Gamepad support
Lunarhound
I know this has been brought up in many GW forums in the past, but it's something I'd like to see at some point, so I may as well ask it here. Who else would like to see gamepad support added in the future?
Bgnome
joytokey will let you use gamepads with guildwars
BlackArrow
I wouldn't use it but if others want it, it won't hurt me if it's supported. If you had a controller with a dozen buttons it might work, although you might still be hampered a bit because you can't access certain commands. I personally prefer the good old keyboard + mouse combo. I find using a controller very limiting in my control in games.
Lunarhound
I'd have to agree that it'd be a bit limited, but sometimes, I just like that console feel. I'd probably never use it for PvP, but for PvE, it'd be kind of fun. And, yes, I do have some idea of how I'd lay out the keys.
What's joytokey, by the way?

its a 3rd party program that lets you map keyboard keys/mouse functions to buttons on a directinput compatible controller. works great with gamepad adapters, hacked xbox controllers, etc.

What gamepad doesn't let you bind the buttons?

I really don't think I would ever use a gamepad for this game. The controls are so limited the only benefit I can see is the joystick but that really isn't much of an advantage for someone competent with a keyboard (i.e. all of us).
William of Orange
Although normally I'm partial to console systems and using controllers, for me using a gamepad for Guild Wars would just throw things off balance for me. It's nice being able to just stop and type some piece of conversation for chats between party members and such on the fly, rather than having to switch off a gamepad and typing.
Of course, I really should just put my foot in my mouth, cause I've never really used a gamepad for PC's before and have no idea on their limitations/capabilities...

LordFu
I recommend the Belkin Speed pad II gaming device as an excellent keyboard substitute. A joystick would have to have an amazing amount of buttons for all the GW hot-keys.

I'm going to second LordFu on the Belkin Speed Pad - I've been using one for Guild Wars since it came out and it does everything I want it to. All I need to do now is convince Arena.net to let me remap my mouse wheel, and control in Guild Wars will be exactly what I want it to be.

Good to hear about the N52 speed pad, I just brought mine to the dorms. I've only played CoD on it so I might have a slight learning curve but I want to try it out nevertheless.
Either of you have a great profile for Guild Wars you could host? Or do the hotkeys need to be changed in game to work?

I can't just hand you a profile - the one I use has some of the keys remapped in game - but here's the profile I've been using:
1: Alt
2: Skill 1
3: Skill 2
4: Skill 3
5: Skill 4
6: Control
7: Skill 5
8: Skill 6
9: Skill 7
10: Skill 8
11: Weapon Group 1
12: Weapon Group 2
13: Weapon Group 3
14: Weapon Group 4
15: Action
Wheelup: Next Target
Wheeldown: Previous Target
Wheelclick: Called Target
DPad Up: Move Forward
DPad Down: Move Backward
DPad Left: Strafe Left
DPad Right: Strafe Right
Trigger: Shiftstate (momentary)
Shift-1: Escape
Shift-2: Target Ally 1
Shift-3: Target Ally 2
Shift-4: Target Ally 3
Shift-5: Target Ally 4
Shift-6: Toggle Minimap
Shift-7: Target Ally 5
Shift-8: Target Ally 6
Shift-9: Target Ally 7
Shift-10: Target Ally 8
Shift-11: Toggle Backpack
Shift-12: Toggle Belt Pouch
Shift-13: Toggle Bag #1
Shift-14: Toggle Bag #2
Action is also mapped to my fourth (thumb) mousebutton. I would like to map that targeting wheel to my mousewheel, but currently that's not an option in game. Anyone know of a workaround in case anet never implements the ability to remap it easily?

I'm not sure guild wars would transfer very well over to a console type controller, there's just too many commands, but if someone can find a way to make it work I wouldn't complain. It might even be nice to just jump on teamspeak, back away from the keyboard, lean back in my chair and play.
Bgnome
would that profile work for monks as well, or just general characters?
i got a n52 recently and would like to set up a good profile as well..

I've played with that setup on a Monk and it works really well once you get used to using your shift states. Basically all of your skills are right under your fingers - hitting shift changes your skills into party selection buttons. You're compressing sixteen keys into eight that are always right under your fingers. It's really convenient.
The directional pad on your thumb really makes the n52 shine for Guild Wars. Movement is Guild Wars isn't all that sensitive like it would be in a FPS, so you can easily control character movement with your thumb. That frees up prime control real estate for skill and party selection, weapon swapping, and the like - you don't have to choose between movement and doing stuff.
The locations of the skill keys I think are pretty obvious and are going to be universal. I put control and alt under my pinky because I'm hitting them so often - control ended up where it is because it's the most pressed key and #6 is the most comfortable button to press. I happen to like targeting with a mousewheel, it's so intuitive and convenient - hell, I want to be able to map that to my main mousewheel, since I rarely use the zoom features. But how you handle things outside of the control key and skills is pretty flexible.

I'm having a problem with the diagonals on that speedpad - It seems that "Down/Left" is a discreet key, and I can't get it to map right. Are you moving in all 8 directions or just 4-way with your Nostromo?

Ì use the nostromo speedpad n52 and when i try to put the macro for calling a target, right ctrl +space, i wont save. I put in the commands then clock OK. When i open the macro again for looking if it still in there, it isnt.
Can someone tell me what im doing wrong or do i need to disable/enable something first?
