Many of the banner ads on this site make it nearly impossible to play Guild Wars [or any other game] without closing the window.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, refresh this page until you see that "Free iPod Nano" ad with the girl having a seizure, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, and look under your processes. Chances are it is eating up 60-80 of your cache.

Can something be done?

Slade, just went and checked it against the other flash ads as well, it is resource intense. Not sure exactly what could be done besides sending off some emails. We'll certainly check into it though, thanks for the heads up.

I would Higly Reccomend Kerio Personal Firewall for you then.

Blocks popup; banners; flash ad's.... yeah i know flash highly consumes bandwith. that will save your bandwith... I use to have to close gwonline.net and guildwarsguru.com but now they dont take up bandwith here want a screen shot?

Slade,

Running some tests here, are you using Firefox? Mine gets pegged out at 60-70 when using only the Firefox browser. With IE and Opera I'm only getting 30 (which is still high but nowhere near the 60-70). It seems that the problem is Firefox with flash, and it's a common problem for that browser. I know, a lot don't consider switching back to IE as an even remotely appealing suggestion, but that's what's happening.

Yes I too use the Firefox browser and I found if there is a flash ad playing on the forums it results in the game becoming chopping and unplayable, seems odd since I have a uber (Well almost) computer.

Clearly a Firefox bug, since I don't want to go back to IE (Ever ) just closing the window will have to do in the meantime.

Also noticed the new version of flash (8) don't work with some flash files at all in firefox. If it's possible to downgrade (find a version of 7 and somehow manually remove 8, I would do so). Regret upgrading flash myself.

People actually surf the web without an ad blocker?

Well some people dont study how computers work; like the eldery perhaps (expect my grandpa I made him a setup where he could rip his vynals then make a CD for on the road)
older parents that dont really deal with technical stuff with computers.
females lol ok a little vauge there but I hear too many horror stories about feamles and computers
theres a lot of people who dont use the internet past; just research and instant messaging.

Wow, okay how completely wrong. Sorry, but I have to voice this. The fastest growing population of gamers are 50+. And for those who really do know the internet, and appreciate the sites they visit, ads are how we keep this site alive. Ads are how we don't fork over hundreds of dollars out of our own pocket just to give everyone these message boards and this community. And there are plenty of females on this board, on this staff, who are more adept at using computers and their knowledge of computers then a lot of guys.

Three Cheers For INDE!!! What these young whipper-snappers tend to forget is that allot of us older users have been using computers since the 1970's. I myself bought my first in 1983....used other people's up to that point. Why use other people's? They were darn expensive then. Bought my first when Mrs Dood said she was pregnant with our first child...I thought I would never have the cash again now that there was another mouth too feed on the way. Silly Me...but it set a precedent in our house hold...that has lasted to this day. Now as I write this Mrs Dood is on Her computer...she is on everyday. When she gets stuck at doing something...our Daughter..not me...helps her with the computer problem.

Really if you like this site...then click an Advertisment now and again...while you are bored....will not kill you to do so...
