How does armor affect damage taken?
lord qwerty
How does my armor affect the amount of damage that i take? Like, how much damage does 1 armor reduce?
Thanks for any explanations, Briggzy

60 armor is base reference armor -- at this level, you take the normal amount of damage from any attack. Every 40 points below this armor level doubles damage taken. Every 40 points above 60 armor halves damage taken.
This is also why stacked damage reduction mods (-2 while in stance, -2 while enchanted, -3 while hexed or %-based, minor thru superior absorbtion runes, etc...) are so important when your toon is at maximum armor levels (100's range).

For the mathematically inclined,
damage taken = listed damage * 2^((base_armor-armor)/40)
where base_armor is the level of the attacker times 3 (or, for pvp, 60)
damage taken = listed damage * 2^((base_armor-armor)/40)

is it possible to get your armor so high that the higher level mnsters do 0 damage to you?
And i also heard that when you armor goes so high, your damage starts to decrease, is this true?
Thanks, Briggzy

Depends on what monsters you're talking about and what they're attacking you with. There's nothing that will raise your armor enough that a Bladed Aatxe will do 0 damage.
One of the easiest ways to reduce damage is from a piece of knights/ascalon armor and absorbtion runes, as well as damage reducing skills like Shielding hands. I did Defend North Kryta last night and there were lots of 0 damages foating around my screen.
Your armor level never affects your damage, they are completely independant.

Both builds sustain almost 200 AL in a fight. The first one, which I use, can definitely lay down more hurt with Mark of Pain and Flurry. I can also keep my squishies alive longer with Enfeebling Blood, because they WILL draw aggro. I have much higher hp without the use of superior runes (838 hp). The downside is I have a couple second without Dolyak Signet (never bothered me), and I only have my signet for healing.
The second is my brother's build, and he does use 2 superior runes. Obviously his healing capabilities are better. At least I don't use monk skills though.

The reason you don't see stances here are twofold. Stances won't protect you from elementalists, in most cases. Armor will. Another reason is simply that the skills I use for defense aren't counterable. Wild Blow and Warrior's Cunning won't do jack to these builds. It's pretty much a lot of 0s popping above your head, unless you're up against necros, with their dam shadow skills.
My brother's build is actually self sustaining enough that he can ignore it when empathy gets dropped on him. It's pretty funny.

How are you getting to armor 200? All I see is Dolyaks (34+) and Watch Yourself (20), and that is WAY short of 200.
I think you'd need to add some earth elementalist in there to get that high.
[EDIT] I see, Defy Pain adds another 20 AL. That is still quite a bit shy of 200 especially if the damage is not physical. Keeping with the warrior skills you could add a tactics stance for another +24 if your focus were pure armor level.

Gladiator Armor = 80+20
Watch Yourself = 20
Defy Pain = 20
Dolyak Signet = 40
Max Shield = 16
+5 Armor mod on weapon = 5
Total = 201 AL.
As for stances, they usually take a whole build dedicated to them to be effective. They do have recharges, you know. VS Elemental attacks, I lose 20 AL for 181. Boohoo. Hell of a lot better than a stance tank.
Actually the w/n build uses only 13 str to trade off for massive hp, so it's 197/177 AL.

OK, I wasn't adding in the shield and +armor mod, so that makes sense. Thanks!

unfortunately some damage ignores armor.
EternalTempest
Also depends on the armor, Ele armor is based off hit locations... it has to hit that armor spot. War armor is a global effect I think.
Red Locust

warriors with 200 armor and a lot of evasion, thats cute.

I think this discussion was for pve, and you should know there's not much that can go up against a necro in the first place.

W/x vs N/x... it's always a lose/lose situation. Necros are the anti warrior class, which is why I sub as one.

having a closer look at Gladiator's Armour I can see that the chest piece has no AL bonus, it's just 80. Kinda makes sense when you look at the visual which is basically a bra for men

How does this figure in overall armour level? as I heard that blows land on different locations, with the chest being the most struck?

That is so weird? You are of course correct, but I could have sworn when I last looked, the Gladiators Hauburk didn't have that +20 bonus?
