inactivated ...
In Dreadnought's Drift : northway from the Wurm you can capture Feast of Corruption from, there is a group of Ranger/Arcanist protecting a 'lost chest' you don't need a key to open. Found gold and blue items there.
In Tasca's Demise : there is a closed door though which you can see a kind of path. Problem : no lever, no barrel ...
Eastway from Marhan's Grotto is a giant ship at bay (of course no way to enter it) like the ones the dwarves use to travel on icy rivers.

i have a feeling that all these areas in "the wilds" area of the map will one day become significant in some way. i've noticed that my third character had absolutley no cities or towns unlocked in the "the wilds." too many people skip "the wilds" area (which is about 1/3 the map) by getting ran straight towards droks or the desert. maybe all these areas in the wilds will one day have something cool to encourage people not to skip this area in the game.
