I am new to guild wars and this forum, so a few of the common <shorts> cofuse, for instance, what does *bump*, mean, or what does lol and rotfl and imo mean?

It's cool, everyone needs to start somewhere.

Bumping is the act of bringing a post back up to the top of a section.
This should not be done in excess however, because doing so could land
you in hot water.

Lol is AOL-speak for 'Laughing out Loud.' Rotfl is AOL-speak for 'Rolling on
the floor laughing,' and 'imo' is short for 'In my opinion.'

Hope that helps.

Thanks alot Rosette, one more thing, does a reply to somebody's message have the same affect as bumping?

unienaule, the answer to your questin is: because i saw a lot of people using it and I guessed it had something to do with funny, or comic, or something like that...

yeah, if you reply, its the same as bumping. Bumping however is usually a pointless post just to push it back up, whereas a reply actually adds something of interest/importance to the thread. (usually)

Here's useful link if you are unfamiliar with the many chat speak terms and such:
http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/chat.htm

I've been gaming online for about a year now, and I still see many that I don't know. It's just a whole new community with it's own type of communication. I think part of the reason people do this is to be able to type fast. You don't want to be pecking at the keyboard while bone dragons are eating your character!

Anyway, I hope it helps!
