Can you add upgrade components to rare weapons?
Dragou Du Porzan
Let's say I have a rare staff called the Ebon Staff of Warding. I also have a staff wrapping upgrade component that adds +4 armor. Can I add that component to the staff, or is the staff already considered upgraded because it comes with special powers?
Kimpeck
Well, try it, it will either let you do it or it won't.

I'm going to bite my tounge and be polite here, but your "answer" isn't really helpful at all. Short version: I've already sold the items and am afraid I inadvertantly ripped off the person I sold to (who bought under the assumption the upgrade can be used on the rare weapon). So if somebody could provide me with a slightly less flippant answer, my future trade partners and I will thank you for it.
Lasher Dragon
The answer is Yes, you can - However, it will "overwrite" whatever enchantment slot it takes up.
Lasher Dragon
Oh and BTW - doesn't the Warding add +4 armor? So if you used that wrapping, you would be wasting it. It already has that same wrapping.

Wait so you can only have one enchantment on a weapon? So if I find a sword that is of defense with +4 I cant add a zealous hilt to it?
What about dragon swords, can I add zealous to those?

Thank you Lasher. The item names I mentioned weren't the exact ones I sold. I believe the upgrade componet (a staff wrapping) was +4 armor vs. elemental attacks, and the staff itself had both an extra +1 energy and +11% dmg. to undead. So if my trade partner applied the upgrade to the staff, which of those two effects would she be overwritting? Or would it overwrite both?

I tried to add flaming hilt to purpe sword of trollslaying - no go, it asked if I wanted to replace current upgrade.

It increased poison duration and also gave +4 armor. Now I know the bow string applied the Poisoning bonus, and the bow grip applied the armor bonus. As I didn't have any poison skills at the time, I put an ebon bowstring on it. Now it is an Ebon Shortbow of Defense, which still gives +4 to armor, but instead of the poison duration thing, now the bow does Earth damage instead of Piercing damage.

scottvin: So the game prompted you to confirm if you really wanted to overwrite your weapon's current power? Is that correct?
Lasher Dragon
Yes it does prompt you. Also, I am not sure it would get rid of that +1 energy. Really though, +1 energy is pretty measly.

Great example is if you have an item with no upgrades. Lets say an axe. You can take an axe haft upgrade and add it to the weapon. Then you can take an Axe wrap and put that on the haft. Voila two upgrades. If you have a different wrap or haft and u want to add it it will overwrite the old one. Say old wrap is +20 to life. New wrap is +21 to life. The new stats will be +21 to life and the 20 will be gone.
