How do I properly extract this Superior Rune of Vigor?
st3ady
Hey there,
I realize this is probably a n00b question but I have gotten this far without a clear idea on how to properly extract runes. Sometimes I have tried and gotten nothing but wooden planks, and that sucks! I asked around and people said that you have a greater chance when America has favor, and you find out by going to the Temple of Ages. But there still is a chance you might get materials.
I found this beauty today, I have been planning on buying one but this is just great! I just hope I don't mess up the extraction.
So what should I use on this? Expert Salvage kit? should I buy a superior salvage kit?
Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Just Expert Salvage. If you do that you will get runes every time out of blue/purple/gold armor. You can't get runes out of white armor.

You use an Expert Salvage Kit to extract runes, anything less and you will get those "wooden planks". Congrats on the Superior Vigor.
Savio
Superior Salvage Kits are the same as Expert Salvage Kits, except Superiors have more uses. So yeah, an Expert Salvage will work just fine.

Found it (Update – Wednesday, June 15):

Improved expert salvage kits so that they always successfully salvage a rune from monster-dropped armor that contains a rune. There is still a chance of destroying a rune when using a salvage kit to try to retrieve it from your own armor. |

Thats weird..Cuase I to have gotten Crafting materials from a rune filled enemy armor (it was only a minor though)...and its been way after June, I only started playing a few weeks ago.
I suppose they may have nerfed their own fix?

Found it (Update – Wednesday, June 15): I've just never seen it myself, even though I salvaged runes for months before I realized minor runes still in armors sell for more at the merchant. |

it happens, i've lost a few major vigors and absorbs, as well as a few superior runes that are worth abit at the trader

If you expert salvage BEFORE identifying, I think it increases your chances, if not guarantess success. I have NEVER lost a rune when I salvaged first, and ided second.
I have lost some, but I don't ID anymore before salvaging. So not sure if it ws fixed, or depends on the order in which you do it.

Plus depending on where you picked up certain items it's not worth using an expert on certain items to get materials, like certain armors will always turn to tanned hide or iron ingots, and an expert kit will only give you the same amount or 1 extra to the pile.
:::End Transmission:::
Tactical-Dillusions
And you never get wood planks from armours.
It's always tanned hide, bolts of cloth, linen, silk, leather, fur, steel, iron or a rune.
Collars, vestments and robes are armours too.

Wish I would have read this earlier.Lost two superior Vigors after identifing and expert salvaging.
Instead of a Superior I got Major's, both times
This almost caused me to "give up the game"

Ummmm, well, it's happened before in games that I've had amazing luck and people hated me because of it, but.... I gotta say... I think when you lose runes you must have accidentally used regular salvage. I have never lost a rune, and I attribute this to never having a regular salvage kit, so there is no possible way I can accidentally regular salvage it.
Oh, and just because an armor is gold, it doesnt mean it is a superior rune. Armors will never salvage to a lower quality of rune once you identify them.

I'll run through the quick truths of runes and enemy armor salvaging:
-After one of the past updates, you will always get the rune through expert salvage. This is always the case, 100% of the time, whether the object is unIDed or not.
-The rune, if follows by the general trend of unidentified items, is predetermined before identifying.
-Identification has nothing to do with salvaging, or which rune you get. It simply (and surprisingly enough) identifies your rune.
Often, identifying before salvaging is a good thing. Sometimes, you'll end up with a 50g rune on a 460g gold armor, in which case selling the armor is higher profit.

1) I haven't bought a normal salvage kit since Yak's bend.
2) I HAVE LOST RUNES - and got crafting material instead.
And no I'm not thinking about some Before June time (before the update quoted) because I didn't even play this game in June - I got the game alittle over a month ago.
My thoughts is that they Nerfed their own update. It isn't uncommon or strange.
Lasareth
You still can get crafting materials from expert salvaging player armor... In all my time and all my salvages (more than 30, at least, since the update) I still have yet to unsucessfully remove a rune from an enemy armor with an expert salvage kit.

If you don't know how to salvage runes and you've already got a Sup Vigor, then you're REALLY lucky O_o
I played ~500 hours before I found my first Sup. Absorb, and I was farming for them on purpose

Player armor - Loss possible.
Enemy armor - Loss not possible.
Enemy armor - Loss not possible.
Sol_Vie
Farming for them? Sheesh I haven't found one yet... is there a certain spot or enemy that tends to drop them?
Xenrath
They should really change that possible loss for salvaging runes off your own armour. It sucks hugely losing them especially if they were expensive to buy!

just wanted to say that I used an expert salvage kit today while America had favor and I successfully got the Superior Rune of Vigor! thanks again!

I know that I used Superior salvage on the superior vigor armour BOTH times.I would NEVER be so dumb as to use a reg salvage kit on something that important.Like I said, it gave me a Major instead of Superior rune
unienaule
Not possible. Probably it was just a gold armor of vigor, and you assumed it was superior, when most of the time gold armors give major runes.
Penguins Will Fly
If it says its a superior rune then there is no possible way that it can give anything else besides materials, but even then if you expert salvaged it you should get the sup rune for sure,
darkMishkin
If you ID first it tells you exactly what rune it is.
If you Expert Salvage first it tells you what level of rune it is, and which profession line it comes from.
The only reason I can see to salvage first is if you've already unlocked every rune on your account, so you can give it to a guildy to ID for himself or something.
2nd: I've never lost a rune except from my own armour.

Major runes = purple
Major rune'd gold armors = gold
Therefore, salvaging a gold item with a major mod will yield a purple rune.

Purple armors can have minors (blue) or majors (purple).
Gold armors can have majors (purple) or superiors (gold).
That's how it's been.
